I always see products advertised as anti aging with hyaluronic acid as the star ingredient in Western beauty and I am like NO THIS IS JUST A HUMECTANT STOP IT 😄 Also, what I would do when using a hyaluronic acid product is putting it on before hopping into the shower so that I am in a very humid environment, and follow up with a cream !

Thank you for creating this video! Out goes my Hada Labo Premium lotion. It has 5 types of Hyaluronic Acid as the main ingredient. My U-Zone has been just really dry lately and shaving on dry skin is all bad. I had been using it immediately after washing my face on a wet face. Also, would you happen to have any suggestions for a face moisturizer for combination skin for the winter that doesn't contain fatty alcohols?
@KellyDriscoll
@KellyDriscoll 5 лет назад
Oh no! You should be able to use it again if/when the weather becomes humid again! I use HA in spring and summer with no problems but have to put it away for winter too! Moisturizers without fatty alcohols are hard to find but often you can substitute a sleeping pack for your moisturizer and they often don't contain the fatty alcohols. Try Innisfree Green Tea Sleeping Pack.

Hi Kelly :) You are making wonderful videos. They are so clear and helpful for a noob-medium level like me when it comes to skin care. I have a question in regards to restoring my skin barrier: in the video you made about recommended products that worked for you, you mention CeraVe Moisturizing Cream that has ceramides and hyaluronic acid. How will that hyaluronic acid work in a case of a moisturizer? Since it is the last step in the skin-care routine. I live in a medium-humidity climate (that my face feels it more on the dry side). Is there any moisturizer full of goodies that you think I could try instead? (that has no HA) Thank you for making these informative youtube content.
@KellyDriscoll
@KellyDriscoll 5 лет назад
Hey, thank you so much! As far as cerave goes, hyaluronic acid is just one of many ingredients blended into the formula and not the star ingredient. The issue with HA drying skin out comes when it's making up a high amount of the product and in cerave that's just not the case. You can check out illiyoon ceramide ato concentrate cream as a HA-free alternative though.

Such an informative video! Everytime i visit my dermatologist, they will always tell me that my skin is super dehydrated and sensitive so i am trying to include hyaluronic acid into my skin care routine but also at the same time the weather here can be quite dry at times. Just wondering what kind of products has fatty acids in them? or what kind of ingredient should i be looking for? Because i don't think i've come across any products of mine so far which specifically mentions "fatty acids" in the ingredients list
@KellyDriscoll
@KellyDriscoll 5 лет назад
There are a ton of ingredients that fall under the "fatty acid" name, some include shea butter, cocoa butter, avocado oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, hempseed oil, rosehip oil, evening primrose oil, and coconut oil. Often on ingredients lists you'll see stearic acid, caprylic acid or fatty alcohols like cetyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol etc. As you can see there are a lot to look out for. If you don't already use the site cosdna to break down ingredient lists, I'd suggest checking out their database of cosmetic ingredients to get a clearer picture of products you use or are considering purchasing.

I live in Denver- pretty dry. Let’s see if I understand?! HA isn’t going to put a lot of hydration into my skin because the dry climate I’m in doesn’t give the HA the outside moisture it needs to do its job. Is that even close to right? The first hyaluronic acid product I tried was a serum, and it dried out my skin, probably because it was pulling the moisture out of my skin like you mentioned. I even tried applying water to the skin beforehand, but nope, it was still dry despite it being summer where I live. It's been around 2 years now since then and I really want to try the cerave moisturizing cream but I'm scared to because it has HA in it and I'm afraid it may have the opposite effect it's supposed to.

I'd love to see a video about vitamin C, I am really confused with all of those forms: this one in dark glass, this one in fridge, and that is actually oil, that one should be yellowish, but that is transparent and it's OK as well... Come on, it's too much :) Which one is good for my skin type? How can I recognize that this product is too old and already inactive?
@KellyDriscoll
@KellyDriscoll 5 лет назад
Oh gosh it's definitely a complicated/confusing situation! I can tell you the best piece of advice when it comes to telling if a product is old or inactive is if it's changed color, scent or texture at all since opening, that's a good indication that it's become less effective. Generally all vitamin C (ascorbic acid) should be kept away from direct sunlight or intense heat and that's usually why many find the fridge a good place to keep it but it may not be necessary during colder months or with more "stabilized" versions (like klairs vit c). I just discovered the powdered Neogen vitamin C and it virtually takes care of every issue you listed!

@KellyDriscoll

Sodium hyaluronic is the salt form of hyaluronic acid and it does act the same way. As long as it is just one of many ingredients in the toner (not the star ingredient) you should be fine if you are in a dry climate. Hyaluronic acid or sodium hyaluronic toners will always benefit from the use of moisturizers that contain lipids to help seal the HA to your skin.
