SSJR Goku-Black Berristan, Arthur Dayne and Jamie are the top 3 swordsman hands down. The shows really didn’t show just how good selmy and Jamie were. Selmy in this and never mentioned he single handily rescued the mad king alone and when Jamie at the pike rebellion and the battle of ox cross where he singlehanded killed 6 karstarks trying to kill rob stark.even Glover admits you cannot doubt Lannister’s courage or skill
SSJR Goku-Black even Jaime admits that, I think Robert beats Jaime and meets the tier however he wasn’t as skilled and certainly no swordsman just blessed by the gods with strength.
@@Divinemakyr Ser Jaime and Ser Arthur were most famous for fighting against Kingswood Brotherhood and different generations of Lord Starks and their battle companions. Neither of them has really anything on Ser Barristan the Bold charging through the lines of Golden fucking Company, one of the most disciplined fighting forces in the known world, reaching their commander Maelys Blackfyre (a man so monstrous he could punch a destrier to death and rip a man's head off) and killing him in single combat. He pretty much single handedly ended the War of Ninpenny Kings and extinguished House Blackfyre, at least in male line.
I'm reminded of the legends surrounding Miyamoto Musashi, who (they say) like Ser Barriston learned the 'art' of butchering men at the ripe age of 10, was named a coward occasionally for his unorthodox methods against an elitist upperclass that had grown complacent with their sport-like expectations of "true" swordplay--as if killing was done with points from a scoreboard instead of points from a weapon--yet could throw down with the best of them when dueling in perfectly fair circumstances, not to mention inequal odds... finally dying of old age, in a profession where the sight of a graying swordsman was nearly a contradiction in terms. I just hope that like Musashi, maybe Selmy will have left a book, or some pupils behind to carry on through tradition the good stuff he figured out across those 50+ attempts by men trying their level best to kill him.
Rosario Manorang Manik not wipe the floor, but he would be able to beat Jaime, even in his old age. If he was about 20 years younger, then he probably would wipe the floor with Jaime
Armor doesn't say anything actually, since you are less agile than without and thus have a slight disadvantage, especially if you have the age difference. Barristan won because Krazz was cocky.
Actually, plate armor distributes its weight very well so you're still pretty fast and the benefits far outweigh the negatives. You can't cut through plate. You gotta find the gaps or in this case he can just aim for his head but still you know where he's aiming.
Nick den Toom Watch this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qzTwBQniLSc.html Medieval plate armor was made to be nonrestrictive for the exact reason you think that armor would slow a knight: they have to be as agile with armor as those with out.
Like Sandor clegane explain tp ARya, He has an armor and a big fuking sword. Only untrained or lack of training warriors wll think their armor will slow down. Armors will be fashioned accdrngly to its wearer , Selmy must be wearing a medium plate armor as for his body and for hs age. He who live for the sword all his life, body and age would be dull, its his instinct and execution would never. His armor would cover the weakness of his body and age
I'd sell-off all my fermented crab reserves for some Selmy vs Dayne Kingsguard sparring footage. It wouldn't have to be big footage. It could be little like me.
R S L I would sell mine as well to only see a Battle of Ice from the books which has been replaced with boring Battle of the Bastards after killing off two contenders : Stannis and Roose.
One of the few, well-written fight scenes which depict the reality of a slashing sword against armor. In most medi-fantasy books, Khrazz's sword would have somehow managed to cut through the armor and wound Barristan.
They did a good job of it as well in one of the earlier seasons when Jorah fights one of Drogo’s blood riders, the rider lands a hit with his arahk but Jorah’s armour stops it cold.
@@alexanderthompson7164 Agreed, I had a huge problem with how the Lannister men killed Ned's escort so easily in the show. As I recall they were in mail.
That's the clip I had at the end of the original video that eventually got flagged. I played his whole fight at the end of the video for the reason u mentioned lol. In hindsight, im surprised it didn't get flagged much sooner. And I'm surprised I did that, bc I aim for around 10s of less per clip usually, not 30s lol
They weren't all in full plate. They weren't knights; most were just hired conscripts. I think the show is giving the impression that every soldier wears plate from head to toe, which kinda makes it seem odd when people talk about no Western army being able to face the Dothraki in the open field. Obviously, if they were all armoured, it would be pretty easy. And if they knew where the fight would take place, so they could prepare defenses against mounted riders, it would be extremely easy. They've kinda bigged-up the Dothraki a bit too much, but meh...it's only Tits and Dragons. It's just a bit of fun.
