I can't lie, I haven't read this book but it sounds terrible to take the most strong-willed, independent, out-spoken, confident feminie character, have her fall in love with a man who has lost his wife so that he can find a mother for them and turning her into this woman who seeks marriage bc she is now the last few of spinsters in her circle and ultimately become domesicated, docile, maternal person is wildly out of character and feels like the most disappointing storyline for a Bridgerton I can think of. Have no clue how Netflix will do this one, but I hope they change A LOT of stuff.
Agreed! The author tamed or brought this character into submission, and had her conform. Imagine the things this character could have done? How fun it could have been to write her adventures. Marriage and children aren't a path for many women, but it doesn't mean she cannot fall in love. I hope Netflix takes many liberties with Eloise. I admire the character's boldness and resonate with her desire for a more expansive life.
I've read the book and she remained her strong-willed, outspoken and confident self. She was neither domesticated nor docile although yes, the more she interacted with the twins, she developped a strong maternal affection with them. To Sir Phillip with love did Eloise's character justice in a lot of ways. Brings a lot of contrast to her desire of independance but yet wanting to have a love marriage.
I have read the book, and it is very much in keeping with her character. She leaves home by herself to meet Sir Philip, only to see if she likes him in person. She remains outspoken and independent and is the best person to help his children. And her relationship with Philip is very passionate. Loved this book!!!
Not every woman who gets married and has a family looses themselves. I know quite a few women who are married and can still run a tight ship, kick some ass and still be the most loving sweet and romantic women ever. Also this is keeping with her personilty. Sometimes feminist just don't want to see that a woman can be all with a husband and child(red).
This isn't my favorite book but it has my favorite scene with the 4 Bridgertons... Well... 3 of them beating up poor Phillipe will Colin was just chilling 😅😂😂
I highly recommend reading the book before making conclusions based off the little details you were allowed by the series, where the story line strays a little from the book’s. I read the first five books and I must say I was not looking forward to reading Eloise’s story simply due to the fact that Sir Philip was already married to Marina, I had no idea how that would’ve panned out, and I hoped it was another Sir Philip but alas, it turned out to be the very same one. However, this was one of my very best reads, of all the Bridgerton books. Sir Philip was a man plagued by darkness and Eloise was the light he so very much needed. I love this book with every fiber of my being. I went through so many emotions, and I shall definitely read it again and again. ***Marina though, seemed to have led such a sad life, right up to her death…I wish we could’ve gotten to know her just a little better, to understand her. She obviously needed love and it seemed no one offered her that, seeing that the only person who would’ve fought for her, died on a battlefield. She deserved so much better than the cards she got dealt with.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Even though wrought with sadness and painful moments there was comedy that I found quite humorous. Eloise never lost her independence, vitality nor confidence throughout plus she’s just as talkative as ever. Some moments will have you tearing up and the next it will make your heart flutter with warmth. If you don’t want a spoiler then don’t read beyond this point. . . . . . . The most funniest I found was when all four brothers showed up! hope they include this in the live series.
I think the Netflix series will change a few things. We recently saw a potential friendship between sir Philip and Colin. Maybe Eloise will instead meet him through her brother
Not every married woman loses their sense of independence and view of the world. She is still a strong-willed and “ she does not stop talking”. In this experience,She gained more knowledge about motherhood and values in life. In the book Eloise still remained true to herself altho they were ups and downs of the odd relationship they had at first but ultimately she found herself happy and contented at the end.
The Philip that's about halfway through the video is Sam Claflin from Me Before You, but they're showing so many different actors in that role in this video
In the book Marina was a distant cousin to Eloise, when she heard of marinas death she started to write to Phillip. He never told her he had twins with Marina, it is mentioned in the book that Marina was engaged to George Phillips brother. In the series Marina was a distant cousin to Penelope, she was pregnant to her lover George, after George’s death Phillip found out about the child so married her. He inherited the title that he would now leave to George’s child. Still confused? Not sure how they will write this one.
@@aussiemiss1442I’m assuming they are going to have Marina die somehow and then start their love story. I hope they don’t include Marinas suicide because idk if that fits her character in that series.
I have all the books and have read them all. Some are my favorites. I would write some differents situations. But I am completely satisfied with Julia Quinn's books.
