When you become Champion in the games, you're never really treated like a famous celebrity, so I never got why Red would just disappear for three years, but in retrospect, I see why. Great work, as always.
Imagine becoming a boxing or MMA champion and you become undefeatable, that takes all the fun out of the sport and it becomes depressing. Losing only means another goal post to aim for
I had the same feeling as Red, after I captured all the Pokémon and beat all the trainers, I evolved all my little monsters to LVL 100, and after that a "What now?" thought in my head. There was nothing else in the game to do again, so I just sealed him forever in my heart.
This was amazing. The fact that Red no longer wants to be the champion and Surge understanding Reds pain shows how these characters have a strong bond. Amazing job.
"Someone, please take this gold medal away from me." Now, this makes me think that in a future Johto episode, Oak will find out where Red is but doesn't tell anyone except Ethan and Kris. This is what will lead Oak to send them to Mt. Silver, the ultimate battle and convincing Red to return home.
@benniemendez3274 That's true. What I think will happen is once Ethan gets all 16 badges, Oak tells them where he thinks he saw Red and sends them to Mt. Silver.
That almost feels like the canon reasoning. You're told the mountain is dangerous because of the pokemon, but if you're able to beat the E4 you can handle the pokemon. Red would've thrashed us if we went to him right after our first E4 run. The important thing was beating Blue. Beating Blue after clearing Kanto was what made us worthy of taking the challenge, only then was Oak gonna tell the guards to let us through.
Oh. Wow. The art style, the plot without needing words. The lull of the song. Just. Wow. People see Red's success. The myth. The legend. They don't see the real Red, a guy who just got so good after so many trials that people had no choice but to treat with awe, then as an unapproachable standard. The media and the fans are the ones that harmed him the most. In the famous Brazilian words, "Quem vê close, não vê corre". "People see glamour in me and what I've conquered, but they can't see the struggling behind this" and, in Red's case, how much it hurt him.
@@Loner098yes and no. Red seems to be either a little bit of a recluse or is just sorta a sigma male-he doesn’t like too much attention and is comfortable just being with himself or just loved ones-hence why he speaks so little. Gold can definitely handle the spotlight better since he seems to be more outgoing in nature.
Beautiful artwork and story… it’s so normal that the pressure and demands from others breaks Red up, really love how you have humanized these characters.
Dang that’s something else, he didn’t just disappear to train but to escape the game he never wanted. A very interesting and dark take on why Red was up there on Mt. Silver, love the lack of color as well as if to say that the joy has drained from everyone’s world
I've got chills. So glad we got to see some immediate aftermath of Red's disappearance. Not to mention confirmation of the "why". Love your storytelling!
I love the surge bit, too, by the way. He understands that Red has enough attention as it is and doesn't want him to feel even more pain. He's very respectful, it's wonderful.
This is superb storytelling ,in game you never really question how or why Red is at mt. Silver but the fact that its due to pressure of fame really feels emotional.
I can feel what he's going through. Now he's been put on a pedestal of an unbeatable legend- something he feels he can't live up to. He just wants people to see him for the person he really is, like they used to.
@@Raylightsen He didn't say it was a manga. :/ Honestly... there are tons of other things in black and white as well as monochrome that can't be limited to manga. :T
Emotions are felt all through this one. You really displayed how much Red lost the feeling of normalcy in his life and Surge knew this all too well. Being champion forever changed him and you as a story writer have depicted this amazingly man!
