I have to say I am impressed. I’ve seen videos from other content-creators trying to do the same thing with this deck. All of them failed miserably. And I thought it only made sense… after all this decks is created for BO3 and for a specific meta. Now that I saw your video, I think it shows the difference between some very good players in BO1 and THE player (or at least one of the best players) in BO1. And I mean it. Congrats CGB. You have over 164k subscribers here and it’s well-deserved. Great content by a great player.
Casting invoke despair on that Sheoldred will NOT kill you in that spot. The text on Invoke is actually in 2 steps, and sacrificing the creature is the first step. So, when that first step resolves, sheoldred will NOT be on the field to resolve the lines that say 'Then, repeat this process for an enchantment and planeswalker.'
If that's the case, wouldn't death triggers trigger in between the two segments of text? I know that wouldn't happen, so it leads me to believe Sheoldred would see the draws. Also note, you can separately select a creature and an aura attached to it when despair makes you sac--the creature leaving should put that enchantment in the graveyard, but it doesn't because the sacs are simultaneous.
@@jordantiburcio4541 The sacrifices are not simultaneous. ‘Target player sacrifices a creature. If they can’t, they lost two life and you draw a card. Then, repeat this process for an enchantment and a planeswalker.’ The first process has to be completed for the second and third process to begin. If the sacrifices were simultaneous it would be an instant deal 6 draw 3 at once, this text clearly indicates drawing only takes effect if the first condition (a valid creature/enchantment/planeswalker) fails.
@@jordantiburcio4541 Death triggers go on the stack but they don't resolve until after despair has fully resolved. In regards to being able to choose an aura on a creature that was saccd, I'm pretty sure that's because the state-based check doesn't occur until after despair finishes resolving, meaning the aura isn't put into the graveyard until afterwards. If the sacs were simultaneous you'd pick all three to sac immediately, instead of going one by one. Also what Graham said here highlights why it isn't simultaneous
At 7:26 Invoke Despair *could not* get both, so the Abrade was the right call. Invoke lets you sac a creature first, so they could've sacced the Reflection first in order to keep their Windgrace.
I was lucky enough to bump into you in Vegas. It was so nice to meet with you in person! Thanks for the Shark Token. It'll go straight into my UW control deck :)
Thanks for these videos. I haven't played since 2010-2011, really liking the dominera united set and curious how it will go from here on. You're very cool. Cheers
I really want to see you play a deck with Venusian diplomacy and alpha of the Oracle. I’ve had some pretty crazy momements taking unlimited extra turns with time walk and casting time twister and ancestral recall to reload my hand
Not a judge, but if the first line of text says the opponent sacrifices a creature, if NOT, then they lose 2 life and you draw. Then to repeat for enchantments and planeswalkers, in that order. So no, he wouldn't have drawn whilst Sheoldred was on the battlefield, unless the opponent flashed in another creature with their 1 swamp and sacrificed that instead. Which is currently impossible in standard. So he was fine to have used invoke despair and was just tweaking.
Never, because even if the trigger went on the stack, the opponent would be dead before it resolved. But the Shelly would be dead first of all so the trigger wouldn't go on the stack anyway.
The deck I wanted to build if I had the cards is very similar, take out the cut down, duress, abrades, dont have a lilly and trim some of the 4of's, except for the invokes... I personally run 3 flame blesses bolt, soul transfer, 2 distasteful stroke, and burn down the house. Very controlling, and more abilities to hit plainswalkers and exile things that you don’t want to come back. Nice list though, I'd approved of it.
Let me know how you liked my more controlling changes, Unfortunately I don't have all the lands, enough corpse appraiser, or invokes and no sheldreds. In there place, I've been running face breakers and atsushis. Can't run my decks the way I wanted to... 😔
@@legend258471b no I'm sorry, I'm behind the time's on technology, and don't know how. Otherwise I'd try to make my own videos. Hopefully you should be able to easily follow the post.
@@legend258471b the best I can do rn for you 3 each Flame bleeded bolt Make disappear Fatal grasp Bloodtype harvester Fable of the mirror breaker Corpse appraiser Soul transfer Sheldred 2 each Disdainful stroke bank busters Burn down the house 4 Incoke disappear Hopefully this helps where I failed And use his mana
Last game you could win even with an empty hand....after you killed sheoldred with one harvester you could just copy harvester or appraiser 4 times and attack with 6 creatures with 3 power each....
Hey men, like Ur Videos . I just found by accident a new combo, thats even better then the world championship stuff. Can I tell you about it? And can you mention my name pls. 😄
Ok I tell, climb to Mystic with 3-4 mana . Build Ur deck around New Benalia/Greasefang/Surehacker.... around are p.prototype/Hotshot/patchwork/Extraction Sp. for Ur enemy its 😮💨🤕 Time
In that last game I don't appreciate your cowardice :P While you should have realised you had lethal anyway, which was good, I a) am about 99% sure the Sheoldred won't be alive to draw (since they always sacrifice it before even choosing which enchantment to sacrifice if both are on the field), but more importantly, b) am disappointed you didn't try it so you could learn and teach us
@@olafthemoose9413 what type of magic do you play, and just curious why do you watch these videos? I'm pretty new to playing and have really only explored standard.
cgb please please stop with the mid-video breaks to shout out a patron or your own stuff. I used to watch til the end each time but now i spometiems just shut it off when i see that. . cant you do this stuff at the beginning of the video like usual??
Appreciate the content and the grind, but have a small gripe. CGB tries a little too hard to seem cool sometimes, recycling one-liners like "Die hard, how about die harder!". It's pushed a little hard recently, and the tone is a bit snide. Doesn't hurt anyone at the end of the day but personally think the video's atmosphere would improve significantly if it was slightly toned back. Find it interesting thinking if anyone else has this feeling but still appreciates the content and consistent work. And if you're reading this CGB, take it into consideration, the videos that have more of a laid back and conversational atmosphere compared to performative definitely retain my attention and viewership longer. All the best
Because it's not. The deckbuilding cost of putting that many taplands in the manabase makes things go the way they should. They did the right thing in the Meathook banning, because it's justly the Go Wide Aggro decks that prey upon this and other 3 color midrange ones
@@RafaelAAMerlo I agree that the Meathook ban was a good move but you cannot tell me any card with a 4 color requirement was ever meant to be played in decks with more than 2 colors unless it's a late game option. This thing is literally being casted on curve in 5 color decks in a limited format. Seeing a 3 color deck not only run this thing but run 4 copies of it because it's so consistently easy to cast should raise some red flags.
Neck bearded mouth breathing game, just people copy pasting Sherlred decks bc they lack creativity. This game is zero skill contrary to common belief...
This is not a Magic World Championship deck. There hasn't been a Magic World Championship in some time now. It's an MTG Arena Championship. A very important distinction. Arena is NOT Magic the Gathering. It's MTG Arena. I've played arena players with actual cards before. And most of them suck. They have neat ideas, but fail miserably when confronted with the task of having to do everything themselves without the aid of a computer doing it for them, and can barely make it through a game without goofing up the rules and timing, let alone figure out how the stack works. Arena is great for playtesting and getting a quick fix at odd hours or when getting together is not possible due to circumstances like conflicting schedules or pandemic, things like that. But it's NEVER going to be magic. It's just the Arena. Magic is a random game. Not something decided by computer algorithms that are input by idiots. People like you that are great at both are a true rarity. We haven't had a real Magic Champion in years.
