Hands down, the best ACR/PS tutorials on the web....I'm only 2 years into editing and anytime I find myself asking, "I wonder how I could..." I always find a solution here. As I've gotten more confident (and, hopefully) better, I come back again and again for 'what's new.' Thanks Blake!... from an old(er) photographer.
Glad it was helpful! It was definitely my favorite addition to the Adobe suite. Photoshop got some small updates, nothing major that I'd write home about, unfortunately. More selection stuff and a decent delete and content fill, but nothing workflow changing.
What are your favorite new features in Photoshop or Adobe Camera Raw? Don't like any of the new features, okay, what's your favorite Fall candle scent?
Amazing! Thank you so much Blake! I"m just updating my camera Raw workflow, thank you for passionately talking about the new added feature! Stay always energetic and you know you inspire the world the way you teach and resolve the matters. Always I wish you nothing but the best! God bless you and all your dear ones!
@@f64Academy You're welcome and thank you so much for your very wonderful wishes! I'm so happy for you to hear that and please stay always healthy and motivated to inspire the world!
Thank you so much for this one! I literally said the words "oh wow", out loud when you pointed out the new section which allows us to change the look of very specific areas of a person. I wonder if that could ever happen with the 'select and mask' workspace in PS or indeed the main PS interface where we use layer masks, as I can think of a fair few situations where that could prove useful. Incidentally, your excitement in showing all of these new things to us, is highly relatable. Like you, I do not (EVER, in my own case) use Lightroom - I hate it with an indescribable passion - so your focus on and enthusiasm for ACR is, in itself, hugely appreciated.
gosh - wish I'd seen this yesterday! did a short presentation last night to our camera club about the new people masking in LR, but if I'd known about THIS..... *head explodes* thanks Blake :)
Actually Adobe is bringing so many powerful development lately through which anyone create just magic. Now the question is what is the limit that should not be crossed during processing that needs to understand which is really very important.
Hi Blake. There is one thing worth to mention: new version of ACR (currently 15.1.1, my OS is W11) came in with one huge bug. When RAW is exported to Photoshop, the colors became less saturated. It happens especially when you work with wider color space then sRGB. More over - when PS layer is opened in ACR (as filter), the colors will become more saturated. Only way to fix this is to install ACR in version 14.5. The reason is that the ACR in current version utilizes built-in color profile to display image instead of synchronize it with OS/monitor ICC. As I discussed this issue with helpdesk - this bug will be fixed with high priority. For now is better to avoid doing tasks where color reproduction is important.
Unfortunately, curves inside masks are not available in Lightroom Classic 12.0. There are only the other new options. If you use ACR or the ACR filter in Photoshop instead of Lightroom, the new feature will be there.
Blake is right - there will always be a reason to visit PS if you're a LR user. For now. But at some point, why wouldn't Adobe add that curve panel to LR. They may. Many people have said that when you're in masking mode in LR that you get a specific panel of controls, rather than full access to the Edit mode panels (ie: vibrance, HSL, etc). Perhaps that's next.
I loved to apply brush from one angle to the other in pic, to fake a ray of light … is much more spread out (from a smaller brush to a larger holding shift key) is outstanding … and subtracting subject, so working only on background …. Ok I stop bothering 😂
I am just as exited as You are. But I also learned that there are some HDR features in the Mac version that we dont have in the WIN version. Lets hope that soon arrives in the Win also - otherwise it is not win but loose😕
Fabulous explanation of using curves with Masking in PS. It's as if you were looking at some of my sunsets from Africa and needed to improve. Spot on. One question is that I notices on your Curves you use a "Custom" curve. What is the custom generated curve that you start out with. Thanks again. David
Thanks! Great new feature 😎 it's custom because I moved the curve instead of using a curve predefined preset or the sliders for it. It's just a custom point movement.
@@f64Academy Thank you for actually replying and doing it quickly. Keep up the excellent work. The presentations are very professional and tell something about you.
Hi Blake. I must admit I am not a LR user but a Capture One, one. I envy the nearly perfection of the masks in Adobe. They are awesome and I would love having something similar in C1 Thanks
Honestly it's about time Adobe added some magic considering people can do on their phones now what used to only be able to be done on PS. I was starting wonder what the point of my subscription was for. Lets hope they add more ground breaking features as well keeping up with the other editing apps.
I don't know..I edit a lot of images and I still think everything pales in comparison to PS. Those other apps are good for the short term but not for extensive editing. PS will still reign in that regard.
I just watched almost the identical video except the subject was “Lightroom”. LR is basically just another interface to ACR. I wish Adobe would take this same concepts and apply them to video.
Lightroom doesn't have curves right now in masks 😔 you can use ACR to edit video. I do it on short b roll clips all the time. I wouldn't use it on big files though.
Thanks I just downloaded this version last night and look forward to playing with it. One question about masks though is it possible to affect the edges of the masks at all for example, feather, expand or contract?
