For this tutorial, we will be using Bluehost and you can use our affiliate/referral link for a discount below:

The video will go through the different steps in purchasing and getting BlueHost set up. The only addon that you may want to consider would be the privacy addon, otherwise, we do not recommend the other addons as they can be replaced with WordPress plugins.
Once your purchase is complete, BlueHost should install WordPress for you or walk you through the installation process for the settings that you would like to have on creation. After that, you would want to log into the WordPress site to start editing.
To remove any excess clutter we will be disabling all plugins except MonsterInsights(gives you Analytics), WPForms(allows you to create contact forms), and OptinMonster. For the others, we will click the checkbox and in the dropdown options, we will select deactivate, apply, and then repeat that process for deleting the plugins.
For the design of your site, you would want to go under Appearance, Themes, and choose the theme you would like, for this tutorial we have purchased and are using the Astra theme. You can find that theme using our referral/affiliate link below:

After the base design of the site is set up or you have a template added, we will want to fix the URLs on your site so they are human-readable. To do this we will go under Settings, Permalinks and update the permalinks to a different version. We prefer the post name default option.
The video will go through the different customization options available and different ways you can customize your site. If you use a different theme then your options may be different than what is shown in the video for appearance.
The general settings, as well as available plugins, should not change based on the theme you are using.
We also walk you through setting up a contact form with WPForms, connecting your site to Google Analytics using Monster Insights, and a nice tip for creating personalized landing pages using SeedProd.

I cannot thank you enough for this tutorial. I’m an engineer and knows coding but OMG it is so confusing when I first started with Wordpress and I just couldn’t understand why none of the themes look the way they are after installation. I even attended WP’s live webnair and it was quite useless to be honest. I see you have three tutorials like this, one dated 2019, the next 2020, and the last 2021. Unknowingly, I started watching the oldest one but after a doubt I had, I entered the channel and found there was yet another version, the one for 2019 and later, browsing through the channel, I found this other version. Naturally, I am taking this last version as the most appropriate for a newbie to learn how to set up a WordPress site. Is it any good to watch the other two versions or should I stick to just this one to get what it takes about setting up a WordPress website? Congratulations! It’s very beautiful and convenient to have the whole tutorial split in its component parts with time stamps, so that we can easily review those tracks that we find difficult to understand. You are so awesome. I just had to say that what you showed me in this video saves me a ton of time especially in this new digital age I'm 50 years old I'm starting my own janitorial company. I still got to do a couple of more things I've got the LLC already. But yeah this video was so informative and it's so easy and so low cost to start in case I close my door after the first year of opening a business this is my second LLC. Editing the look of your site would not be done through the Block/Gutenberg editor it should be when you try to create a page or post that you see the editor. If you are not seeing it when editing posts and pages you may want to check your plugins to see if you have the classic editor plugin active on your site.

Far too many online tutorials are too hard to understand and I'm NOT talking about learning code either. Some videos about how to build a website with their wellknown websites talk far too fast and with far too much information to take it in while watching their half hour or often much longer videos and then when the videos finally finish you are exhausted and can only remember a handful of what they said. BUT....... Christina from WPBeginner Tutorials really explained everything and demo'd her site as she went and I really started to understand it all Thank you Christina (I hope I spelled your name correctly) ?? If you mean the right-hand side then you should be able to click the gear/cog icon at the top of the page to make it appear.

Very informative but I have one question. My website is specialized (and ecommerce). I found a theme but I can't find a template that will work. Is there a way to change the existing photo's that are on the header, etc. on a template?

Most themes should allow you to change all of the images in the theme itself or if there is not a built-in option you can normally reach out to the theme's support for a method to modify the image.

Hi, great tutorial but I'm a little stuck. I'm a complete beginner to WP and following the tutorial exactly as a test run. Changing the "Take Action" button via the Primary Menu and I don't seem to have an option here to remove the button? Am I missing a plugin?

The only plugin that may matter would be the plugin from 8:24 otherwise you would likely want to reach out to the theme's support to see if the option was removed.

Hello. We have a site that was built in 2015. It is super slow but we don't know what we can remove safely since we no longer have access to the web designer. Is there a list or site that shows us which plugins can be deleted now that Wordpress has had many updates which may include features which make some older plugins unnecessary?

I don't understand the "install wordpress" step. I got my domain name through google domains and then connected it to my WP site though my account. I never had to install wordpress anywhere, I just log onto the wordpress site and edit my site from there. But I don't have have the "dashboard" tab or have the ability to install plugins. It says I need to upgrade to a business account. How can I work around this so I can get these features in the tutorial?

Thanks for the amazing stuff! When i submit sitemap in GSC it shows success but is unable to discover Urls hence the Urls are not even discovered. Tried submitting news sitemap plus post sitemap. It also does the same shows success status but no urls are discovered. Tried Api for instant indexing it is also not working. What might be wrong?

If you have Beaver Builder and Elementor, then those take over the Gutenberg/block editor with their own interfaces. They each have their own documentation for how to use them.

If you are directly editing the theme's files then you would need a child theme but if you are using tools like the theme customizer and adding your CSS in the additional CSS area you would not need a child theme :)

At 8:28 when I go to plugins ( I am using Astra like you) and go to the library it doesn't show me the page builder choice, it takes me to a video showing me how to use starter templates. If I go to Appearance again it takes me to the same video. Where is the page builder choice button? I finally googled it and it told me : Dashboard, navigate to Tools → Post Types and click the Add New Button, name it Portfolio, for example. Now, click on the Page Builder tab next to the Text and Visual tabs, use the Page Builder Add Widget and Add Row buttons to build your portfolio custom post type layout. But tools doesn't give me a post types choice. If I click on Available Tools it also does not give me any choices. To the right of the menu it only tells me to set up Analytics, Optin Monster and WP Forms. I went back to the video it took me to and ran it all the way to the end and then clicked Start Building your website. It then took me to Select Page Builder but it didn't include Guttenberg, only three other choices. I am stuck and can't go forward without it. Now I accidentally logged out of WP and when I came back in it is trying to set me up from scratch again and I can't find my dashboard/home. This is getting to be not worth it. This all started because I watched the video over and over again, trying to follow the instructions on how to choose a page builder and now I am lost. I want Guttenberg and Astra because I want a block builder.

It sounds like your specific theme may have some styling issues, if you try a different theme or reach out to your current theme's support and they can take a look and assist.

For your domain it would depend on if you are hosting your site with GoDaddy or another hosting provider. If you're on a different hosting provider then you can change your nameservers to point your domain to your new host as one option and then you would be able to set up your MX records on your new host to have your email working.

If you don't see blocs in your post and page editing screen, your site may be using the old classic editor. You would want to check if you have the classic editor plugin active and your site is up to date for the most common reasons to not see the block editor!

It would depend on at what part you got lost, we would recommend watching through the video again and you can still follow the guide with a set up site. If it is something from your hosting provider went wrong then you can normally reach out to your host and they would assist you.
