In this Science (Chemistry) video for class 9 we explained how and why matter change its state, viz., solid, liquid, gas. This is chapter 1 of NCERT Science. We also discussed on laten heats.
By providing heat solid can convert into its liquid state. This process is called melting.
Melting : The change of state from solid to liquid is called melting.
Melting Point : The temperature at which a solid starts melting is called its melting point.
Normal Melting Point: The temperature at which a solid starts melting at atmospheric pressure is called its normal melting point.
The change of state from liquid to solid is called freezing.
By providing heat liquid can convert into its vapour / gaseous state. This process is called vaporisation.
Vaporisation : The change of state from liquid to vapour (or gas) is called vaporisation.
Boiling Point : The temperature at which a liquid starts boiling is known as its boiling point.
Normal Boiling Point : The temperature at which a liquid starts boiling at atmospheric pressure is called its normal boiling point.
The change of state from vapour or gas to liquid is called condensaion.
When a solid directly converts into its gaseous / vapour state, the process is called sublimation.
When a gas directly converts into its solid state, the process is called desublimation or deposition.
Latent heat of fusion is the amount of heat required to change the state from solid to liquid at constant temperature.
Latent heat of vaporisation is the amount of heat required to change the state from liquid to vapour at constant temperature.