This was a masterpiece & made me cry! So powerful & nostalgic to see this side of Red. We all know him as a battling legend but we also see how he’s the Pokémon world’s hero (before his eventual fateful encounter at the summit of Mt. Silver) by the impact he’s had on everyone he’s ever met in his life from helping Oak complete his dream of filling the Pokédex, to being a worthy and unbeatable rival for Gary to aspire to taking down, to being a mentor to Green, to positively helping the gym leaders, to taking down Team Rocket & Giovanni, to inspiring countless trainers like Silver & Ethan in Johto, to his relationship with Misty as his girlfriend, to his friendship with Lt. Surge & Koga. Our hero Red may be gone but he’ll never be forgotten as he’ll live on in the memories of his friends/allies, foes/rivals, the E4 & Oak family, & of course us! Gosh I hope when Ethan finally battles Red atop Mt. Silver & we reach that point once more after years of getting to that point again, can we hope that our suffering hero Red finally get his peace & life back! This would be the only reason why I would want Red to lose so that his spirit can be set free from the trauma & stress he’s endured from being the best like no one ever was. It’s lonely literally & figuratively speaking being at the top. Red finally deserves that peace after winning the respect & admiration & fear of many trainers & helping countless people along the way.
I think my favorite part of this video is Surge. He saw the poster and he knew. He understood Red's pain. So dark but also so so good. I love the art direction too. No colors.
Good in-game explanation. Guess he got tired of being the big fish. I like to think of Red as us, the old school gamer. Living our pokemon experiences through Red because we were Red. Pedro, your Red Series shows that perfectly; from our "shock" at using thundershock on Brock's Geodude and nothing happens to learning we have one more opponent after Lance in our rival Blue before we truly become champion. What a ride! I personally have played through the 1st and 2nd generations, so I'm looking forward how you animate Gold's adventures. Wishing you the best on all your future projects.
Man.. I couldn't figure out anything at start but now I get it... Red doesn't want the undefeatable title... so he's looking for strong trainers to battle.... and we know.. Gold/Ethan is the chosen one for that....
That's why I'm sooo hyped for every episode of the Gold serie, and why the whole Red serie from Pedro is the Best Pokémon fanmade content to ever exist in Earth Love you man ! ❤
this is shows that even when you became the best pokemon champion and undefeatable to that point that you don't want to stay as the best pokemon champion. Alot of people will come and take pictures of you and never giving you the space you need, i guess it's also how people who became famous too. I'm glad that you shown Leaf, Misty and Surge's thoughts and views about this. Really enjoy your videos
That's an interesting take as to why Red isolated himself the way he did after Gen-1, and certainly poetic in the way that it took Gold to bring the joy of battling back into his life... And the fame of being unbeatable, away. I always thought it was just Red being power obsessed, ignoring all others for the pursuit of power at the top of the area with the strongest wild pokemon. Great video as always, looking forward to the next!
Another banger from you Pedro. You paint Red’s loneliness perfectly and it’s a great reason why he flew off to Mt Silver all these years. Also a great connection to the Gold series :)
After fought him finding his own path, red felt like his life is missing from the journeys they went it. But now his heart has torn from the sky with no regrets.😢
this has me hyped for the last episode of pokemon gold. You've already animated that fight once, im excited to see a new recreation with all of the skills you've gained since then. Keep going Pedro!
This reminds me of X from the manga, who went in a similar direction where he got so good he couldn’t live his life anymore since he was a superstar in battling. This really shows the dark side of fame & what it can cost you, especially as a kid & teen.
That is really interesting. You would think that he stayed on Mount Silver just because of training, but because he’s too famous, that means he’s stuck there…permanently.
God damn I love how well you explained red leaving like that. Why he chose to sit on top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere. So few words but so much emotion!!
That makes me feel better about the opinion that Red lost to -Gol- Ethan. He knew he isn't the strongest and don't like how people treated him. The defeat against Ethan gave him the option to return and stay among friends until becoming the very best in Kanto and Johto and going on a World adventure.
Amazing! I would love to see u do a series if Reds story after gold/silver. Kind of the ‘what if ash(red) grew up’ story that the anime would never give us!
Man, very powerful storytelling. The art here really conveys how the world has lost color to Red, that he's drowning while having so much pressure placed on top of him. He wants to go back to his life and the people he loves, but the near constant interrupting from people over the fame he's gotten just won't leave him be, and even Pokemon battling is losing the fun it once had for him. He wants a loss to make it end. We saw things turn out well in flashforwards, but it's still heavy to see. Hopefully Gold will be able to deliver a battle that will be fun again.