I’ve read every single book and this sounds to be amazing. Not every romance is up front and at first glance but some are a slow progression and might come out of nowhere which was Eloise’s story. 🙋🏻♀️🥰can’t wait!
To Sir Philppe with love and When he was wicked are two of the best romantic novels I have read. Why? Because through these books Julia Quinn explored two issues that never see the light of day in most romance or historical novels. These include 1) the impact of a parental suicide on the children, and the impact of severe depression on both partners; 2) the impact of the death of a beloved husband on a young wife and the possibility of finding happiness after a perfect love and perfect marriage in a new relationship. In my opinion the producers of the Netflix series have ruined the true impact of the Bridgerton books in exploring and doing justice to issues that were taboo in the 1800’s. The unnecessary addition of a perfect society in England where all races live in Harmony and marry irrespective of race has not been good for this terrific series of books that explored important issues and whether or how true love can bloom even after the tragedies of suicide and mental illness and death of a spouse in a love match! I think race relations should have been explored better and I also feel that the perfect interracial society in England depicted in the Netflix series is a travesty that fails to show the actual restricted society where any transgression would have resulted in censure. For certain, the England of the times should have been depicted realistically. To do otherwise is to obfuscate the many ills of society in those days! I also don’t like the mess they made of the whole Marina story where she is expecting the children of a man while attending London society! This Marina is a strong character who I don’t think would ever have resorted to suicide and this the Eloise storyline would not have occurred as naturally as it did in the books! The Lady Whistlesdown character never baited the Queen - it simply could never have happened. And there was no Queen Charlotte as portrayed by Netflix. It is impossible that the Colin in the series would ever be able to forgive what Penelope did to Marina by telling the world she was pregnant just because she wants Colin for herself. Colin still seems to feel for Marina, so finding out that she outed Marian’s secret would have a horrible impact on Penelope. she is now just a nebulous figure they find their happy ending in this vapid season of Bridgerton simply because she wanted him herself! a Normal Colin to Britain America and Europe had not solved the race issue in the 1800’s! And social class was a horrible barrier in the England of the 1800’s! The Sharma sisters never existed and even if if they had, they would never have been welcomed into the London existed, they would never would never have been welcomed into the upper echelons of English society.
Everyone knows what happens in real life is the exact opposite of fantasy world Bridgerton era 😂 Netflix is never depicting real scenarios no matter how hard they try 😂 we are all living in a fantasy world via Netflix called movie magic
What I find a bit strange about the series is that it is presented to us as The Bridgerton family's closeness to each other. I do think it was a mistake not to replace the duke with another actor as it is too odd without the duke and Daphne joining the family gatherings. Is that is what is going to happen each book you'll get rid of one of the family you no longer need? I don't think that says close family. I think it says there is no good excuse not to be joining the family on occasion. They are portrayed as this incredibly close family yet one by one they dissapear. It's a shame we can't continue to enjoy that part of the series.
The story has a few parts that are not accurate , but I’m glad I heard this version because I will read the book for myself, but thanks for sharing your version.
17:15 it happens from time to time that you repeat a line a few times and 17:30 the volume also fluctuates a lot sometimes 😳 which is like a wake-up call when your voice is usually so calm and soothing otherwise 👍 video!
Can i just ask what is with the pronunciation of a lot of these words? Is this done via some auto speaking software? It gets rough to listen to. Plus the music gets to loud.
In the last scene of Bridgerton 3, Eloise meets a young woman in passing and they exchange looks and greetings that seem to be preparing the audience to have a same sex Eloise. After what happened to Benedict in Season 3 , I'm thinking tom boy Eloise may stay more interested in her own sex. It would allow her to be free to explore her independence rather than just becoming a dutiful housewife in that society.
I'm sorry in this I don't agree, I can't believe that she ended up with a man out of a cave, just because she felt alone, after all it's feminine power that she had, it's the scene of her first wedding night, philip did nothing but bring to mind marina, marina, marina and marina, he only compared eloise to marina, he only married her to have someone to have sex with and someone to raise his children with, THAT WAS NOT THE END THAT ELOIS DESERVED,, , she wanted someone eloquent, cultured, who loved her, this was a sad marriage that was only CONVENIENT FOR BOTH OF THEM. It is ridiculous that the author turned Elois into just another woman desperate for a marriage.