The Dayne fight was fantastic. I cannot imagine fighting so many men with two long swords. The magic of that sword mist help a lot. My favorite fight was Arya and Brienne. That was really well done. Shes become borderline mythical fighting like that. The only other time we see real water dancing is in Mereen when Jorrah almost dies to the Bravosi w the skinny sword. I wish they put more into showing a good fight from Selmy and also from the Unsullied. Theyre suppose to be amazing fighters but in the show they look kind of incompetent.
You do a character justice by spending your money on a good actor, not on a choreographer. The fights in the show are messy...like real sword fights. The really bad choreography is in fights like Oberyn vs the Mountain, or Arthur dayne vs Ned and co, where people leap about and spin like fools, and enemies stand still in the background to buy time, rather than all pile in at once. I like the realism. I don't want to see people with superpowers leaping all over the place and doing stuff that would just get them killed in reality. I think some of the realism has been lost lately. Especially with Arya. I'm just glad they cut that fight with Brienne. If you look at the making of it, she was doing backflips and stuff. The yreally need to avoid making it look like a cheap Chinese Kung Fu movie
Ash, i see your point and agree. But thats not what I was talking about. The choreography does not always match the character development in the writing. Which may or may not be a funding issue. It may also be that each GoT set employee has more freedom than they should in attempting to keep continuity with a characters development. On second thought, its probably the latter.
To fix/improve the choreography, I’d make it a point to have all the characters wear helmets in many of the anticipated fights and for the _entire duration_ of every full-scale battle, you know, just like how they actually would do in real life. In this way, it would be much easier to implement the filming of trained stunt-doubles fighting from multiple angles, while also adding a sense of realism and lore from their head gear. This is why action sequences in many superhero and modern war films look good because they’re almost always stuntmen under those masks/helmets when you see them actually fighting. On another note, GRRM himself even made it a point in a few of his old interviews (and I think even a chapter or two) to make fun of people (in real and in this fictional history) that went into battle without their helmets on. They would often get themselves killed this way by some glancing strike, when such a death could’ve easily been avoided. It’s a Hollywood trope to showcase the actors’ pretty faces this way and to tell the audience that _this person_ will survive because they don’t have a helmet on. This is the fantasy/action cliché that GRRM wanted to avoid, unless the characters were actually making note of it here. And yet, that’s ironically what they ended up doing for every battle scene depicted so far.
My list of best fighters 1. Sr Arthur Dayne 2. Sr Barristan 3. Jaime 4. Qhorin Halfhand 5. Robert Baratheon 6. Oberyn Martell 7. The Hound 8. The Mountain 9. Reahgar 10. Brienne
My list 1. Ser arthur dayne the sword of the morning 2. See barristan selmy the bold and the badass 3. Obryn martel the red viper of dourne 4. King Robert I Baratheon 5. Ser jamie 'kingslayer' lannister 6. Lord eddard stark warden of the north (show, not books. Show ned stark is a greak fighter compare to book ned) 7. Ser Brienne of Tarth, first female knight of the seven kingdoms 8. Ser Loras Tyrell, heir of highgarden 9. Khal drogo, the great khal of the Dothraki khalasar. 10. Sendor 'the hound' clegane
There are generally two types of Bodyguards, the Celebrity Guard and the Professional Guard. Celebrity Guards are chosen primarily for intimidation value, their job is to stand between their employer and the looky-loos and wannabe badasses and make sure they aren't crowded or harassed. The Professionals on the other hand are (in modern times) the ones with the cut jackets and earwigs, they stand just behind the employer reading faces, looking at possible ambush points and escape routes, their job is to protect the employer from the serious threats. fighting if they have to, escaping if they can. The Pit Fighters were Celebrity Bodyguards and bad ones at that. In the Pits they meet their enemies one on one, face to face, with little armor and weapons chosen for entertainment and bloodletting, it's all very straightforward, and afterward they go back to the back, chill out, heal up, and for the non-eunich males usually get hooked up with a worthy slave-girl to make future quality Pit Fighters until the next fight, that's all they do. For the Kingsguard, the Professional Bodyguards, there is no downtime, they're on duty all the time, they don't relax until they're relieved, and they don't expect fair one-on-one fights
@@blessedevelyn339 Sorry it took so long to get back, RU-vid has a bad habit of not telling me when I get responses, I just happened to come back to this video today. Earwig, radio ear-bud, listening to the rest of their team as they're also keeping watch
You got top 3 correct, rest is debatable but the hound deserves to be a lot higher and the mountain a lot lower. The Mountain was known for his size and savagery, not skill, unlike his brother, the hound, who had size and skill.