Another exciting teaching video Blake, thanks. With all the color editing you share it seems to me like there could be an application for using colors to enhance images of the Milky Way core. There are people that Astro modify their camera to enhance colors of nebulae. With your color expertise I would think there are ways to mimic Astro modified camera colors using ACR and or PS. Does this seem practical?
Thanks for the amazing way of introducing such important new features ! I immediately downloaded the last version of Lightroom Classic (12.0) and Camera RAW 15.0 to try the "curves inside masks" feature but even though it's there in Camera RAW, I don't see the same functions in LR. Am I missing something ? I thought that since LR is based on Camera RAW it would work exactly the same, but I guess I was wrong... :( If someone knows why there are differences, I'm really interested ! :)
I'm interested too. I would imagine it has something to do with the code? I think they will eventually put it in there. Many will be asking I am sure! From someone who ahs developed many products, I do NOT envy their inbox right now!
When I create a background mask and change the colour of the background, when I return to photoshop after clicking done, none of my edited colour changes are showing... how do I see my edits from camera raw once back in the photoshop editor screen?

Thanks, Blake for the precious infos. I'd like to confirm: that possibility to use Curves in a mask is available only in ACR, not in Lightroorm, correct? Thanks for your time. Best regards from Rio de Janeiro/Brazil.
Hi, in Camera Raw 15 its not saving masks. There is no "Open" button, just an "ok" button. I dont know whats going on, but the masks just are not coming into photoshop. It's weird
@@f64Academy thank you, I'm not talking about a luminance mask, but changing the luminance on a mask ! Maybe it's the equivalent of adjusting the middle of the curve though...
@@f64Academy I'm not talking about the currently available luminance masks, I wish to be able to adjust the luminance of any mask with a slider. Currently we can only adjust the saturation of a mask, not even the vibrance.
Not much changed in this version of Bridge. Actually, I haven't seen much change in Bridge other than performance and speed updates. However, the last version saw Workflows added to it, I did a video on that a few months ago.
This version did see some pretty sweet new features, I just looked. Tabs (multiple content windows) that is awesome! And rearrange any panels. Very cool. I may have to do a Bridge video soon.
Blaaaake ! With your luminosity masks will be a paradise experience to edit photos on Lr or camera Raw… but still spot removal is a lack … we have to be honest… none (Lr or Camera Raw) can work as Ps
I actually like spot removal in ACR. I find myself using that quite often. Specifically for dust and sensor spots, but the harder stuff, yes, PS all the way.
Hello Blake. Thanks for sharing the information. But I'm unable to find Camera Raw 15 on Adobe's website. Has it been launched already or it will take some time to be available on the website??? But found a download link in a third party website. Will it be safe to download from there?
Don't use a 3rd party, ever! Spam and could be detrimental to the health of your machine. Adobe creative cloud app. Logout of it, then log back in and you will see the updates there.
If Camera Raw 15 doesn’t appear in your Creative Cloud app, you probably can’t install it. The reason: Both Adobe and Apple support only the last three versions of macOS. As both Apple and Adobe do with each year’s upgrades, they’ve advanced Mac system support by one major version, dropping the oldest. This year, macOS 10.15 Catalina is the one to be dropped. Apple will probably stop update support for Catalina when they release macOS 13 Ventura, which might happen next week. At that point, the versions Apple and Adobe support will be the three most recent: macOS 11, 12, and 13.
i ask my selfs: why in the world is Lightroom 12.00 (remote control (if you will) for ACR 15.0) not having the same controls (eg. Curves) as ACR 15.0??. Now my workflow looks kind of like this: Selection of fotos (Lightroom) ->> Edit in Photoshop - goto Camera raw Filter (for some correction's wich are cumbersom in PS but easy in ACR) (! and (maybe)loose all the ACR parameters??).. then back to PS for final tweaking and .. save as a PSD in Lightroom 3 tools for basic work of a Photographer... (ok. maybe only 2 of them). All three tools have different logic in their user interface and different shortcuts for control... Why three or at least two tools for fundamental and partly very simple tasks of a photographer??? and then celebrate a few AI Filters?
Okay I'm BRAND SPANKING NEW to photoshop and I CANNOT bring my photo from Camera Raw to photoshop. I've tried every single way to open a file and it will not open in PS. Only Camera Raw. 😭 Help please! 🥺
@@f64Academy thank you for replying! & No, it just automatically opens in Camera Raw and I'm not sure I may be missing so that I can get in PS. It won't export to PS either. 🤔
@@f64Academy I got it! I had to go to file, then place embedded to get it in PS. 🤷🏻♀️ I'm not sure if that limits any functions or not, but I'm happy I got it in the actual application! Lol thank you for your time!!
@@biancasnaps so Photoshop opens all Raw file into ACR first. You should start the edit process there. Then when done editing the raw file, press okay and it should open in PS. To open any other file, you can just drag and drop the file into PS.
I don't know if there is something wrong with your microphone or with your audio processing, but it is so loud in the high end and lacking in the low end. Hurts my ears.
