So, I'm actually a BIG FAN of the DET/CBJ Stadium Series going full Michigan/Ohio State, and the Stadium Series jerseys pulling from the respective universities. Like Detroit could wear a white/maize/dark blue jersey with a red winged "D" front and center, and Columbus wearing a hockey version of Ohio State's home reds.
I'm not a concept artist, but I would love to see the Blue Jackets embrace the Civil War Union uniform influence with a navy and brass scheme, maybe even a large cannon logo. This may also make the emboss effect on the first Stadium Jerseys finally look good on the numbers. (Also, this would be perfect for a colour on colour game without forcing the Red Wings to wear... err... well, you brought it up in the video)
@@garygrassler09 Oh hell yeah. An adaptation of that logo, or something like the Ohio National Guard Class A Patch (the triangular guidon), slightly adjusted of course, would be a perfect shoulder patch for the CBJ anyway!
In terms of red jerseys I would like to see the Blackhawks bring back the 40s/50s barber pole jerseys (they also wore them during the NHL’s 75th anniversary) Fun fact is that Connor Bedard’s great great uncle played for the Blackhawks around that time
Plus, the name does pay respect to a Sauk cheif, Cheif Black Hawk (Mahkatêwe-meshe-kêhkêkwa). He was born in the modern-day Rock Island, Illinois. Which then was called Saukenuk, Illinois County, British America. Which Saukenuk is honestly is an amazing name for a town!
I live near a reserve and the Natives love wearing hats for the Blackhawks, Indians, Braves, Redskins etc. If we can have names after white cultures like Vikings and Cowboys, why no Blackhawks? Maybe some people just don't like Native representation...
@@isaacwest276 No it’s because in our society using natives as a logo is “racist” but you can use white groups in the same way because you can “racist” to whites so we can use any white groups as sports teams.
I really hope the league can find a way to make that work, because these two teams are really strong right now and this rivalry would make for a great fan experience! I know the Lightning want it and the NHL’s ice experts should be able to make it feasible.
I appreciate that. The audience just dwindled so much that it wasn’t worth the time I was spending on it, sadly. People don’t really go to small time websites anymore, I guess. They just go to social media and RU-vid, so... decided to put my focus on videos.
Yeah, I mean nobody seems to watch Shorts. I see minimal views on the ones I have made compared to regular videos. But I always do a Flash Report video when something new comes along. And I do special JerseyWatch videos a few times a year-just recently for the Fanatics First Look, too. And I should have another one later in the spring.
I think the red wings should try something new like this: make the tire black and add some black accents on the jersey, make the spokes /rim of the tire silver so that the wheel looks like a legit wheel. Put this logo on the front of a jersey and I think you have a cool look
when fanatics takes over next year, since i don't think they'll be allowed to do "reverse retro" jerseys, one thought i had was for them to do "secondary crest on chest" jerseys. not all of the teams have one, but seems like a good way to capture the same kind of mystique the RR jerseys had, without being too repetitive.
Seeing a Columbus Chill concept for the Jackets, that made me think of their local roller hockey team, the Columbus Heat, who also uses that style in their third jersey. Maybe the Blue Jackets can take inspiration from the Heat? They could incorporate the skyline in the waist striping, and maybe the colours? 🤔
- Wrigley Reverse (Although I think they would use the shoulder logo in place of the head) - Eagles Reunion but needs to be executed better. - Simply - The white Face The Future jersey would be lit.
I think its wayyyy beyond time that the Red Wings break out a Detroit Cougars throwback that updates the Cougar head logo for an outdoor game. Amazing that they've never attempted to use it for a jersey since moving away from the name.
Maize and Blue Wings sweater? I'll take 2. Legitimately my first thought when the game was announced and would be amazingly off the wall in the best way.
