Great video thanks good info.. You may have discovered this by now, but you can get the keyboard on one screen by doing the following. Going to settings from main screen, select key board language, select American English and deselect Large buttons , then the size of the keyboard is about the same as a smart phone message key pad. Out of the box my factory setting also had the split keyboard. Have a great day.
Just got mine. Thank you!!!! Im going to get this installed in my Honda Metropolitan 2022 this coming week. I was debating in keeping this or exchanging it for the Garmin XT2. Obviously more features but with Best Buy Total Tech I got $30 off in total to $341 with 2 year warranty so just debating a bit. How has it been with you?
Great informative video, thanks for taking the time to make it. I've just bought one of these for a european trip to Austria in May. A quick question, will the unit accept a route made in basecamp and then follow it ?
You can change the keyboard....The mount goes sideways, it's super easy to mount it one handed and so on.....Great, cheap GPS that so far lasted around 25000 miles including probably half in rain
Thanks for your review I appreciate it. I purchased this model from Amazon UK for a bargain £165.00 it was a return item that someone sent back and so carries Amazons 1 year warranty and it looked brand new out of the box. Its fine for my requirements, mine came with an inline fuse too.
With this unit can you plan your ride on garmin express thru your iphone and then when the 396 connects with your phone it automatically downloads the route like the garmin XT does? Thanks
Great video and review…I have a battery tender hook up on my bike I plan on plugging it into like you suggest. I ordered the wires from Amazon to splice onto the Garmin wires…but I don’t see a link to the ‘how to’ video you alluded too. Do you have one that shows it done? Thanks!
If I have the phone calls and media audio set to the gps can I still use my helmet head set buttons to answer calls , change songs and volume control ?
Here's the weird things behind Garmin GPS it do not have USB power cable connection to Motorcycle USB port! The cable came with only for connection to battery directly. Another short one is for data transfer to PC. The second issue is the WIFI running find network doesn't work. I manually entered SSID and password to force it connected my router. I asked Garmin support if they're sale separately cable which connected to cradle but has USB at the end, the answer we don't. So, I resolved another problem with connection bought SAE connector from Amazon and connected it to that port. Because I have no clue how reach Battery on my harley it somewhere below seat.
There is a very good cell phone interface via Bluetooth that allows you to make and receive calls, assuming you have a Bluetooth com or headset. I connect mine to my Sena 10S.
You can plan a route using google maps and base camp. But be careful. This thing will take you in very weird places. Ive had mine tell me to rude down a road 100 yards and turn around go back to where you were and continue. Ive gad it tell me to go up peoples driveways and cut across their yard, get back on the road you were on. Some times it will have you take a side road that runs beside the main road. It will have you jump back and forth on the same side road. If you miss a check point it will try to recalculate and you will lose your route. If you tell it not to recalculate it will stop giving directions until you go back to the missed check point. The bluetooth works,,, sometimes.good luck with that.
