Not sure if anyone said it already but the little clear plastic piece with the small white piece of paper slides into the bottom of the radio and allows you to label the radio. That way you can easily see which radio you're using if you have multiple programming.

I need some help choosing a long-range 'walkie talkie'. I have some far-flung international locations in mind for an adventure for myself and a mate, places such as the Sahara Desert, the Atacama Desert in South America, jungles of Asia, and so on and so forth, you get the point, Bear Grylls shit... Money is no object and I only need two units. I have zero experience with radio comms other than the CB radio my dad set up for me back in 1996 when I was 12 years old. I just want to pretty much be able to buy the pair of radio handsets, charge them up and get chatting to my mate in the event we are separated in a precarious situation. I don't want an overly complex unit that requires a good knowledge of programming the channels, just a high wattage unit that's simple to operate - Any pointers???

Hi. The small clear plastic window and tab are so you can assign an ID to your radio case. Remove the battery, and where the battery latch clip indexes to the radio, there is a small recess in the radio case that will receive the clear window. Offer it in with the rounded edge first.

Saludos.

Hey Garry, I've heard that for Australian frequencies you need to reprogram the radio, Is this true on can you just input a frequency in between the CB UHF spectrum?
@GarryPurcell
@GarryPurcell 4 года назад
You simply enter the Radio Frequencies (Talk Channels) for Two Way Radio's that are allocated by the ACMA (Australian Communications Media Authority)
@Zyxak
@Zyxak 4 года назад
These radios are dual band: VHF 130-176 MHz and UHF 400-520 MHz. You can program a specific frequency on the radio or up to 128 channels via the radio or PC software. Also, in addition to "Channel mode" and Frequency mode", there is "Name mode" (only selectable via PC software) which displays the channel's alphanumeric id (up to 7 characters) instead of the frequency.

Garry Purcell yeah, the reason mainly is because back in 2011-2015 baofeng wasn’t a trademarked and copyright name in America, so other companies made a bunch of the radio marked as “baofengs” this is also why Baofeng changed their name to Pofung in 2014, another company copyrighted the name Baofeng and legally it wasn’t allowed to be used. I have never had a problem with my UV9R radio to date. The hardest part you'll encounter, is setting up the radio, to the channel frequencies that are legally permitted. There are heaps of different versions on Ebay, Some state 5W other state 18W(Don't know the legal limit?). How do you understand the `Real` Watt out put of them? And how long the battery do last? Great Video,will order one for the bush! Thanks
@GarryPurcell
@GarryPurcell 4 года назад
All you can do is hope they state the correct Watt in the manual. Mine is the 10w version, it came from Banggood, I have a link in the video description. I'm not sure of output power W in Australia, even after reading the government posting. QUOTE: www.acma.gov.au/search/node?keys=uhf+power Citizen band radio stations class licence … Licence 2015 Radiocommunications Act 1992 Power output Your equipment cannot exceed the maximum … HF - 26.965 MHz to 27.405 MHz (inclusive) UHF - 476.4125 to 477.4125 MHz (inclusive) You can only use telemetry and telecommand on UHF channels 22 and 23. You cannot speak on these channels. … With regards battery life, that will depend on usage. Think of a mobile phone, if you don't use it, the battery lasts a day or so easily, but if you talk a lot, you will need to charge it daily.

@kanibis420 4 года назад
There is a way to test the wattage and the Battery . For the battery all you need is a Multimeter , they are cheap . The wattage can be tested by another meter , i forget what its called , but HamRadioConcepts has one on his channel . I dont think they cost much , maybe $20 bucks

Hi Garry, Thanks for making this video. I'm nearly there with the programming. However, I've been trying to program in the Australian channels to the radio and have run into some issues. I seem to have been able to programme channel 1 to 476.4250 and while still in frequency mode, the radio channels will scroll up using the correct increments ie, the next channel when scrolling upwards will show 476.4500. I have been trying to save into memory the first 10 channels but it does not seem to be working. AND, when I go back to channel mode, channel 1 will show 476.4250 but when I scroll up from there, the next channel frequency it shows for channel 2 is NOT 476.4500. I think it is something basic I am doing wrong or have omitted to do something before programming the channels. Another chap on youtube said to "reset all" before programming the channels...? Also, does one have to put in the numbers for all (80) the channels for Australia or will the radio "autofill" the other channels based on maybe the step frequency you set in the settings? Would really appreciate your help here. Thanks in advance!

@@GarryPurcell Thanks for the reply Garry - but you didn't seem to answer/respond to any of the questions/problems I was experiencing to load the frequencies into the radio..? Having watched some other videos to try and solve this problem, I now think that BEFORE entering a new channel frequency and saving it to a specific channel number on the radio, you HAVE TO DELETE any current frequency that a specific channel is associated with BEFORE you can enter a new frequency for that specific channel. I will be trying that soon...
@GarryPurcell
@GarryPurcell 3 года назад
@@big5astra I simply overwrite any channel with the new frequency, and save it. Are you sure you are saving the new channel entered, and not simply changing the channel manually?
@big5astra
@big5astra 3 года назад
@@GarryPurcell Hi Garry, yes definitely saving the channel once I have entered all the numbers by selecting menu option 27, selecting that and then entering a channel number to save to and hitting menu button again to action the save. I hear an audio confirmation of it being saved but when I go back to channel mode, the old frequency is still residing in that location. Since my previous comment to you, I did a quick trial and first deleted the channel where I want to save the new frequency, then entered and saved the new frequency and channel number and...... that process seems to work. So I think I'll be OK by going about it this way. (which is what another youtuber did as well)
@blacksoldierfly888
@blacksoldierfly888 11 месяцев назад
Yes, I found this works too. First have to delete any previous stored channel and then save your new channel. So get into frequency mode first by turning off the unit then holding down the menu key and turning on at the same time. Once in frequency mode, press menu key and type in 28 to get to del-ch, then press menu again and type in channel number you wish to delete then press menu key again. a voice will say 'confirm' then press exit to confirm. Then press menu key then type 27 to get to mem-ch. press the menu key then type in the new channel number you wish to store and then press menu key and the unit will say 'receiving memory' then press exit and check the screen to see that they have been saved. @@big5astra