Persoanlly i think for the Stadium series have it tie in somewhat with the colleges so Red Wings wear blue for Michigan and Blue Jackets wear wear red and make there logo almost like the ohio state O would be cool i think
As others have stated, Blue Jackets need to lean into the whole Civil War/ acutal Blue Jacket aesthetic more. Stuff like that always looke super clean & sick & has the added benefit of having historical context behind it
As a fan of old school jerseys, I have no problem with teams like RedWings and Montreal never changing uniforms, but I do agree that both teams I mentioned have dropped the ball the majority of times they’ve been given a free pass to have some fun and try something a bit different for one game, and maybe even keep them for alternates if they are a hit, but they have tried to keep it almost too safe
I really appreciate the plee for the Panthers to have an outdoor game. Been a diehard fan since 04, and hopefully we’ll get one before this window of dominance is closed!
I’ve wanted the Tomahawks logo for a specialty jersey forever. I don’t think the Blackhawks should get rid of their logo. It’s Mahkatêwe meshi kêhkêhkwa. a Sauk leader and warrior. Black Hawk earned his status as a war chief or captain by his actions: leading raiding and war parties as a young man and then a band of Sauk warriors during the Black Hawk War of 1832. The 86th Infantry Division developed the blackhawk as its insignia during World War I, to honor the Native American warrior of that name who fought the US Army in Illinois and Wisconsin during the early nineteenth century.
I feel like the tan Hawks jersey would work well with the Eagles Reunion concept. Meanwhile, for the Stadium Series, I’m thinking that the Jackets would go with something close to the Simplify concepts (though, personally, I’d love the Chill inspired jersey because my dad grew up in Ohio when the Chill were still around and he has always loved their brand), and I’m hoping the Red Wings go with something similar to the white Face the Future concept. Being a huge Wings fan who’s the son of a die hard Jackets fan, we’re already making plans to go, and I feel like that Face the Future concept-or something similar-would be perfect. Just enough wild and crazy, but not so much that it would be overwhelming to the Red Wings fans who will burn effigies at the mention of any departure from the classic brand.
Personally, Why not just make the Wrigley reverse red for Chicago and Daitchman's Blues concept. Kirkpatricks concept for Columbus and the white jersey from Burton's design for Detroit. On an unrelated note, it shocks me we have yet to see the battle of Alberta as a winter classic hopefully we see it in the future
Jackets wear silver as primary color with bold red piping and stripes (silver and red osu) and then have some white blue trim in there to represent cbj. While Detroit just wears an all white with red and black piping similarly to how Michigan typically wears all white in football when they travel to the shoe and give Detroit the Wolverine claw helmet in white and red how Michigan has it blue and yellow.
(5:52) Are we ignoring the fact that there are indigenous tribes who have voiced their displeasure with the sport team name changes? I personally think Chicago is making a good choice by keeping their name and logo as Blackhawks are a well known tribe, and the team logo isn't a racist depiction of indigenous people. Genuinely curious about what people think about this.
Indigenous people hated the Redskins because that’s a racial slur, meanwhile the Indians used outdated red face logo with Chief Wahoo However the Blackhawks are different and more respected as Chief Black Hawk was a indigenous hero in Illinois history who fought off colonialist invaders which is why the name and logo has lasted past 2020
@@icetheticsthis is completely anecdotal and not being an indigenous person, I'll never speak for one but I do live near 3 different reserves in Canada and see a lot of band members wear Hawks gear. One guy has the Hawks logo on the back of his truck with "native pride" under it. So there are folks who identify with the logo for what it is. And as with most things that people rage about on the internet, there is a lot more nuance than anyone wants to admit.
Tbh all those hawks jerseys are a miss for me. Go with red. Make the whole lower arm of the sleeve white with more accentuated double stripes into white gloves. White pants, white helmet. White to red on the bottom socks. I have a feeling however they’ll use this as a way to reintroduce the black third jersey from the 90’s which I don’t think fans will hate. Def love the idea of a red outdoor jersey for the hawks tho. We shall see
I hope Detroit adds black to these uniforms. I also hope CBus leans into the cannon. I kinda want Detroit to have a black primary and an all white uniform (kinda like Torontos outdoor game against Detroit) just with a cool cannon concept. Couldn’t really care less about the WC. I’ll only be impressed if they use the Eagles logo and the shoulder patch.