I have not read the books, but from what I have seen, I see Eloise as someone who may just become interested in men and relationships a bit later than most women. When she starts feeling lonely seeing all the couples around her, and this proposal dumps into her lap, she would be exactly the type to investigate it with an open mind. And what was supposed to be a 'practical', not very romantic arrangement, actually turned into love. Even a love who would allow her to be the type of person she was, and not squeeze her into the role of someone she was not.
@@HereIAm247 The problem is that in the book she was not even sure about getting married, she never came to the conclusion of marrying him on her own, Antony left her no choice after they went looking for her, and they found her with him without a chaperon, he never proposed to her in an organic way, he literally just ordered her, WE HAVE TO GET MARRIED, and she herself feels cornered, in the book she says that it was either marry him or be forever disgraced. She didn't love him, they didn't even love each other apart from a physical situation, he makes it very clear that he marries her because he needs her to take care of her children, and she marries him because he doesn't. has another option.
@@anggonro That was the original idea with the arrangement, yes. But the video makes it sound like their love grew 'against the odds', in spite of their circumstances? As it seems to be the case for most of the Bridgertons.
@@GREEKATION to be fair, I’ve not yet read their book but I hear sooo many reviews about it. I heard that he r@ped Marina once (in a dubious consent type of way) and that all he wanted was a mother for his adopted children. Eloise should be and have more than that. Please feel free to enlighten me on what I’m missing out on or getting wrong as these are just what I’ve heard.
@@ChiliCrisp88 I think you need to get it all in context Women were told to just lie there and let men have their pleasures, it was considered the correct thing to do and bad form to say no. This information was told women on their wedding day by their mothers as recently as in the nineteen sixties. This series was set in the early 1820s Letting him have his way is hardly rape in the context of the era. Things were different then Before queen Victoria’s time women who took part in sex were considered a bit forward. You were not a nice person if you ,, gasp ,,, shock ,,, horror ,, enjoyed it ! Even less of a nice person if you responded. Please don’t put the modern sensibility into a period drama situation. Keep in mind women did not wear any knickers at all in those times. They wore a light shift that was worn for weeks without laundering. The corset was worn over this pushing up the breasts. Bras were invented in the 1930 s I think In the 1880 s a split corset existed which supported the breasts a little and gave a better shape. Queen Victoria started wearing bloomers but the early ones had the legs but no crotch.
Sorry this Film...was off the wall confusing..Taking clips from Bridgerton and at least two other Period Pieces... Was...Seriously Terribly Confusing,, I've not read this book either BUT it sounds extradinary to consider Eloise...settling ? Plus, Louisa Thompsom was no relation to Louise Bridgerton...At All yest you said here they were cousins... Im thinking your getting your books confused?
This video only seeks to re-create with the help of other series what is narrated in the books. And yes, Marina in the books is a cousin of the Bridgertons, the series doesn't tell the story of the books in a faithful way :)
Not just confusing but who is the narrator? Is it AI or a non English speaking person - mixing up genders and mispronouncing words? Very strange clips.
Plus ms Thompson had only one child…there was no blood connection to either The Bridgestone or the Fetheringtons… Plus…Louisa knew very well there was a child…so saying she was suprised as Sir Phillip had not mentioned children…!!!!! I gave up at this point…I agree Sloopy editing … Sloopy Dialoge and too many mispronounced names and words
@@sundynightlive I agree - I have read all the books many times over, and of course watched both Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte many times over. I was utterly lost with all these flip flaps of scenes and hitherto unseen actors - I don't usually go searching through an entire chat thread to find out what the heck but here I am ... where the heck did half this footage come from ???!!!
Omg! Didn't think about it before you mentioned! That Netflix's Marina Thompson is THAT Marina from a book! And I suppose now they will kill her ! But I can't imagine how this quite reasonable woman will suffer from depression and will kill herself..... Maybe in a TV series they will make an accident 🤔
It makes sense for her to fall into depression and want to unalive herself, remember that the man whom she truly loved died in battle and she had no choice but to marry the brother.
