Craft with homemade "decoupage" technique to redecorate a cardboard box.
To apply this technique there are specific papers and glues on the market, but alternatively we will show how it can be done in a homemade way.
To carry out the decoupage technique in a homemade way we will need:
White glue mixed with water instead of glue.
Some napkins that will replace the "decoupage" papers.
The process to make homemade decoupage technique would be:
Clean the base surface, which in this case would be a cardboard box.
It is painted as a base with light and dark neutral colors.
Once the paint is dry, start the decoupage technique as a test on the separators that will be placed inside the box.
Separate the layers of paper from the napkin, using only the one we are going to paste.
Wet it with a brush with the mixture of glue and water from the center to the ends. Carefully removing wrinkles and bubbles.
At this point the paper is completely malleable, if the wrinkles are not removed, it can be lifted and glued again carefully.
Start with the box.
More technical drawings will be used with these lines.
It is glued following the same process as above, taking care that it is as straight as possible.
The same process for the inside, this one has to be done by cutting out pieces.
Next, the piece of napkin with the artistic drawing is to be integrated into the lid of the box.
The napkin is cut out with a brush dipped in water.
Then it is glued using the same process from the center to the ends and in these the brush strokes are made so that the paper is integrated or blurred in the box.
A couple more ornaments.
Let it dry and sand the imperfections very smoothly with very fine sandpaper.
Cut the interior divisions.
Spray varnish to make it last longer.
And ready... The result is pretty decent, obviously with the paper and glue specific decoupage would have been a little easier and probably the result would have been a little better. But we have tried and learned the technique for less than 10% of the value of the specific decoupage material, now if we like it we can buy these materials. And we have also recycled and decorated a box, which is now not only decorative but also more functional.
