I think the real reason is that he feared losing because he has small hands and can't create (he actually recently admitted that he's not that creative, but didn't mention his tiny hands however) But of course he then claimed that he would win if he did the contest. This is similar to him saying recently he could shoot 50-40-90 if he wanted to and win the scoring title every year as well. But even worse is that in a hypothetical all-time dunk contest, he chose Vince Carter, Zach Lavine, Dominique and himself as the contestants. Not MJ not Gordon, not Dr. J - himself.
