⚠️⚠️⚠️ For those looking for something in between these two, check my RU-vid review of the new EagleView device: • EagleView Ultrasound C... It has the good features of both devices (Way better image quality than Butterfly IQ+, comparable B mode image quality to Vscan Air with more imaging modes for almost half the price…), and nowadays it's the best multi-purpose hand-held ultrasound device IMHO.
Face-to-face battle between two of the best portable ultrasound devices: the Butterfly IQ+ and the GE Vscan Air. None of them payed/gave me anything nor sponsored the video, so everything I say here is my “honest and impartial” opinion. I like to show the images and features and let people create their own opinion based on what they see… So, did you like it? Drop below your suggestions/experience/thoughts in the comments! And share it with your work colleagues and friends that may be interested!

Congratulations. You did a fantastic comparison and , for me, in Brazil. I work with ultrasound devices since 2000 and i teach it in an university. They bought a VINNO s device instead a GE VScan, and asked me what about this change.

Great comparison! Somethings I would like to add. The V scan can be laggy at times. Because it is wireless occasionally the image becomes jerky which is a problem when doing interventions or cannulating. The butterfly footprint is larger requiring a modification of technique if someone is used to a traditional ultrasound. Butterfly also includes remote guidance capabilities and has an entire library of artificial intelligence guided education.
@mastersofultrasound
@mastersofultrasound 3 года назад
I agree with the Butterfly part, the wider footprint can be tricky at the beginning. Regarding Vscan, I haven’t had any laggy issues but I understand it deppends on the individual experience. I don’t know if the smartphone/iPad model (mine was iPhone 7 and iPad Air 1st gen) plays an important role, maybe the processor or sth?

Great comparison! The VScanAir's image quality is very impressive, especially for cardiac imaging. For other applications like superficial vascular imaging, it seems like the IQ+ is close enough to be competitive. Have you noticed any lag with the wireless Vscan Air? For example, when doing needle-based procedures like arterial/central lines or nerve blocks?

Fps is undisclosed unless in eagleview which is 18fps. It does matter, yes, specially for cardiac images (due to movement). For other organs it may not be that much important...

🙋🏻‍♂️Masters of Ultrasound here to help!! (RU-vid and IG), I would recommend you to decide what you value the most (none is perfect yet) between the multipurpose probes (3-in-1 probes), which for that price are: - Butterfly: great support and price (annual subscription sucks but the entry is affordable), worse image quality imho (as all these opinions on this comment). Wired or wireless not that much important unless you're gonna switch between iphone and ipad (lightning vs usbc) or share it with a colleague who has different iphone/android. - GE Vscan Air: the best image quality among the listed, more expensive (4,5k$ no annual sub) and battery lasts

Do you have a promotional code for the GE VScan you can share?
@sherifbatawy
@sherifbatawy 2 года назад
in B Mode the GE has a superior image quality. in CF the Butterfly is better. I wouldn’t buy it without M-Mode so that’s an easy win for the Butterfly, they need to produce a new wireless version with a curvilinear side though.
@mastersofultrasound
@mastersofultrasound 2 года назад
Yes, I agree with you. Regarding what you ask, check the EagleView review in my channel, because it has what you ask for (curvilinear side, M mode, good B mode image quality and cheaper than Butterfly). Have a look at that!☺️👍🏻
@Tomocraft

@@mastersofultrasound The lack of M-mode is a matter of updating the software or rather the lack of a suitable converter in the device ?

@mastersofultrasound

Annual subscription means cheaper price when you buy it but an annual fee that adds up quickly. Life long means a one time payment when you buy it. No more payments ever. Another thing is the warranty coverage time :)

VScan images are superior. You did not trial continuous scanning such as for POCUS training or a busy ambulance or ED. Butterflys overheat and have to cool down to continue scanning. Over the long haul the Vscan will be cheaper. I suspect more modes are coming.

Does the butterfly is a linear and convex probe 2 in 1?
@CH-sl2ph
@CH-sl2ph Год назад
actually it combines 3 probes in one: curved (convex), linear and sector probe. its also the only one wich provides a bi-plane image that can be very helpful for inserting cvl or iv. apart from that it is no piezzo-crystal technology, its semiconductor technology, meaning not that sensitive in daily usage. I am using it for almost two years now. the only disadvantage is the cable and the connection. but if broken, butterfly is replacing it with no cost and very quick.

If I understand it correctly with the butterfly there must be an internet connection available to access the butterfly app ? When I tried the butterfly it draíned the power of my iphone 7 plus within 15 min. And it is not possible to connect the butterfly to Your iphone when You use an accu holding cover like mophie juicepack. Furthermore You have to buy this butterfly support at a cost of 400 plus USD per year - a lifelong version as stated by You is not available in Europe. On the whole the butterfly is useless as POC -device for emergency doctors with no constant access to the internet. And the yearly fee of 400 and more is just a scam. With such politics butterfly will not win many friends in Europe. Too bad actually - but greedyness seldom pays out in the end. But anyhow THX for the comparison