@ZoneflixNews curious how Marinas story will play out on screen. The actress who plays Marina has spoken out saying she had "Two Psychotic Breaks From That Show" I am curious if they'll continue with the story as originally and unrelatedly written or avoid due to the actresses described experience. However, she 100% would need to be replaced as she does not want to return so maybe that would seperate the 2 situations if they were to continue the characters story as written. On another note I enjoyed this synopsis and really look forward to this story❤
Der Verrat von Penelope war zu tief … Sie hat zwar eloise gerettet aber der Verrat war schlimm Sie hat das mit Theo zerstört und sie hat eloise zum Gespött gemacht
Did you see at the end when he’s riding the horse by the cliff? The cliff falls off then the cut from the scene. Riding too close for me. I’d be making my own path far from the edge.!!!!!!
She remembers herself as a younger woman as being difficult. Sh and Phillip agree near the end of the book that they waited their whole lives for each other and were made for each other.
Marina is not actually in any of the books as a ' character ' but in Phillip's memories only. In book 5. I did really like To,Sir Phillip with love as a part of the Bridgeton Series, but my favourite is Francesca's story.
In the book Phillip wanted her for his children. She wanted to avoid the old maid status and ton.. I realized folks want a modernized hyper Indy today's woman. For her day_ she was that, in making her own choices. The tensions came from his hard exterior and the layers he hides under. Their love has time to unfold as it should with 2 such headstrong people. JQ is not my favorite writing voice_ her narratives can be long and dialogue short. But the writing of a series of books with character arcs isn't easy. I'd love to see Amanda quick or Garwood books to film, because as much as we love modern females _ we love books seeped in the historic restrictive society and how resourceful females get their HEA anyway _ we enjoyed this series of books and their spin off series. The least for me was the one where the hero spent most of the time Ill in bed. I liked the tension in this book and the difficult challenges based on deeper things than the superficial or immature tropes of most. I didn't see the real attraction in the season 2_ didn't feel the chemistry. He had much more passion with his mistress in previous scenes. Which was a shame because the book is good. Others loved it, so to each their own. There's a reason we love Austen stories_ and even if I'm.drawn to intelligent and Indy females _ I enjoy the era and historic authentication too. I suppose we shall all know soon, how this story will unfold. I'm sure good writers might do her justice. There's nothing wrong with giving her a taste of the crush and attractions before Phillip. And when she does love, it will be something deeper for her.
yea this might not be my cup of tea at all!! i loved the first two and I am excited for the plin one, would keep an eye out for how the series develops this into, but from this video alone I do not like it at all.
I have read the book - there’s a bunch of comments saying to read the book before judging it. I hated it. I feel like Eloise settled HARD - she complaints constantly about things she doesn’t like about Phillip but then just puts up with it or pushes it aside - and Phillip does not treat her right. Eloise deserved so much better, and I hope they change this for the better. I think the character of Eloise deserves someone who understands her, and Phillip does not understand or appreciate her. It’s the worst of all the stories.
No, Marina was "distant cousin of Lord Featheringtons". So Sir George, the biological father of the child she was expecting when she came to the Featheringtons, and hence his brother Sir Philip whom she married on Sir Georges' death, are not relations of either the Featheringtons or the Bridgertons.
@@Kerri6024 in the book Eloise started writing to Phillip after Marina died. She remembered Marina as a child. She was a distant cousin of her father. Not sure how they are re going to handle the difference. Although Marinas love for George could explain why sh was so sad.
I love the books but cannot watch the series simply because they have cast coloured people as aristocrats when everyone knows that the English aristocracy were all Caucasian. I know it is historical fiction but at least get the history bit right.
While I understand your reference to getting history right your prejudice is showing when you refer to brown skin people as colored people. I guess no one explained to you white is a color also.
Marina didn’t have Phillips children, it was his brother’s but he died and hence why Phillip married her to keep her honour, hence the disconnection relationship.
I was waiting to hear Eloise and Theo storyline but it seems like from what the books have that she married some Philip and I just don't like the fact that she is second wife and he already have children with his wife because all of the bridgeton have their wives and husbands that do not have children that have not been married I don't think that's fair to Eloise at all but I'm waiting for the season
She stays independent but she feels lonely, she decides to leave her house to go and meet him and by then she was 28 so I think it made sense on the books, because she was very immature and childish, a rebel without a purpose. When she meets him she grounds her in a good way and together they find happiness. The Netflix series made her a feminist, but on the books she is just difficult and rebellious haha
I can't stand the fact that the actress who plays Eloise has asymmetrical eyes. it's all I can concentrate on when she's on the screen. It drives me crazy.
