myblueshades no there not easy and that’s why they give them, they do get easier the more you do it and sounds to me like you know how to do it like I’d like too feel
Thank you Bob Moffett you are so great! I've been teaching welding for years and now I'm going back to TIG welding which I have been away from for a few years and it's quite challenging and ungrateful for all the tips that you and the great welding teachers and welders give all of us on RU-vid!
Love the banter, Mr. Moffatt. Your videos are very informative, and usually quite funny. I like how you poke fun at yourself and all around you. That's a sign of a TRUE welder. I also want to thank your boy for his service to this country, and to thank you as well for your service to this trade.
Mr Moffet your a boss ! Watched you as a student now I'm two years in the trade and still learning from you. Your impact in the industry is one to admire... Much respect to you! 👩🏭
Very good advise, straight to the point !! Good comments , we feel your experience and on top of that good and better ,and better video shots , camera man is getting very good at that .Now we see better what the instructor tries to show us Good job you guys !!!
i wish my dads old 240 volt montgomery wards buzz box welded like that, but i have never really learned to clean my material before i started watching welding videos like yours and weldingtipsandtricks. you and jody have taught me how to get the most out of my new hobert 190... kudos!!!
Hi Bob, Another excellent video, your comments on students doing a test having done no prep does not surprise me. And welding, like most manual skills, comes with learning the basics and then practice. I can also relate to your comments on the effects of age and losing that steady hand. I'm older than you, and the eyesight also doesn't cooperate and having bifocals regularly find the split line right where I'm welding and can't see a thing! Old age is not something to look forward to. The body doesn't always like getting into some of those awkward positions either. Best wishes, Dennis
Bob im 53 been weldin since i was in my mid 20's and here is what ive found with youth...they want u to tell them how to do something that can only be learned through experience....does that make since?they always sayin teach me how to weld but dont want to put in the hours of sweat and gettin burned and tears from when you fail....etc....if you never fail u havnt tried hard enough!push yourself to the point of failing and you will grow!!!
Thanks Bob for another great video. As a pipe welder who passed ALOT of tests over the years, I learned to run a root pass and (over the years)weave out to my cap stringers. No matter what the position. From 2" to 3" pipe. Anything over that, stringers.
can you help me i’m using 88s rods 8016’s for 6g 2.5mm rod 3mm gap with 2.5mm land these rods run very different from 7016/7018’s a lot harder any advice?
Just got a Lincoln pro 140 mp, so excited to use it. My first welder after welding school. Getting everything set up to hopefully run it soon. I've never done 6g either. I will get there with instructors like you out there
When I was in welding school they told us to 1) whip and pause on the root, rather than a straight stringer. And 2) grind the rough of the 6010 root and run a 7018 as a hot pass that way, rather than the 6010 like you do. Does one method have any advantage/disadvantage vs the other or is it personal preference?
Hi i ran across your vedio a couple weeks ago and in joy. I am 70 and. been Welding since 12 i was taugh by my father who had a shop.I think you do a real good job of teaching your students. I also like your helment could you tell me the name and were you are able to get one? Thanks
The arc strike on the table Bob was funny as all heck!It reminded me of last Friday I was training someone how to use a Airarc/carbon arc gouging rig and arc'd er on my table.Needles to say it got a laugh too..Another great video as always😎
Всегда с превеликим удовольствием смотрю (сидя перед монитором на противоположной стороне нашей планеты) Ваши видео очерки! Боб, искренне желаю Вам крепкого здоровья, успехов и благополучия!
Great video. Thank you very much for all the time and knowledge you share with us. My welding has been taken to a whole new level with all the great info you share.
Bob, thanks for doing what you do. Regarding the Esab 300 though, what's your opinion. Did I miss a review? I sure wish Esab would come out with a dual voltage 200'ish amp dc welder. I've got their 160 and love it. Thanks.
thanks for the vids Bob, riddle me this, API standard Vs ASME standard in the petrol industries, why and where would one be chosen over the other, thanks joe
It has been my experience that cross country generally falls under API 1104 and one may run downhill all passes. Soon as you get inside a plant it all changes to ASME all uphill progression.
If you're not draging your stick on that 3rd pass, how do you know you are holding it say 1/8" up as you move? Is it the size of the arc? I am in tech school, 1st semester, and do not know how to tell my arc length or even know what to look for. Also, your root pass, are you draging the 6010 or holding it up slightly?
It comes with practice and muscle memory. But u can never go wrong with a tight arc length if you’re loosing arc. After the rod is hot and running you can push the rod into the metal without it sticking.
The sound in this video is a bit messed up. The ambient sound is in the left channel, but whenever Bob talks, it switches over to being mono in the center, so when he's speaking, the audio just jumps back and forth between left and center.
Bob, could you please provide your opinion on weld layers and the importance of those positions based on... 6G, 45 deg away, sch 160, 6" carbon, 5P+ root/fill, LH Cap.. Regards J.D.
Quiero agradecerle que gracias Asus tutoriales e aprendido mucho en soldadura en tubería sobretodo en el primer paso o fondeo mil gracias Saludos desde tampico Tamaulipas México
Could you give some pointers on the root pass I’m in the Veterans in Piping program on Camp Lejuene and have been working at this the last 3 weeks trying to test for the UA 21 the 2” double heavy in 6G I cannot get my root pass uniform
Hello Bob, I was seeing if you could show me how to performed an overhead weld with E6010 root/fill and cap on 3/8 bevel, having a little trouble thank you very much.
Bob, I started on 1G with an open back but I can’t seem to get a good root pass without whipping the bead in. I see that when you run your root, you have hardly any movement, if any movement at all. What would you suggest I do differently? Running 6010 1/8” rod at around 75 amps and about a 1/4 of arc strength.
Chris Harrell Plate is 3/8. If you had a 1/4 root face you essentially have no bevel left. And at that gap, you'd have to run way hot or you won't get penetration.
Bob Moffatt well, I’m sure I’m wrong on the root face. Lol! I can get a fairly consistent bead on the back side for the most part, aside from tying in. I just can’t seem to get it to work without whipping it in. I only have class two days a week and it’s a class more for the hobbyist than it is an actual class. I’ll get more information tomorrow and get back with you on it.
good video! would you be able to do a video on MIG roots? specifically starts and stops, at college (UK Level 2 - 1st year), im doing MIG open root Butt joints at the moment but i am consistently getting lack of penetration at the start and the stop near the tacks, yet the rest is spot on, we are doing this with 6mm plate in the flat position, many thanks! :)
I practice my pipe welding by welding on old tire rims. junk yards are full of them. mount them in any position on a engine overhaul stand. weld inside outside whatever weigh 50- 60 pounds when I get tired of it. haul it back to to scrap yard get a few bucks go have a beer or two go round up another few welded a bunch together once won't do that again!!
Good info for the technique, but realize to get it he's bracing on the table. Most tests like this you won't have that luxury. And also, he has a second or third man on the fume extractor, another thing people in the field will not have the luxury of. I guess it boils down to, just practice. Definitely helpful tips for that.
Bob Moffatt thank you for taking the time to reply. I found your 7018 open root and it was another great video with lots of great information. Keep on rocking bud 👍
hello sir thanks for the good work, sir please am welder from Ghana and the CEO of perfecto fabrication and construction ltd please am putting up a welding institution over here please any advice for me thanks.
Weld porn is the actuall name of the company? Or is it youtube subtitles making fun of me? Oh and which electrode are you using? 6013 AC would work too right?
What's a good question? Actually is there a question for you that you can't answer? Seriously what's the most difficult question? I feel like there's a formal answer. Is there a formal answer about a really good question?
