That videos was dead dead less than a 100 views per years. Funny how thing come back from the dead. It needs to be updated at some point, but have way too many projects at this time. mostly just getting the railroad back into a running shape. NMRA must be hurting for content to go that for back and republish it :)

You may be well aware of this, but seeing the area you model, I thought I'd mention a great industry to model in Maricopa: Pinal Feeding Company. They have their own very long siding with two tracks on the receiving side, off the double-track main. It's the largest cattle feed lot in Arizona. They have several large grain silos and they receive frequent hopper unit trains. Also on site there's a feed company and an ethanol plant that take grain in bulk also. I worked for over 25 years for the radio station who's transmitter site is located on the south part of the lot, between rows of feed pens. You can also model that tower, which is over 500' high.

It's KVIT, licensed to the East Valley Institute of Technology. The site was originally built for KLVA, Educational Media Foundation and they leased tower and building space to KVIT. KLVA has since moved from that site. If someone were to model the tower in scale, it couldn't go on a lower level of a layout... it's 500' tall!

Thanks OP, Looks like when planning a layout and using staging a person would need to decide how many trains will be staged or else the staging yard will not be large enough to hold the rolling stock. On my layout I prepared for staging but I can already see that I need more tracks. Luckily their not built yet. Showing how to use staging was a great idea we can see it in action. In my case staging will represent an interchange so the engine will leave the Fulco yard travel down to the interchange and bring back the freight. So I will not have added engines staged just rolling stock. Thanks for your time to put this series together.

Oh Yeah, they have home made sauerkraut in a barrel. Always brown mustard with it. I just picked up a pair of white boards made by "Elmers" at Michaels clearance Isle. It's their foam board with one shiny surface. Works great for notes while filming.

Thanks for the video, sure looks like fun. Loved your sausage analogy! It almost appears that your trans go from one staging to another w/o switching?? But that probably is not the case since your focus is on staging. I'm planning a layout now and this makes me think how to add staging so to cause it to feel real and not just running the same cars back and forth between the same buildings....thanks!

No, they do stop at a yard to peel of the local cars then get moved to the next yard. So the do see both Old Pueblo Yard and La Grange Yard before going back into staging. OPY is a SP yard. SP staged cars going to PHX will head out to north PHX staging from OPY. Video coming up that should help.

Great video and liked it so much that I actually went and purchased both MiTrains and Waybills back in either late Feb. or early March. I think I have the hang of MiTrains but not so much with Waybills. Can you do a walk through video sometime explaining how you setup Waybills for your layout? Thanks!

Excellent. Makes me want to get going on the car card pockets I've put off forever. Can't wait for the car classifying video. One heads-up. Mobile, Alabama is pronounced Mo-BEEL, not mobile like a hanging sculpture. I've lived near Mobile for almost 60 years. If you say mo-bill in Mobile, people grit their teeth and shake their heads.lol.

IMRROcom Mobile comes from a Creek indian name for the area, Maubila. We know perfectly well how to pronounce the name of our own city. The rest of you have trouble with it. I can only tell you how it's pronounced correctly.

Thanks a lot for this video. If I have correctly understood the consist of the train DOES NOT change in the staging, it goes back in the layout with the same cars it came from, correct? I then suppose with the coming classification in the the layout that consist will change (due to the cards cycling) and at the next entering in the staging it will be completely different, it has left cars in the layout and picked up new ones, correct? I developed my own Operation system that save me to track a card for each car but I am still fascinated by this system and by who is able to manage it

In my case no. The train is not touched when in staging. Waybills are adjusted for what is needed to work the industries on the layout. The cars that are not used become bridge traffic. Let us say I need a hopper of sand at next Ops session. I see I have no 35 covered hoppers billed for the the with sand. I look for a covered hopper that can carry sand in staging pulling the waybill and replacing it with the waybill for sand. most trains on my layout in and out of staging are 18 car and about 25% will naturally have waybills to online/layout industries. If I need more cars I just convert the waybills in staging on the bridge cars to what is need for on layout operations.

Eric, I have a question for you about something you said in a video years ago regarding power/locomotives and train lengths. Years ago in a video you said you have a system where a train length is determined by the number of axels on the locomotive +1 on GPs and +2 on SDs, is that rule for your personal railroad you have or in general? I ask this because of the train you used in the video would be under powered.

Good catch and yes it was under powered. It did not want to make it up the helix and had a hard time getting up a few of the inclines. I use that rule for my layout just to make sure trains get up the 2% grades on the layout. On a flat layout you can have more cars per axle, not problem but on the grades you get wheel slip. I normally run the engines in pairs too. Now why was it like this? The other engine that was pared up with this 8013 was acting up. :)