Whatever Detroit does I hope they incorporate Michigans winged helmet. It plays into the Michigan vs ohio state and we know it works since the hockey team already does it
I hope for the sake of all these teams' fanbases, they don't deal with what NJ Devils fans put up with. We didn't find out what the jerseys looked like until about two weeks before the Stadium Series game and they only produced a pathetic amount of jerseys. Leaving the large majority of the fanbase without ability to purchase one. That aside, loving the content!
Thanks for watching! It’ll be interesting to see how Fanatics handles those Stadium Series jerseys compared to the way Adidas did in their final few seasons.
Some have argued that if the Blackhawks logo is a racist cartoon stereotype of an indigenous man, than the Senators logo is a racist cartoon stereotype of a Roman man. Others have said the best way to avoid offending any group that has suffered historical atrocities is to erase all imagery depicting them so everybody can forget about the atrocities in peace.
I love the 35' Winter Classic Jersey matchup. Only question is who would be the dark colored jersey? Chicago in red or black or St. Louis in blue (or navy)?
That's a good question. I feel like the St. Louis design has to be white since that's the only sweater they ever wore. But Chicago already wore that black jersey in 2009. So maybe a red version would be a fun way to switch it up.
Detroit should use HOCKEYTOWN instead of DETROIT on the front of the stripe jerseys. The same font and all. Or just find a way to incorporate HOCKEYTOWN on a special jersey. I’m not a fan of third jerseys for Detroit but something like this might work very well.
The Blackhawks should NEVER change their logo. I hate these changes to team names because people who AREN’T indigenous and who DON’T watch sports think that sports teams with native imagery are “racist.” The Blackhawks honor the natives they draw imagery from and have permission. All I ever see from Native Americans is how they want the Indians and redskins back and how we shouldn’t change the Blackhawks. The tomahawk logo is cool but not better than the Blackhawk logo.
2025 Winter Classic: We've seen teams recently use jerseys of the city's past franchises (Pittsburgh, Dallas, Nashville), I predict the Blues will do an Eagles throwback. The NHL has seemed to want to move away from Chicago's primary logo in jersey reveals (last two Reverse Retros). I wouldn't be shocked if they use a wordmark again or the shoulder logo for the primary. 2025 Stadium Series: I think the Jackets will try to cash in on the Ohio-Michigan rivalry this game. I think the jersey will be something related to representing all of Ohio. For Detroit, since the Stadium Series is supposed to be bold, non-traditional, wouldn't be surprised if they use black again since they did for the Reverse Retro.
What’s to forget? This video is about outdoor game jerseys. Global Series isn’t an outdoor game and doesn’t use special jerseys. But for whatever it’s worth, it does include a second city next season with the Sabres and Devils in Prague.
As a Blues fan, I wouldn't mind seeing the Eagles Reunion jersey. That would be sweet. The only Blues jersey I have ever hated in over 50 years, is the yellow ones they had about a year ago. Awful in every way.
Outdoor Red Vs Eagles Reunion for the winter classic. Sorry cant pick any of the columbus concepts, none of them are that good, the white Detroit jersey from 'face the future' is good though. Stadium series jerseys are either pretty good or just a complete mess (like that Avalanche giant A thing or the Smashville garbage for example), we shall just have to wait and see what Fanatics will come up with in their first year.
