I really appreciate that you take the time to explain what's going on. Me and my oldest son which is almost 23 just started our venture into beekeeping. It has brought mine and his relationship to new highs. Thank you for teaching!!!

That is what we love to hear. My dad and I are buddies and even though we don't do bees together we work with each other all the time and it is a special 1 of a kind relationship! My son Jimmy and I are starting to do the same. Keep up the good work Dad, the hours are long and the pay is low, but the value is great!

Well done, I missed a queen cell 4 days ago and my bees swarm yesterday that was the best colony in my park and expected to get honey from that hive now it will be tough but maybe I take honey from both there is still time until june.I will apply your method shaking the frames on the hive so it will be clearer to look and destroy new cells.Thanks for the video.

Nice video. I do the same when brood single honey bound make room. Was watching Randy Oliver and he said something I never thought of or thought why hive prepares to swarm. Of course no room for the queen has no room. And he stated how the hive knows start queen cells is there isn’t enough uncapped larva and eggs that release pheromones. So had a thought if you added open brood would that ultimately change the hives mind to build queen cells as well as having lots of room. As I have given queen tons of drawn comb and they still make q cells they seem to be relentless sometimes. Just a thought.

Im not sure who the research was by, but i have seen recently that eggs laid into queen cells are larger and heavier than normal eggs suggesting a superior queen. Seen in the british beekeeping magazine.

I just said something last week to my bee mentor about crushing queen cups. He told me that crushing them would not stop them from swarming. He said that once she lays the eggin the cup she's done made her mind up to leave the hive. I could see it both ways, what's your thoughts on that?
@kamonreynolds
@kamonreynolds 2 месяца назад
There is a point where the hive must be split. The video shows cells that are still within the range of control. Yes they will try again very soon but with proper attention we can keep this colony together and make big honey.
@tonyhill3638
@tonyhill3638 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the video, Reynolds! How long ago did you split them? My bees are really stubborn. If there are charged queen cells, they like to swarm whether I remove the cells or not, and regardless of laying space. If I catch them before they are charged, no problem, but once they trigger the swarm instinct, they are leaving 3 out of 4 times. Gotta pull the queen and put her in a nuc at that point. I just spent this morning organizing comb to give laying space, but mostly, everything was good. Haven't lost any swarms this year so far, which is a first. Thanks for posting!

Kamon, Awful glad to see you in the bees. That L box where you had the q cell so high on the frame, good quality queen. Enough capped brood so that you could have taken her and allowed a supersedure to take place. That box will still swarm. Now, sir, Kamon R. You really got me when you put those two frames in with the middle dead-outs you ascribed as varroa and mold. If you had had a little spray gun filled with 50-50, with even maybe a drop of peppermint, and sprayed those frames, you could have helped the bees by a full day. As it is the bees will turn their proboscis up at the frames until the frames get the swarm's smell. You ought to sell me that nuc! How much?

Question, Once qc is capped.....does hive swarm same day? Another question, i caught a large swarm (5 frames of bees) two weeks ago, laying worker, no queen? Does a virgin queen swarm find no home then she goes out to mate and possibly didn't return? This one is new to me , thanks
@sunduck1
@sunduck1 3 месяца назад
Kamon, I purchased a large freezer to put capped honey frames in to store honey before I extract them. Someone told me not to do this as the honey will crystallize. Is this true? The freezer has a refrigerator mode as well. Or I can unplug the freezer and store them in there dry. Which option is best? Frozen, Refrigerated, or in the freezer unplugged and Dry?

Hi, how do you avoid bees stinging your hands without gloves?
@LaraLovesBees
@LaraLovesBees 3 месяца назад
In my experience, calm bees and being very gentle with the frames (no banging). You still get stung once in awhile but you get very used to it. It doesn't bother me anymore to get stung on the hands and I don't even remember where I was stung after 5 minutes. It's when you get stung anywhere near the crotch that really hurts! 😲 😆

You take the queen (or queen cells) and lots of nurse bees. The nurse bees have never been outside the hive so they will do orientation flights from the new location even if right next to the original colony. The older forager bees will go back to the original colony.