God, this is yes, in the background we normally see red and if he is strong and quiet and nothing else, but here he gives a whole background of why it is so and if you put yourself in his situation, he is someone who only wants to recover his life, he never wanted to be that "invincible champion" and he asks you for help to defeat him and recover his life, this leaves me very excited to see the red and gold fight
Epic storytelling as always. The tone of this episode really makes me feel Red's emotions, his frustration and sadness. Pedro once again proves that he too is the undefeatable master.
Once again...pure MASTERPIECE !!! I love this narration about Red. I hope you'll give him rest and peace again with his mother and Misty that would be great to say farewell to him after Ash.
Pedro you are literally ripping my heart out of my chest, this is so so SO beautiful. This hit me so hard that my eyes are watering but I can’t drop one tear, and what hurt me the most is that see red remembering the good and sad moments from the adventure he had, and now he hide himself from the world abandoning his friends and love ones. You out done this one Pedro. 😢
I will be waiting for the final episode and chapter to gold journey... where Gold finds Red and have a emotional final battle on mt silver... i will be expecting some emotional story between them 2 and something to tear about ❤
He became the very best that no one ever was So many years so many quest the lessons we were taught The places around the world The lows and the highs.. The generation that won't forget The power that's inside
OOOh Now This is an interesting idea, The most common theory is that Red left on purpose to train or that he was bored of the lack of strong trainers. But this is probably the mouse unique beautifully crafted idea not just for the official lore, but for your series as a whole. Your storytelling is Genius!
I love it! Red is just a normal person like us who don't care about fame or glory! Like he said, he want his life back to normal again but he doesn't know how. Life is unfair sometimes!
This is phenomenal. The storytelling is great as always, the art style showed that color isn’t always needed, and I really enjoyed the choice of music; an orchestration of S.S. Anne, one of the most beautiful pieces of music from the first generation. I think I can understand how Red feels: He wanted to be a Pokémon Trainer… not a Pokémon Master. And I don’t think I’m calling him a Pokémon Master ever again.
Very good this one is, we know red didn't mean to hurt his friends and family from disappearing but the burden of being famous and no longer having a normal life became to taxing on him mentally. Gold will be that one person to help him so can't wait to see until thay day comes in this animation
So he welcomed Gold, because he wanted to be done with the taxing job of staying famous. I’ve never been famous and while I have a desire to become famous I understand how much of a burden the job of a champion can be based on people I’ve met. Get too arrogant, people hate you and want to take you down, stay too shy, people try to force you to stay. Do the bare minimum, people demand you do more than you have, it can be a lose-lose win situation for the wrong people, but then theres those that soar high and stay happy despite the challenges. Great story telling as usual, and can’t wait to see the next gold episode in two weeks.
Red being so lonely after getting everything he wanted and what could be achieved is like we players, when we managed to finish pokémon red, catch all pokemon and etc. We just stopped playing the game just like Red
Cara, fica tao nítido a dor do Red nesse clipe.
You truly know and understand these games and the lore. Not just that, you have expanded so much on the story. You are doing such a great job with these videos. 🙏 Thanks
I think this what everyone feels like and they just don't know how to express it. Non the less this was very well written and very well told look forward to your future videos
Red é simplesmente fantástico. Essa anmiação nos mostra a dor que Red está sentindo, não só por cores como animação. Vídeo esplêndido. Bom fim de semana, Pedro.
Wow.... it's crazy how much Red has been through in the 3 years since he defeated Blue and became Champion and before Gold came along to challenge him. Other than that... man... outdid yourself with this video, Pedro. :) Love the animation style for it. ^^
This was a good reason why Red went to mount Silver. Because he felt the pain inside him and he saw everything that happened to poor Pokémon that are suffering and pain from Team Rocket 8 years ago
