I always wondered why all laptop manufacturers make such a flimsy wiring ... my guess.... they want it to break so they can sell consumers entire new chargers just for a broken wire.
Yeah the design of these cables is just dreadful. I've had to wait 3 weeks for delivery and spend a few hundred bucks on replacing my first cable and my second cable is also starting to give issues. Greed must have something to do with it because no product designer can be that bad at their job.
Thanks so much for posting this. May you be blessed in all your endeavours 🙏 I was a bit overwhelmed and scared when my charger spoilt but this video is really encouraging. Thanks a lot. I'm your newest subscriber now
Thanks mate! It may be stupid :D but before watching this upload I never thought that I can actually stretch the heat shrink tubing that much and it will still work! Thanks to this I was able to strengthen the cable without soldering!
good job, one thing you could do, is use stiff zip ties, to STIFFEN the wire. Just use 3 or 4 of them, cut off the ziptie heads, and cut to length, then... place them beside the damaged wire, and heat shrink right over them... it will really STIFFEN them up so the wire will never bend but just flex slightly.
Hey, man. I'm not dealing with a broken pin or wires from the plug that connects to my security camera system but the plastic of the plug itself that secures the connection of the metal is bent on one side, making the fit onto the motherboard's port too narrow. How do I fix this? If I bend the plastic to not be narrow it could damage the metal inside making the proper connection. Also if I attempt to shove it on there that could mess up the port from the motherboard. From one tech guy to another, I thank you for these videos.
Very nice job. Instead of testing your final product on the laptop itself, I would have used a multimeter just to see if there was a short and if it was giving ~19.5v
that's why we should all try hard to make these repairs ourselves. But don't stop there. Make it public you had to repair their POS product. Free market has run amok. It used to be in my mom and dad's and g.parents time , you could by a Frigidaire refrigerator and it would dependably last a solid fifty plus years! There once was pride in companies who built reputations of dependability and longevity off product all made in one plant by people who took pride in what they did. Then, slowly companies started 'cheaping out', buying cheap, inferior parts & components from Mexico, China, Japan. Our appliances are now cobbled together with unregulated (and dangerous/unreliable) parts with no quality control and the goal of these garbage products is giving us 9 mths to a year of use if we are so lucky. Our money doesn't go as far as it used to and the stuff we buy falls apart so fast. It's just not right! Write reviews when your things fall apart and hold these no longer respectable name brands accountable. Make it hurt them in their bottom line. Complain. Stop buying. Fix & repair when you can, even though it's a crime to have to fix something that shouldn't have broken down so soon in the first place! We pay our hard earned money for these things. sorry for gettin riled up, but I have lost SO MUCH money from the inferior garbage companies sell. I'm talking from cords, to stereos, to cars!
The heat shrinks are just for a more secure and durable fix. If you are careful it can also work for a long time with electrical tape, so it's your decision :)
My charger wire burnt through! I don't know if it's because my cat bit into it, but i noticed it stopped working followed by a burning smell, it had started a little fire where I put electrical tape. I'm thinking of doing this so thank you! I just hope its not something wrong with the box
I've just replaced my Lenovo Laptop charging cable, but this time I've put a short length of electrical conduit over the filter and the rectangular plug that goes into the Laptop. This stops the cable from bending and failing again after time. I don't know why they put the charge port on the left side when it would be better for me if it was on the right side where my electricity sockets are located. You sound as though you have a Bulgarian accent.
Attention! You cut down the ferrite bead and that is bad! If you want to repair the cabling, do the same as this vide showed connecting the ferrite bead ALSO. That is an important part in the charging circuit.
