I’d love to hear your thoughts on choosing substrates for different plant types! I feel like since you’ve experimented a lot and have lots of experience & PLANTy of knowledge with utilizing sphag/Pon/Leca/etc., maybe an overall video of what you’d prefer to use for certain types of plants?

Still growing in LECA, some soil and some PON. I think certain plants do better in different sources. Big fan of LECA.

Yes to more leca/nutrient solution videos! I use the same nutrient solution regimen as you and I would love to know what you think about different types of plants in leca or what you do for each specific type of plant in leca. Thank you! I love these videos! ❤

My alocasias are all growing in pon with no drainage and they love it! No root rot at all! I did move them into water first before putting them into pon (and I do this with leca too) and I find it gives it a chance to grow water roots and shed those soil roots. They have all survived when I did it this way :))

Could you do an in depth video about how you water pon and not get root rot and how you get such HUGE plants in pon? Do you leave the reservoirs to go completely dry? Do you always water over top and through the pon? Have you ever encountered any root rot in pon and what do you think was the cause? Are you using wicks? I want to grow plants as beautiful as you do in pon!!! Sometimes I regret not doing leca, but I have too much $$ invested in pon and pots now lol

I've been keeping tropicals for over 30 yrs. 3 yrs ago I learned about LECA I started transferring my plants over and all new plants I've gotten in the last three yrs have gone into LECA or PON. And I prefer to buy or trade fresh cuttings to start my own plants into my preferred medium.

If the leca didn't drop in one of your videos, it just wouldn't be the same! Love the look on your face when that leca hits the floor. 😁 I now have all but two of my plants in leca. Oh, wait, that's not true. Most of my plants went into just straight nutrient solution in jars, and I slowly put them into leca after they developed water roots. Some of them are still in these jars, including my Alocasia Silver Dragon! But only 5 left to put in leca. Then I have 2 still in soil that I will be putting directly into leca (ZZ plants). But probably going to need to order yet more leca first! Also, Kevin, I like the informal videos best, but I enjoy your videos, period.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this video. I love the more laid-back, it’s almost like I’m standing in your kitchen! I learn something every time I watch your videos as far as leca goes my only plants that do well are my Hoyas and Syngosiums. Everything else I put back in soil, but I’m still learning.

So interesting! I have all of my alocasis in leca and enclosed systems with the nutrient solution 2/3 up the pot. I noticed that the yellowing around the edges is usually more to do with a lack of nutrients or light. I bumped my frydeck’s nutrient solution up to more than double concentration and the yellowing stopped + I started getting leaves the size of my torso despite the roots absolutely SWIMMING in the nutrient solution lol

If you are getting deformed leaves or no growth on your hoyas, you may want to check for flat mites. I'm just getting into LECA and a DIY pon. I would like to know what plants do better in which substrate. It would be a very interesting video.

Hi Kevin, I'm sorry if you've already answered this question but I am curious on how often you add more nutrient water or change it? Do you go base on a time frame or based on how low the water in the pot is? Also, when you you change or upgrade your net pot? Especially the ones with excessive root growth. And how do you change it at that state?

Do you have any suggestions as to how to start a plant in leca that is currently in soil? Ive tried moving a ppp cutting to leca, and every time, i end up with rot. I know it's me doing something wrong. Is there anything that helps with the transition?

Hi ! Do i need to mix water + nutrients and THEN putting it into bucket of water ? Or i can just take bucket of water, inject calmag there, mix it, then inject FlorMicro there etc etc ? Isnt that same thing if ? Or having small bowl of water , mixing it there then pour it into big bucket is so important ? Im kinda lost there. Thanks for answer ♥
