Night Stalker Netflix has brought the story of Richard Ramirez to its streaming service. "Night Stalker" is a true-crime docuseries, that tells the story of Ramirez also known as the “Night Stalker” who was convicted of terrible acts in 1989. Prior to his capture, Ramirez was dubbed the "Night Stalker" by the news media. Ramirez, never expressed any remorse for his crimes. I'm not sure if he got it from there, but Richard Ramirez loved satanism and read the satanic bible many times. He even met the author and read a lot of his books. The things he says sound like La Vey. And meeting him apparently ment a lot to him (I read the book by Phillip Carlo and he wrote about their meeting)

He went through hell as a kid. Not making excuses for him cause a lot of us had bad childhoods and we don't rape and kill. His dad used to tie him to a cross in a grave yard and his crazy cousin blew his wife's face off in front of him when he was 13. He said he gave up on love and happiness a long time ago. I believe that happened as a child. It doesn't surprise me that he turned out the way he did.

Yeah his dad was crazy too,in the book it said when the dad would lose his temper he would bang his head with something or against a wall till it bled.

@@classicarah Yeah that is terrible.He had it bad from the start. Anyone with a fragile mind would end up homicidal, if not that then suicidal for sure. Some of these serial killers parents should have sat right next to them in prison or on their laps sitting on the electric chair.

As a child he had several head injuries, concussions. That’s also a huge factor on his madness.

@@bevmillard4486 I agree 100%. I don't think these killers get any kind of brain scan from a doctor when they are first caught. They only have so called "experts" talk to them and evaluate them. That's all fine and dandy but they should also be checked for brain injury or abnormalities. Way wait until they're dead to study their brains.

That’s what I like about this as well. These four men are a great example of what a well balanced individual should be. You don’t have to tear someone down , insult them , talk over them to be superior . There is no need to be superior . It’s very refreshing to hear intelligent and respectful conversation especially during these times .

I was living in the San Fernando Valley when he was prowling and killing people. It was a nightmare. I remember that summer was so hot and everyone was locking their windows because he would enter through them. The only thing I absolutely love about his story, is he tried to carjack a woman in a Latino neighborhood and that was the wrong thing to do. The men chased after him and started beating him. This group of Mexican Americans held him until the police arrived. LA RAZA indeed.

Ditto. I remember that summer windows closed and front doors. We had kept everything unlocked and open. I had my bed under my window and I would cry at night because I thought he was going to get me. I was 8 or 9 years old and remember that yeR so vividly.

The case was so crazy the woman detective on the case quit her job, changed her name, and moved to a different state. I did not realize it was Ramirez at first. In good conscience I could not be unbiased.

I think interviewers and therapist need to stop telling these monsters that they are in some type of elite gang. Ask them, are you a social failure? Because they are! Ask them why they kill others because of their own failings at functioning in a normal society... Ask them, what do you think of people seeing you as a weak man/person? Because they are! Ask them, do you think you were beaten by your own mind and were too weak to fight it? Because they are! Maybe if society asks these kinds of question it won't seem as appealing.

Yet, by watching this video, reading books about serial killers, you help put him and people like him in the spotlight. When he was finally arrested, charged, and convicted, the media did something brilliant- they put pictures of his victims on the front page. They used pictures [outdoor only] of the crime scenes or of the victims when discussing this case on the evening news. I believe that is why Ramirez is a rather obscure serial killer. His face, his name didn't get the publicity that Gacy, BTK, Bundy, and Dahmer received.

Think about it, if you're a muscian and someone groups you with Michael Jackson or Elvis, it's going to make you feel proud. Same if you're a painter - Monet, Van Gogh. Moreover, feeding their ego is an interrogation/interview tactic. Bundy *never admitted to what he did*, he would never speak about the cases, until FBI proposed to him "because he was so intelligent" to explain how he'd have committed the crimes. It's not therapists and interrogators that is the problem. It's the media who glorify, sensationalize, and promote their infamy.

You don't have to tell me anything about the media. I studied journalism for 3 years and am fully aware of how they conduct, concoct and sensationalise stories (If it bleeds, it leads)! By your interpretation of the handling of these monsters, we should be seeing changes (yet, were not)! So, what's the harm in trying a different tact?! Media, interrogators and psychiatrists feed their egos (it doesn't work)! Think outside of the box... What if a different approach saved 1 life; perhaps a child's life! Surely it's worth a go! The Reid technique for interrogation was founded in the 1950s. Society has completely changed since. What worked then may not work now.

Has anyone looked at the results of his head injuries that he suffered at a small child? How much of his condition or behavior was impacted by physical injury? He was not only tortured and abused as a child, but he was knocked unconscious as a 2 year old when furniture fell on him. What a lost sad individual. Puzzling for sure.

