The plastic will melt, for ironing I use metal only quilting pins. They are going flat, long, non melting and thinner.

Yes you are right about how the pins can melt with an iron going over them for a long time and i have had the heads break off, they are a little loneer though and quilters like to use them

There are glass head pins available too. The iron does not melt them either.

I notice she carefully flips the fabric over before ironing the folds pinned with the flat head pins. That way they do not melt.

The more expensive flat pins do not or barely melt. The cheap ones melt very quickly. The more expensive ones are also very thin, you can find them at quilting items, sewing over them is no problem and the cheap ones are much thicker and my advice don't sew over it with your sewing machine. The disadvantage of the more expensive pins is that they bend more easily.

I HATE those flat heat pins. They're so cheap. The head comes off on them all the time, and they can melt. The round head pins. can melt as well. You aren't supposed to iron over ANY pins anyway. If you spend the extra money for GLASS heads - on the round head pins, they won't melt...but you still aren't supposed to iron over them. So what is the point of demonstrating that? No point except content for a video.