Great list but I would switch the Mountain and The Hound as The Hound was a much more skilled fighter while the Mountain was just the strongest and most brutal warrior. I also think Robert Baratheon should be 4th he was an incredible fighter in his prime and beat Rhaegar an extremely skilled fighter in a 1v1 during battle. Id love to see Jamie Lannister vs Oberyn Martell though that would be a great fight!
I love how u included the bold nickname. I was sooooo tempted both times I uploaded this to have "the bold" in the title (but opted to leave it out to avoid confusion with asoiaf muggles :-P
Ahhh. I apologize for spoiling this for you. My bad! The books are fun tho. You'll get a lot of different supplots. And even when there are similar scenes between the show and the books, they feel different since books have a tool shows don't (train of thought). This rings especially true for Jaime POV chapters. He's a real cool dude at his core
I cleaned it up a little bit. The original transparent images had a lot of free floating spots outside the characters and weapons. And I removed a huge random clip of Jorah at the end as well as that audio where I rambling about how people buy the books or audiobooks bc they are awesome lol
I used to want to do that but now I'm struggling to make ends meet. So I'm not committing to any sort of routine. Like chapter breakdowns. Episode breakdowns. Or other series like the dance of dragons or top fighters. I'm staying flexible, and if I don't get enough views on game of thrones videos I'll start allocating more time towards other booKS and shows in hopes of keeping the channel alive My past qna videos barely got any views. So for the time being, those type of videos are off the table unfortunately
Very understandable, Kev. Anyways, thank you for throwing this one back for us to see. It was a nice re-run, and I definately do enjoy me a good re-run. 😊
Barriston the Bold Bad Ass... One of my absolute favorite characters and such a chivalrous knight! Thank you for giving him the respect he is due. I absolutely hate the death he was given in the show. Just breaks my heart. 💔💔💔 Thanks, Kev! 💋
Having read the books before the show, Selmy's death was legitimately the first one that shocked me. I was so looking forward to this fight scene dammit! Still, better than season 8 I guess :D
I'm not embarrassed to say, I shed a tear or two when it was him who died on the show... I love Ser Barristan the Bold! Thanks for sharing that excellent scene from *Dance* ...I loved it!!! ;)
So much more could have been done with a few minutes of screen time and a small budget. Epic reminisces from Barristan the Bold about his experiences enhancing the storyline while drumming up support for a Selmy sequel. His death by a few masked peasants in a back alley was nothing short of the death knell for GoT.
I would have loved the dismissal of Barristan Selmy to have been as epic a mistake as the beheading of Ned Stark. I wish he was there at the end to cut his fanboy, Jamie, into small pieces before dragging Cersi to the feet of Dani.

@@kellylausman259 completely agtee and didnt realize i felt similarily to you until the last season aired. Especially with a show like this where the story has got the power of keeping you on the edge of your seat. The magic/shock value associated with suspense of altering your heart rate is something your potentially robbing yourself of from feeling. I was originally one of those ppl who went out of my way to purposely obtain spoilers prior to the season being aired. Before it was differnt when reading the books prior to the seasons being aired bc you were still getting the suspense and experience of the story as originally intended. Now weve dwelved into the realm of the unknown, passed and diff from the original source material/books where now the knowledge/spoilers unfortunatly ruin the experience. Hence why i feel safe in this channel
Then come on sir !!! This is my favorite Barristan part. Also when they ask him if he would break the Queens peace and he responds ,...I'll shatter it.
In the book's barristan selmy left a string of corpses (sent by either Cersei or Joffrey) behind him after he was dismissed from the kingsguard. It is so sad that they did not show this in the series.
I know this is much later, but he was faster that is true. But Selmy was in plate. Plate is heavy, thus he was slower. This is the trade off for protection. It actually shows how smart he is not wasting energy bloking unimportant strikes.
I doubt Kraz was the fastest man Barristan ever fought.think that was his old age talking. I also doubt Barristan would've "cut through the 5 of them like carving a cake". By the time he got to guard #3 the Hound would've cut him down. Hound beats old barristan while he's fighting numerous guards. Hound could likely beat old Barristan one on one. If we are being half way realistic about what age does to even the best warriors.
Still debatable considering the fact that Barristan is still a beast in his old age, Khrazz is a legendary pit fighter after all, I would say Barristan would take Sandor in a fight.