If the CBJ-DET jerseys lean into the OSU-Michigan rivalry, it would be a travesty. The Blue Jackets are around despite OSU's existence, not because of it. There's a long, ugly history there, and it would be a slap in the face to reference it that overtly. I'd bet there will be former OSU and Michigan football players recognized at the event, and lots of programming around the rivalry. That's perfectly fine and a great idea to draw in new fans, but I hope the jerseys stay away from that pitfall. The cannon jerseys are by far my favorite from CBJ. I'd love to see them push that idea further.
Im from Columbus and it seems to be the consensus that everyone wants the Blue Jackets to wear Ohio State colors and the Red Wings to wear Michigan colors. I personally hate football and hope the 2 sports stay separated, but it seems to be what everyone wants
I think bettman should really start trying to tick the boxes of teams that haven't gotten a winter classic yet. It's boring seeing the same teams over and over again.
The Cleveland Indians were not racist. The Blackhawks are not racist. The name Black Hawk came from the acknowledgement of the U.S. . 86th Infantry Division, or Black Hawk Division. They affectionately used the name Chief Blackhawk, and the Cleveland Indians were named after Louis Sockalexis, a native who played in Cleveland. Instead of changing the team, maybe instead the team should inform the fans what their organizations actually stand for and where they came from. As of now, all this complaining about racism is only making sports less inclusive. Natives should be proud to be seen instead of hidden away, like if they were a rash. No one wanted to see the people acknowledge native history, and the names celebrated native history and American history are now being wiped out. The Native American Guardian Association sued the Washington commanders over the erasure of the Redskins name and had over 150,000 people signed their petition to change it back, the MLB and nfl are not moving forward they are regressing
I would love to see a Hawks jersey use the colors of the Chicago flag one day, I think it’d look good and it’d standout from everything else they’ve ever worn
good gravy, people. it was like a 3-second comment in reference to a widely reported concern (that sure didn’t originate with me) and why they MIGHT (but likely won’t) consider using an alternate logo on a one-time event jersey. i gotta know why so many of you are so triggered over this. one offhand mention in an 18 minute long video? 😅 ... just chill and move on with your day... it’ll be ok
and apologies to you Coach as i don’t mean to pick on you individually here. i’ve just been coming across a lot of comments like this and can’t quite wrap my head around them. have a good one! 👍
@@icetheticsif you didnt want to jam your politics into this, you could have used 'controversial' logo instead of "racist" logo so dont be so surprised. They logo didnt hurt anyone or deprive anyone of their rights. The intent was to honor the fighting spirit of the native Americans, not mock them. They arent racist b/c a certain 'group' says so. Some people just love to throw that word around ... and people arent "triggered" because they voice their opinion on it on a reply.
Well like I said, it’s nothing permanent. And they changed the Winged Wheel-and more dramatically-for the 2014 Winter Classic jersey so it’s not unprecedented.
The local tribes in Illinois still approve of the Blackhawk head so changing the crest is a nonstarter in my opinion. When there’s a national outcry from all indigenous peoples then there can be a conversation until then keep the virtue signaling out of hockey
Great Video Cris these are the concepts I would pick for the 2025 Winter Classic and Stadium Series Chicago’s Centennial Classic, True White, Simplify, and history with a Twist I hope the Blackhawks avoid that black and white crest
The winged wheel on the Face the Future concept is actually a very rare throwback logo that was only used on merch by the Wings back when they played in Olympia. Oddly enough, it’s futuristic in design even for today
While I do fully agree it's dumb we are getting the winter classic again and I would love to see more teams get them, you really can't win with hockey fans. I saw tons of people complain about this year's winter classic saying the new teams didn't deserve it and that it just be old teams. Then you give it to two old teams and people complain. No matter what the NHL does, there will be tons of complaining. I just really hope the hawks finally make an actually good outdoor jersey again. They have had so many chances and the 09 WC is the only good one.
So true. Hockey fans are not a monolith that only think one way. Some people like new and different. Some people like old and traditional. These things are at odds. So no matter which side the league falls on at any given time, one group will be happy and the other will not. That’s just life and it’s all right.
