You'll need to clear that rock near your defenses. You will need a lot more space to expand the defenses as bug intensity grows. Building the defenses outward with more space allows the bugs to all get in there easily. Also building them like that requires a wall with space on the sides so that they don't try to take a shortcut through your flamethrowers.
Yes, I’m still learning. Thanks for your great advice. It is build in progress. I have concentrated on getting a building up before winter which I have just managed to keep my survivors warm. I will concentrate on defences next
