I know all about Gary. Grew up right next door to it in Hammond. Hammond was a wonderful place to grow up in decades ago, but it has changed an awful lot as is the case with many cities.
It would be helpful if you would occasionally mention what street(s) you're crossing. I grew up in Gary but can't get a sense of location on this video.
I was just there 2 weeks ago. I'm from 3rd and McKinley (Ambridge, Horace Mann area). Y'all was definitely going the wrong way on 5th. Although it always makes me sad visiting, but I'll always have mad love for my city!
Like most cities that are in disarray it comes down to the people running the city not managing the tax revenues in a wise way, not prioritizing the important issues, being creative bring in a new industry too replace the declining one. Now with all that being said. It won't come easy a huge challenge
I'm going here for CDL training and all I'm hearing is bad stuff. But I can't imagine a major trucking company would keep inviting people to a dangerous area. Seems bad for business.
Gary Indiana has a population of around 69,000 in the 2020 census down from 80,000 in 2010,it peaked at 178,000 in 1960 according to Wikipedia. The good news is that it still has a nice beach where Indiana Dunes National Park is.East St. Louis Illinois is probably worse though, they don't have a beach!
U.S.Steel basically started the town of Gary and was its biggest employer, a thriving town. Since the 70's Corporate America starting buying cheaper poor quality steel from China and since then more and more people were laid off. Now at least 30-40% of houses in Gary Indiana are abandoned. The story of America; the disappearance of the Middle class in American, only the upper class and the poor will remain, if Corporate America board rooms do not re open their manufacturing in the U.S.. Board rooms don't care, profits are their only concern.. Nice snowy ride Jose and Katie, Safe and happy travels, ! 👍
The cheap steel was coming from Japan not China. The Japanese government was even subsidizing their steel companies and they flooded the USA steel market.
You may have just been here on a good day be happy...I've been assaulted, carjacked, robbed, heard tons of shots fired, saw alot of things both day&night... mostly night...&when nice out though....try a part 2then for REALISM...OR BE SAFE LIKE I AM NOW THAT I HAVE FINALLY BEEN ABLE TO MOVE ELSEWHERE 💯✌️😎
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS There are Responsible,Hard working people who hold their mud and handle their business Daily that live in Camden, NJ,Gary Indiana and other welfare hellholes and show love to their families who depend on them by walking in that snow. They just keep to themselves.U R correctumundo.Ive seen Real Men like that in my Life.
Not even all of the graffiti is from people from Gary, people from the whole southern Lake Michigan area come to Gary just to look at the abandoned buildings and do graffiti
They don’t car jack in Gary they would just steal your car. But when you said hardworking that’s a fact people live good in Gary to. My family and plenty of friends and family are successful there too you didn’t go to casinos and so much more
I’m from Gary Indiana you didn’t go to the areas that have nice house and apartments and also you need to go to miller area near beaches and also far west side has very nice homes. Popeyes closed because they were not clean . We have good food restaurants so Popeye’s won’t last there anyway. You mentioned Sharks that’s good chicken should have stopped by. I live in suburbs of Atlanta and our Popeyes closed. White castles is fire
@@kevinxanity4113 it's kind of like answering why new jersey smells the way it does. jersey is a landfill of a state and gary is a landfill of a town. both places have a similar odor that permeates. i wouldn't drink the water or eat any vegetables grown from the land of either place.
@@kevinxanity4113 when the blast furnaces in the steel mills were producing lots of steel before 25,000 to 30,000 works were laid-off, or fired. Gary, Ind always had a stinch! I don't live there anymore, but it's roughly 6,000 US Steel works at the steel mills in Gary, and I visit once a year if I can, but I haven't smelled the familiar stinch in Gary in years.
Blacks do better integrated into white communities than in all black areas. Dont put your people down the economical system of USA doesn’t fit blacks well

Thats hard to know, and if there was a way to know.. interesting results. In naples you wont even believe, its drug filled. We sat down and calculated that on our street in naples (lived there 20 years and knew everyones ins and outs) at least 65% of households were having someone with an addiction issue of some sort.
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS For some reason I'm Actually not that surprised.I believe that the drug use is a symbol of an even bigger Problem in our current society.
Gary is creepy bad. The worst parts of it are worse than the worst hoods in Chicago and that’s a stellar achievement. There are no good parts, btw. It’s so bad that it’s crud is spoiling surrounding communities like Lake Station and Merrillville.
I was born and raised in Gary and moved in 2008. Not to knock my former city, but this is in no way a suburb! 🤔 Gary was an okay city growing up, but I find it strange the city never has money for fixing things, but yet politicians or city officials are always getting charges with money related crimes. 🤷 They need some good financial help and people who can really build the city up. It's enough people with skills that can bring life to the city. 🙋
I honestly think they should just shut the whole city down. Sadly for the residents of Gary a lot would be misplaced and have no where to go. So probably not a good idea. Indiana needs to invest more in jobs. It's one of the WORST states in the country.