In the first book Mr. Martin wrote about armor crushing under sword blows. It appears that after research he learned that sword strikes would never crush temper steel plate and only seldomly it could cut through mail.
This was not the biggest shame to cut out of the show though! Ser Barristans true moment of badass was after he was dismissed from the kingsguard. While he was writing down his own dismissal in the White Book, four goldcloaks (Slynt and 3 others) was sent after him to arrest him on perceived threats against the crown. _Without even having a sword,_ he killed two of those goldcloaks before fleeing the castle. His final actions in Kings Landing certainly showed he was more than capable of being a kingsguard still.
Ser Barristan was so much more interesting than that unnecessary 'eunich's are sexy too' scene, which seems to be the only reason (in S7) Grey Worm and Missande are present at at all. Oh wait, Missy and Dany tots talk about cute boys too!
So I’ve never read the books, so I had no idea that Dothraki Arakh’s were more like Scimitars in the books instead of Sickle/Khopesh’s. This alone puts a completely different image of the fight in my head.
Imagine a contest between Arthur Dayne, Barristan Selmy, Jaime Lannister, Oberyn Martell, Khal Drogo, Sandor Clegane, Gregor Clegane, Loras Tyrell, Jaqen H'ghar, Daario Naharis, Aero Hotah, Robert Baratheon, Bronn, Grey Worm and Qhorin Halfhand ..... all without armor and with swords, knifes, hammers or spears only !!!!!
These are probably my favorite videos of yours. Your incorporation of show and animation is seamless and a lot of fun. And you chose some great scenes to narrate.
you're always the first to comment on these types =)) im glad you like them. this is a fun scene. i originally titled it with the word "tribute" back in the day. because the show did barriston (and Aero Hotah) dirty. barristan is the man! (outside of his extreme ned-like views against jaime of what constitutes "duty and honor")
bridge4 I don’t have many bones to pick with the show, it’s an adaptation, changed have to be made, so on and so forth, but I was pretty upset when Barriston died. I think that actually upset me more than the Red Wedding. I knew that was coming, wasn’t easy to watch but like Ned, it was pretty clear what was about to go down. If they do some prequels I hope we see him in his prime. Being a vet tech has its faults but I like to think that it’s all worth it since I can watch RU-vid videos when things are slow.
:)) I'm with ya. I actually remove most comments relating to bad scripting or show changes (even if they are accurate comments.. *eh hem* dorne.) Buti like to keep the focus on the plethora of good stuff one exception is areo and barristan. I usually let those comments all fly oUT of respect for or fallen warriors (as long as d&d aren't mentioned my name)
bridge4 I usually don’t mind people expressing their opinions, but (at risk of sounding old) there’s just something about the internet that just brings out the worst in people, especially in the comments section. It’s a show, you can like it, you can dislike it, but don’t let that dislike consume you, it not worth your time. Man oh man, being a vet tech is great about 95% of the time. It’s not fun to get kicked (we have a lot of horses and cows in the area) or bitten but they’re animals, they’re in pain, it’s not their fault, and it can usually be avoided. The only real down sides are euthanasia and seeing abused animals. It never gets any easier but for every end there’s a new beginning just around the corner.
Im sad how Barristan Selmy died in the show. We only saw him really fight once. He should have lived to travel with Dany to Westeros because the reaction of Cercei seeing him would be amazing
Barristan the Bold is one of the best characters in ASOIAF. Between the Duskendale rescue and the slaying of Maelys in the war of the Ninepenny Kings, it is clear to see why his name is spoken with reverence by friend and enemy alike.
You gave Barristan Selmy the Demon Edge from Dota 2 again! I love that game! And Barristan! Cool fight. It should've been in the show. Thanks for the read. :)
It's the same video. I had to take it down a couple months ago. So I just pulled up the file, removed the fluff from the end that was causing the copyright flag, and also cleaned up the transparent images of the swords and people so that there were less random white spots flying around lol
Ser barristan the bold selmy greatest knight of his time chivalrous as any and truest knight of westeros wha a guy wud of loved to se selmy in his early years fuck he's 60 now can so imagine him half that I know he's got better prob with age but still I bet he was quicker stronger and one man I wud n't fancy a trial of combat maybe a trial of 7 v ser selmy ...on his own and yet he wud still win barristan you rock my friend grateful read kev, fucking hate the harpy
The biggest secret is that Barristan Selmy is actually the bad guy here! Just think of the situation. Just barged in the guys room at night and killed him. He betrayed Ned, the mad King. It says here that his sword just burst to flames when he started fighting.. who do we know whose swords do that? exactly... Barristan Selmy had been humiliated as a young teen at a tourney, where he is called ironically The Bold, a lot like Littlefingers story. His entries as Lord Commander are written by him. He has things to say both on the Tragedy of Summerhal and the Tourney at Harenhaal, having been in both places, yet no one is curious as to why he is in every parts of these stories. Barristan Selmy, or perhaps Jon Connington, since they were born on the same day and might be the same person, is a bad guy. The last, and third person to betray Daenerys.
