In the early hours of March 26, 2024, Baltimore faced a devastating tragedy as the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed following a collision with the Singapore-flagged container ship Dali. This video features real-time scanner radio traffic from Police, Fire, and EMS during the chaotic aftermath of the catastrophic event.
Originally known as the Outer Harbor Crossing and later renamed to honor Francis Scott Key, author of the "Star Spangled Banner," the Key Bridge stood as a vital link in Maryland Route 695, boasting a main span of 1,200 feet (366 m). As a designated hazardous materials truck route, it played a crucial role in ensuring safe passage for vehicles carrying HAZMATs.
Operated by the Maryland Transportation Authority, the Key Bridge was an integral part of Baltimore's transportation network, carrying an estimated 11.5 million vehicles annually. The toll facility, integrated with the E-ZPass system, transitioned to cashless tolling in October 2019 to enhance efficiency.
As authorities investigate the incident, this video provides a glimpse into the initial moments of chaos and response from emergency services. Our thoughts are with the affected individuals and their families during this difficult time.
