Hey Angel. I've done that once in my early days when I honestly could not afford airbrush paint. It worked.. but not well. There were always a lot of "boogers" in my paint, and I had to do much more cleaning than if I were using airbrush acrylics. Airbrush paint is manufactured at a higher standard, and it meant to be atomized and sprayed. Typical tubes of acrylic paint, on the other hand, are thick and designed to bind to itself. Craft paint dries hard and flaky, where airbrush paint dries with a softer texture, and cleans easier. Thinning it is no exact science, as all brands are different. Water works, or some alcohol, but you don't want to break down your paint to much on a chemical level or it won't bind well to the surface. You'll also want to clean everything completely when you're done, not leave it sitting like I do. Tldr; if you're in a pinch, got for it. Otherwise buy airbrush paint.

If you already have an airbrush, I'd use that. If you're just doing a solid color, and don't have an airbrush, spray can is the way to go

It also very much depends on what it is you're painting, the material and the shape, and the quantity. I know it looks easy in my videos, and others here on youtube, but starting out it is not easy at all! Not even to paint a straight line.

@@DaleTheAirbrushGuy i would like to paint a couple of multilayer mandalas from hdf sheets and each layer should only get 1 color. i have seen that neon paints for the airbrush gun are more expensive than spray cans, do i need less paint for the same result?