I also miss the fight Selmy fought when he quitted Joffrey and got catched by the red cloaks that didnt wanted to let him go this easy after the badass words he said in front of the king.. so he just killed them ( and I think he didnt even had a weapon, because he dropped his sword in front of Joffrey)
Killing Selmy like that really fuckin pissed me off......first killing him period is lame as shit....2nd he went to battle with zero armor....makes perfect sense....damn writers.
Lol. I found out the issue. I think I wss using music from the show but used it too loudly. So it got flagged as if I wss just uploading the song solo I cant complain. HBO is very generous in their allowance of video clips and musical scores as background tracks (as long as they are not too loud) But thanks for making me smile with your comment :))
Selmy, in my restrospect, that only Tywin got mad respect and that wont confront. Tywin dont want have problems against Selmy and even he does even Tywin would hire an assasin, it will only lead back to him. Its a sheer awe that a perfect knight exist as if legend that Selmy went solo RPG the Mad king (even Selmy fully aware of Madness) and actually rescued the KIng. Lets put it that Tywin manipulated the whole scenario to capture the mad king, even so the fact that he saved the King from a guarded prison. Tywin knew as long as Selmy was there, his plan wont come to fruition
Uh, what I could gather from this was that it was a guy with armor facing an armorless guy with a weapon poorly fit for armored combat. Don't get me wrong, I understand that Selmy was a legend, but I was kind of expecting something more impressive because, yes, Selmy can actually do much better than this.
Selmy should have ended standing next to Tyrian with Bran the Broken King re-appointing him as head of the Kings Guard and tasked with remaking it with only Men with Honor. And his first choice would have been Brianna of Tarth.
Ser beristan daringly countered king joefry & ceresi & others laughing after he was dismissed insult..actually pissed them off..that scene was badass powerful..such iron man getting killed by few masked intruders is something sad..and real quick death for such strong character..there should have been some intense drama or most intense important fight If Director wants to cut the role..personally wanted him at the end of got and watching the collapse of dynasty which threw him out..ecp Ceresi..
They did Selmy wrong by killing him of Why couldnt they atleast save His death for when the harpys attack in the arena? Selmy and Jorah could have a nice moment with Selmy seeing that Dany needs Jorah more...
Good Gawd!!! What wouldn't Dan and Dave put this in the show?!?! Every time they had a chance to put in the painter that only used red whooping someone's ass they should have!!!!
I find it weird that people are super angry about the Selmy death. Like at 60 years old he killed 16 men before dying lol. It sucks ass he should never have been killed off, but no swordsman could’ve survived that encounter... except maybe Arthur dayne.
For sure. I have have a video in progress about people who "went out like bosses," and show barristan is on that The dude wrecked shop against a dozen or so dudes. No shame in his fall. It was badass
It was great to see the legendary Ser Barristan "The Bold" Selmy in action before he died. The saying, going out on your shield does what he did no justice. He cut down close to a dozen men before his end. I just want to know why did he not wear any armour during his service to Danny T, the man was a knight
@@bridge4 yah yah for his fight with Kraz the pit fighter, definitely an epic duel. I think that they under used and undervalued Barristan in the show. He should have been killed by the Night King
I still don't understand why the GoT series was shortened. The most popular series in the world which could have been longer, more in depth and better had they stuck to the original story. also, they could probably have got another season or 2 from the material they missed out, which given this is the most popular series in the world equates to discarding your ability to milk the story for profit.
"All of his armor except his helmet" - Might as well put up an "I'm stupid" sign, Helmet and shield and no armor is better than the finest plate with no helmet.
Even now I could cut through the 5 of you like carving a cake - And they knew it. Such a bad a$$ line which says so much about a character they kind of threw away later.
Barristan could've basically taken down all of Stannis' men that landed on the beach at The Battle of Blackwater had Joffrey not been a little POS and forced him to retire.
Remember when the show actually made sense, barristan dies after he is outnumbered and he was one of the greatest swordsman ever, in s8 random people fight off hundreds of wights and survive