Remotes had 2 sons. Both ended up in the system as teens. I knew one. At 16 he was not a bad kid, nothing like his father. He was there because he had been in fights at school, likely because who his father was. He lived with an aunt( his mother was in jail I believe), once his aunt’s neighbors realized who he was, she was forced to move him out, landing him in the foster care system. This was at the time Remirez wanted “ custody “ , the ability to make decisions for his sons. I’m sure that chilled and confused his son. His son came up to me during that time and asked me “ do you know who my father is “. He was looking for my reaction, fear? disgust? acceptance? My response was a simple “ you are not him”. I hope this young man was able to overcome the legacy his father left him with. He deserved so much better.

I see your point, Miriam, but respectfully disagree. I think RR would have completely toyed with a reporter who went in with a lighter touch. RR didn’t trust anyone and would have only ever revealed the barest minimum of himself regardless (just enough to maintain his image) - he saw others ONLY as a means to fulfill his own needs, so it would have just played to his ego to go into the interview with a softer approach. I honestly can’t think of any modern day journalists who would have gotten much truth out of RR; Bill Kurtis maybe, who used to do extensive work for A&E. Someone like Oprah who tries to engage & be empathetic but firm would have been stonewalled by RR; he may have given someone like her a longer rant and more of his ridiculous pontifications, but I doubt those would have revealed anything he hadn’t already said. RR would have immensely enjoyed messing with a more kindly reporter sitting across the table - for example, one who played sympathetically to him would’ve end up getting manipulated big time and RR would have been gleeful about it. This reporter was wise imho to make it clear he wasn’t buying into any of RR’s bullsh*t. We know RR opened up to Detectives Salerno & Carrillo (particularly Carrillo) and I think that’s because he knew they didn’t buy his facade. Carrillo has said he quickly learned that in some ways RR was pretty simple; sex & violence were melded into one entity in his mind and that drove his crimes whether he murdered or murdered & raped. For all of RR’s ramblings, that’s what drove him. In a sense he was not complicated at all but I do find his psyche fascinating; I hate the man & the unfathomable pain he caused, but his psyche is interesting in terms of great videos like this one. I actually think the reporter in this scenario (Mike Watkiss?) was pretty ballsy & effective and I respect him for that. He was in a small closed room with RR and from every clip I have seen, RR was not shackled. Sure, there were guards right there, but we all know RR could pounce like a cat and had those monstrously huge hands that could inflict damage in a heartbeat. RR had nothing to lose by that point and I would have been terrified. RR was clearly trying to stare down Watkiss and I think it threw him when he couldn’t. Watkiss held his own and I don’t think RR expected that. As someone else has mentioned, that was also the style of journalism at the time; the era of Hard Copy & Inside Edition. Again, I mean no disrespect to you whatsoever. Just a different opinion.

Nah, the psychopath stare does NOT look like a “connection” to women speaking as a woman. There is a certain “look” or stare men give when they want you. Then there’s this other look I’ve seen maybe 3 times in my life where I wanted to leave immediately. It’s almost like their eyes go black, they wont stop looking at you. And it’s this look of “attraction” to.....something, I don’t even know. Something they want to do. Not sex. Something else. Plotting. Malevolent. In a way you can’t even explain. Staring isn’t the problem. It’s the intention. The psychopath stare actually makes me feel sad.

I know the evil look you're talking about - I think it means they hate you for being female and want to destroy you because they're sexually attracted to you and think it's your fault and you're doing it on purpose to control them (that's my theory, anyway). But I think the point is that if someone is staring, they don't understand how social cues work or they don't care, and therefore they're abnormal and possibly dangerous. If someone doesn't know/doesn't care they're making you uncomfortable, what else might they do without regard for your wellbeing? Psychopath stares are creepy though, because there is usually malice behind it. My sleep disorder specialist (who's also a psychiatrist) said that when he was younger he had to do a stint working with sociopathic criminals, and he often felt actually afraid for his safety because they looked like they were about to leap over his desk and throttle him.

I have seen that look too but by a woman. I worked closely with her so after my conversations with her I felt something was not right with this woman. If I were to confront her her eyes go black and I felt she was actually staring into my soul...I changed shifts and never had to work with her again. She enjoyed playing head games too, she also had that little grin...weird lady.

It's the cold, nothing in there stare that creeps me tf out! The 'deadness' in the eyes..I cannot hold eye contact with those people. Recently my sister had a mental snap, beforehand I had that same creept feeling that there was a "nothingness" in her eyes, almost a sign of what was to come.

I have watched many of your videos in the evenings with my dog sleeping quietly beside me. When Ramirez' voice was broadcast, the dog came to her feet, hackles up and barking at the TV. This happened several times in the course of the video. I sent the dog out, brought her back in, replayed and moved around in the video and tested the response to his voice. Same reaction each time. The dog knows that Ramirez is dangerous even without context or understanding. I am keeping the dog because clearly she knows more than I do.