Best explanation that I could find online: "The ferrite bead or ring on a charger acts as a dead short to high frequency alternating current. The direct current from the charger gets through just fine. The length of wire from the charger acts as an antenna and gladly picks up broadcasts from cell phones, TV and radio stations, as well as the nearest microwave oven. Modern electronics are very sensitive to even small alternating current signals. The ferrite bead is there to stop them. If it wasn’t there your laptop could do even stranger things than usual. Nobody likes that." It's just a filter and in reality it's there also to prevent your laptop from "broadcasting" as any laptop passes trough lots of tests to make sure it can be used near sensitive devices. So, your laptop will not be damaged by removing it for sure, but in some extreme cases you might see weird behaviour. Personally I have never seen issues by removing it from a charger cable. But I have seen issues on cheap usb cables that did not have it and neither did they have a mesh ground wire on the exterior. Adding the ferite in that situation fixed the cable and made it usable.
I have another power cord with that big black box,,but I don't remember what it was used on. Could I add the wire to fit my laptop onto that box? If it's in same watts or volts
It needs to supply identical voltage (V) (+-5% is still safe sometimes) and be able to supply the maximum current (A) needed by your laptop without overheating. If this is good, then, as long as you keep the correct polarity in mind and your laptop cable only has 2 wires, you should be ok.
If you don't need to remove it, just leave it there. It's really hard to guess the results. But could cause instability and interference with other devices.
Seems a poor trade-off to remove the noise filter because a bigger pain to troubleshoot a computer problem than to repair the cable again later. I doubt that the noise will actually break anything in the computer but the filters are used for a good reason.
Yes, and no. Many times such things are used just to pass various tests. Yes, it's better to leave it in place, but never have I had issues by removing one. But, if the pcb is badly designed, adding one could solve problems as I found out on the usb cable of a dell printer.
my charger was cut in the middle where the rectangular box is(to the side which connect to the laptop as you showed in this video with the part you protected from future damage), now i cut one of the circular ring and connected the outer wire but the problem is my charger doesn't seem to have much amount of outer wire so i cant join them as solidly as i would like so now i have just straightened them on them both side just so they are touching but whenever i move the laptop/charger the connection is lost and due to coronavirus i can't get these protective coating so i tried black tape but it became sticky in just two days and now the whole point is sticky so what should i do ?
@@UltimateDIY no worries bro found a small pice of moldable plastic wire by sheer luck and used it to stick the outer wire then some tape and cotton string and finally the rubber coating from a ball pen then some more cotton string on it , i think it's working fine as of now let's see how long it goes without any issue.
My Chromebook samsung charger is broken, and I hate the charger's thing, I cannot do what I want today it was like my last days, So It might help if this is the same thing that does in chargers.
help! My charger is kinda ripped off but the Inside of it is intact.. I put tape on it and it worked.. And then one day the tape was gone and i was rlly scared of putting tape couse it rlly was ripped up, but the wire is still intact.. Should i put tape again??
If you are confident enough open it up and fix it. Otherwise take it to someone who can, but do not continue to use it like this, because you can even damage your laptop or start a fire in the worst case.
My outer cable are spread/surrounding the inner cable what should I do? Should I twist it to make one roll instead? I hope u understand my question my english is bad
Ok so I know this video is old but do you know what to do when the pin inside the chargee got stuck in laptop and I can't charge I heard there's a fix.
Well, did the laptop connector got damaged in the process? The only solution if it did not get damaged is to find a way yo get it out and buy a new charger or at least charger cable to replace the bad one. There are some ways to force a laptop to charge even without a central pin, but they require good soldering skills, opening up the laptop soldering some resitors and risking to kill the motherboard, so it's not a good idea.
@@UltimateDIY i have this problem like in your 2:30, the very top of that is broken near the box shape of the charger. how can repair it? please help thanks
hi sir please i have a question my laptop charger part of its cable get really hot so the laptop keep disconecting if i cut the damaged part and solder it will be fixed and if it yes the output power of the charger will not change.thank you
Hi. You should actually do that before you start a fire. Is gets hot because it's a partial short circuit. The specifications of the charger will not change. Just make sure you connect all the wires.
