Agree with you on the late summer conditions, here in Nashville the rain has been much better than the past few summers and has taken a little of the pressure off the dearth. I'm a big fan of the JZBZ battery box for cages and cell transport...thanks.

Hey Baddest and Paula I am more than capable of driving myself nuts without anybody's help! I am too ambitious sometimes and I am trying to do better about not going overboard. This time last year I had constant twitching in both eyes and digestive problems that were purely stress related. Lasted for months. I had to back off this year a bit. For my sake and the families sake. However, I am working towards making this channel and my experiments more of a priority next year than just being a beekeeper. I am going to drop to 250 colonies and do less just at a higher level. (that's the theory anyways) I do appreciate you both and hope your family and your bees are well. -Kamon

I never thought of doing it that way even though i used to get queens shipped to me in boxes like that.Now they are just shipping in single cages.I raise most all my queens now days and I think I will go to that for transporting between yards.

I viewed a video (foreign) that showed using stinging nettle branches 8-10" (2-3) per hive. Placed on top of frames. Kept there for 3-4 days. Stinging nettle has a natural formic acid within itself that organically treats varoa.

Kamon thanks for the video! Im in my second season grafting in Australia and I may need to bank some Queens (hopefully due to being so good at grafting lol). Off topic question - I'm assuming that's sugar syrup behind you? How does it not ferment being in a big tank for a long time?
@kamonreynolds
@kamonreynolds Год назад
Thanks VizslaB! That syrup in the back is sucrose sugar (white refined) that is inverted and condensed to the thickness of honey. This makes it stable for quite some time. I try to use it up in a years time though as fresher is best for the bees. In order to use it I dilute it with water to make 1:1 or 2:1 Best of luck on your queens!!

@kamonreynolds 3 года назад
First of Sept
@FloryJohann
@FloryJohann 3 года назад
I made a split here in N.C last week and I am planning to make one more this week and it is kinda late even for my area, it all depends where you are and your season. This time of the year the colonies are starting to get rid of drones and you need a lot of drones for a queen to get mated properly, the more drones are around the better queen you will make. But also you have to be able for the colony to build up numbers so they have enough bees to keep the colony warm in winter.
@mmb_MeAndMyBees
@mmb_MeAndMyBees 2 года назад
While you still have Drones (Boy Bees) to get that Queen Mated... And to back Date approx x5 Weeks to get a good laying pattern, to raise all important Winter Bees. Population build up takes about two sequences of laying. Nurse / Worker Bees hatch after "21Days", so you thinking minimum of x42 Days before so. x50 days to be safe ! 🤞 So go by local weather conditions : Autumn Flow, first Frosts, etc... 😏

Get pheremones on day 5 ,best to introduce before then,if you wait past day 7 they don't ever take mating flight slot of time,u need bees feeding queens,u wanna bank to buy u a day or two,NOT a week or more...longer banked equals more probs even with mated queens
@kamonreynolds

Hello Dim Mar. These are mated queens. I am not very experienced when it comes to virgin banking. I really don't like fooling with virgins if I can help it as they are much more fragile than a mated queen.

@@chrisskaar6563 illinois is a tall state. I'm in the middle. Southern Illinois has spring way before me. Chicago has spring about a month after me. Where I'm at in general splitting in August or even late July would be dumb. That's usually a dearth here. I don't think I'd split during a dearth.

Yes, but above a Super and an extra Queen Excluder. Brood QE Super QE Banked Queens spacer Box with Feeder Crown Board Roof. Tip : You want the Banked Queens to be near enough for Nurse Bees to feed them but furthest away from the Resident Queen, so all those Cages don't over flood the lower Hive with Pheremones making Old Queen decide to Swarm ! 🤞