As hardcore as Ramirez was, I find it hilarious that his killing spree came to an end because he got caught trying to jack a car in the wrong neighborhood. He tried to escape but the entire block was beating his ass so badly, that when cops finally showed up, he begged to be arrested like a sissy. Come to think of it, had those cops not showed up, Ramirez would have died a torturous death more gruesome than his victims

I agree that thinking him as a sex symbol is a bit much. In my own opinion I thought he was good looking (- the teeth though). Had he been a normal man (specially living in CA/LA) he had the capability of being an actor or model. I'm learning so much from this channel, the other day a woman was murdered in Puerto Rico and her ExPartner posted a Facebook message in which he used distancing terms and I said to my husband, He did it and I explained all the points you guys cover here and how guilty people distance themselves from the actual crime. Days later it was announced by the press he was the killer. I just love this channel, sometimes it's a lot to digest but it's extremely helpful.

Would have been great to get their takes on that seemingly genuine response. To me it seemed to be his only genuine response, that instant is where you see the damage he has in him, that likely fueled the damage he did to all the victims.. I've seen a few interviews where he is just performing the entire time, that instant where he says "I never cared for anyone, or what happens to me, I never did really.." was the most vulnerable by far he ever reacted, it would have been helpful to get their analysis on it.. for they covered everything else..

I ask this because if you read the book “The night stalker” by Philip Carlo, he said that when the sister went to Richard after he was found guilt, he broke down and started crying. @@michaelmarlonbestbae6078 Psychopaths DO HAVE emotions, the thing is that they're unable to feel empathy or remorse, they cannot really emotionally connect with others, are very narcissistic and cold headed, they experience fear in very low levels and get easily bored, so that's why some of them kill for the thrills. Some of them are master manipulators and are capable of successfully faking love, empathy, sadness, etc. to get what they want, they can cry on cue, for example. Despite everything I just wrote, yes, they experience some emotions but not in the way most people do.

He is probably a sociopath meaning he can feel things such as anger and frustration (which his character is known for) but he lacks a conscience and empathy for other people.

Any halting or stilted speech have nothing to do with his language skills. What government bull, lol. From 12- 16 he beat me, screamed at me, trashed my room, stole money from me, rubbed beer bottles on my face and tried to get me to do drugs. The worst was he tried to kill me. His excuse was, and I quote, "mom and dad made me a nerd." He beat my mother too. My father did nothing to help as he was afraid of him. Things came to a head when he threatened to bomb our house. My mother's bf at the time threw him onto the ground and sat on him until cops arrived. My mother still makes excuses for him. "He was an angry teenager ." Ummm, no, for most of it he was an ADULT. she would say, "his father wasn't around." ..... we have the same father, and im not a psychopath. He never apologized. He doesn't attempt to have any relationship with me. He calls his 4yo AUTISTIC son names. He hasn't changed, despite my mothers claims otherwise. Oh and a few years ago, he was mad at my father. So he went on a rampage and took an ax to my father's chickens. He killed half, left some half alive. I will say: he is a very good talker. He is a very good story teller and enjoys it when people are all silent and taking in his every word. Hes the kind of person you want approval from. Its creepy. Never trust a charming person.

I had the opportunity to be in the courtroom when Mr. Halpin was doing his rebuttal argument toward the end of the Ramirez trial. I was in the courtroom when they brought Ramirez in with handcuffs and leg irons on-before they brought the jury in. I will always remember the sound of the heavy chains and how they clanged when he walked. He had those stupid sunglasses on and after he sat down, he turned around, pulled the glasses down on his nose and look directly at me over the top. The hair on the back of my neck stood up-fortunately, I was sitting there with my co-workers so I felt like there were friendly people with me at the time. For years afterwards my memory of his voice was like the sound you hear when you put the needle down on the LP and pull the record around with your finger. Kind of blurry and creepy and maybe even lower than it really is. All that to say, he was evil and it was evident.

In regards to how choppy his speech sounds in the start, people that have met him while he was in prison said that he was quite socially awkward when talking as he had never really grown up in a good environment and had been essentially shut off from other people for so long

Great dive on him. He was one of the scariest looking creatures in the world. Those eyes. Definitely one of the worst. I was a teen in LA we were all terrified by him. He’s definitely in the collective consciousness. “Duper’s delight.” YES “Self-amused broken toy.” Good one. “Too weird to know he doesn’t need to act weird.” *shudder* Thanks for the upload.

Where have y'all been all my life? Or maybe the better question is, 'have I been under a rock?' I ran across you four while bored out of my mind trying to pack up an entire library of books for a coming move. I began watched one video and was hooked. Admittedly I do have an addictive personality, but that's a topic for another day. I realized I was into my 5th video before I could pause the TV and go on-line to subscribe. The Ramirez episode was by far the most compelling analysis of a psychopath I have ever seen. Amazing! You have certainly set the bar high for any other binge-worthy videos. Can't wait to get where I'm going so I can sensibly justify buying more books. All four of you are on my wish list.

I watched a doc about him and had intense nightmares about him for a long time after. His face, demeanor, and of course the horrible acts he committed just seared into my subconscious. Normally true crime doesn't bother me at all and I can sleep. But dang. Something about this guy just speaks to evil.

I was 8-9 yrs old living in Whittier when he was terrifying L.A. A real life boogie man to us kids. It’s only now at age 45 that I’m able to watch documentaries and shows about him. He’s what nightmares are made of. 😣
