I am not saying it’s the right move for everyone’s financial situation but Xtool has partnered with Affirm which if you qualify you can pay your machine off over 18 months. I used Affirm back in 2018 when I purchased my first CNC Machine. xTool P2 Machine www.xtool.com/products/xtool-p2-55w-co2-laser-cutter?ref=Chadscustom&

Did you try calibrating camera in lightburn? Think i've bought at least 10 cameras trying to get it perfect on polar. For the wood test; may want to measure moisture in wood and reduce. Toast / warm it a bit first and dry it out; make sure shop or wood storage humidity is low.

So what would you recommend between this and an RMlaser? I have an old eBay 60w laser that I'd like to upgrade, it's slow and definitely doesn't seem like a true 60w. I primarily make leather patches for hats, but I do a little of everything. Shop size is not an issue, and the RMlaser I'm looking at is similar in price.

I'm sure as usual I'll end up throwing mods on it, as I sorta feel that small vent-fan in the rear might "work" but how..good? I'm a hobbiest that just creates/builds for my own use. Never really got into profiting off tools, usually more a "Sure I can do that for you" for free type cuz its fun. At most I had someone pay me a meal-run to fiber laser clean rust off a tool. But other than that, I just dont desire/care to make profits. That said, I Think I've seen enough videos on the P2 to upgrade my X-Tool 40W Optical 445nm laser into a CO2 P2, and ditch the 445nm finally. CO2 will pair nicely with the fiber laser. Natural materials on one. Metallics on the other. Thanks for the review! Got a laser to buy..

@ChadsCustomCreations
@ChadsCustomCreations Год назад
Right? Those features feel so futuristic I love them. That is a tough question I would say if you have the space for the Co2, and are not scared of aligning those mirrors I would go with saving the money and putting it towards the Co2, you get clear acrylic cutting engraving and glass engraving with no prep with the Co2 wavelength, but everyone’s needs and situations are definitely different.

I've a Glowforge Pro too (in Italy)... and I'd like to know if it's the moment of upgrading it... or would it be a downgrade? For me the precision and quality of the produced pieces is the most important thing (and the GF produces excellent artifacts). The GF Pro in Europe is nearly 10K€... but the build quality and design is awesome (and smaller than the P2). What I really miss is a serious air assist for quick jobs... and the ability to so precisely center the engraving! That rice test is incredible... More... I like a lot the thinking attitude of xtool... with continuous improvements in hw and (local) sw. Hopefully XCS will be released for iPadOS too (as I can control my GF from my iPad, too).

The built in air assist and fan is pretty good if you don’t have a lot of bends in the pipe it may do okay. You can add an inline fan to make it even stronger. Well I guess it depends on the neighbors but if engraving or cutting wood the pipe going out the window is bellowing smoke and smell and might upset the neighbors if they are too close.

Hey, no I don’t think a Co2 is too advanced for a beginner if you are a hands on type of person adjusting the focus if even needed and keeping things clean really isn’t a problem. Just know there is a difference between diode vs co2. diodes do get more consistent dark engravings on materials, Co2 lasers are quick though they don’t always get as dark and consistent engravings depending on the materials because they kind of vaporize the material.

Can this laser cutter be safely kept/used inside the house, or is it better to have it function in a garage? What are the ventilation requirements for the machine?
@ChadsCustomCreations

I know a lot of people who use machines like these indoors, just make sure the ventilation is running well and you should be okay. It has a built in ventilation fan that is more powerful then I have ever seen on a machine in this size.

Chad, your review of the D1 10 watt convinced me to pull the trigger on it. My machine paid for itself shortly after a few months. I had no experience with anything laser related prior to it. Now I have a small steady side hustle. My question to you is this, how does the laser vent the smoke? Is there a built-in fan or did you use an inline fan?
@ChadsCustomCreations
@ChadsCustomCreations Год назад
Derek that’s so great to hear! Yes I forgot to cover it but it does have a built in fan rated at 145 CFM even when attempting to cut that walnut and maple the smoke was blasting out quickly and efficiently. Based on what I’ve seen with the weak fans the Omtech and Gweike have this fan actually gets the smoke out like it should.

I am not sure specifically what Xtool says but I believe you want to keep water temps between 15-25c for running. But Xtool does send an antifreeze that you add to the machine water to keep the water from freezing which can potentially crack that glass laser tube.

While I'd love to have a red dot for framing, I don't think it's that much of an issue not having one for alignment. Sure it would make things easier, but it's not something you have to do every week, do you? And even for framing it doesn't seem to be necessary since you seem to be able to get really accurate positioning with the secondary camera. What do you think about slats vs honeycomb?
@ChadsCustomCreations
@ChadsCustomCreations Год назад
Yeah you are right with how good the cameras are red dot is definitely not needed, but would be as easy as a software update if they did want to add it since they already have one mounted for height detection. The red dot accessory I was referring to is actually for adjusting the mirrors in real time from the nozzle to the tube, just makes things way easier I am just afraid newbies are going to get really frustrated with that initial set up and get discouraged. I like the slats all my big machines have them and I use them most of the time especially when cutting as it has less chance of flashback causing burning in the backside of your materials.
@ulaB
@ulaB Год назад
@@ChadsCustomCreations I have thought about the height detection dot for framing, but this would not work because it is mounted at an angle, isn't it? I'm pretty sure they determine the height by how far it moves and can triangulate the distance from there. I'll be a newbie when I get the machine, so we'll see if I can handle the mirror adjustment ;-)
@ChadsCustomCreations
@ChadsCustomCreations Год назад
@@ulaB you’ll get it I can tell you’re smart so the mirrors will make sense for you no problem. It actually has two red dot pointers one up in the top right corner at an angle but also has one mounted under the head unit that moves around. So with a simple offset and software update that could be used for framing like they do on the D1 pro models.
@ulaB
@ulaB Год назад
@@ChadsCustomCreations Yeah, I've played enough laser/mirror maze games in my time ;-) Even the one under the head unit needs to be at an angle if they use to measure material thickness. If it pointed straight down, it would not show any difference. It is an interesting method to use, because it should not work with clear materials unless they are reflective?

I see what you are saying but I will say Co2 vs blue diode laser they both have their own advantages. I'll admit, the features are great, but as usual, they are extremely overpriced for consumers. Sadly, they are still using low quality laser tubes and mirrors. You are basically paying 2000$ for shipping software. The cooling system is sub par, and being locked into their software to use the features is a gimmic. If this company really wanted a consumer audience, they would work with the popular sw companies to integrate the support they provide and also sell a product with better hardware. This laser is being sent out in hopes to nab a few 1 off customers but geared at businesses that do not know better or want a mini laser farm. Not including the software or time, an identical laser built with better quality parts would cost about 2k currently. Yes it would not look as nice, but 3000$ extra just so you don't have to alignment your work is insane. Also any business that would be using lasers, will definitely be concerned about time and ensure to align everything well to get the most bang for their buck. In short... great idea, horrible price, wrong targeted market. Use better hardware and reduce the price by 50% and then you will be in the right audience and market.
