So glad to have found you, Mike! I've lost my central vision due to Stargardt's disease and reading is pretty much done for me. So it's time to get into Voiceover, and I've found it a bit challenging...probably because I can still see some. Anyway, I've tuned in to several of your videos today and they're great. Would love a little more clarity regarding how to back up...seem to get stuck a lot. Getting started is the hardest part, for sure. Will view all your videos - hope you have onion navigating through apps...how to listen to voicemail, messages, scrolll through audiobook apps. I'm so happy to have this new resource - feel like it's going to make a huge difference. Thank you!
@margotkielhorn9892 Hello welcome to the Legally Blind Geek Channel. Learning the ins and outs of voiceover is a challenge to be sure. Customizing voiceover for an individuals needs is a bit of trial and error exercise. Are you at all familiar with the 1-finger swipe gesture, from right edge of the screen to left side of screen to back up the text voiceover is reading?
@@LegallyBlindGeek I just upgraded to IPhone 15 Pro Max, IPad Pro and Apple Ultra Watch 11 as I am loosing my vision to AMD in retirement. Trying to make the best of it. You and others give me hope that I can at least do something about it if I persevere. I have used an iPad daily for over 10 years for News Aggregation., learning, hobbie and much more, RU-vid is such a great resource and how to tool. Keep producing and publishing your content as I find you are an important teacher and contributor to your community. It really matters a lot. PS your pacing is a little fast at times and the information you provide Is so useful and important perhaps a bit slower, repetition or summarizing would make it even better like for your videos on the Apple Watch and it’s Accessibility features. Great information in this video. I'm glad I was able to find your video. I'm looking for a cell phone or iPad for my mother, who has low vision and is considered legally blind. She's currently using a Samsung A14 phone and having a difficult time. They recently did an update, and she's unable to see where the microphone is located. Among other issues she's having with the phone, I think an iPad would be better. I also read the Pixel is great for people with visual impairments. Do you happen to be familiar with that, or do you have any recent recommendations for something more significant than what she currently has? Thanks for your help!
@lc3940 thank you for your question. The first thing that I always ask is what platform does my friends and family use that I'm going to try to communicate with them most of the time. Apps designed for iOS tend to work really well across different iOS devices. Unfortunately, a lot of Android apps and iOS apps do not play well together. The Google Pixel phone is really good and highly recommended for creators primarily because of the cameras and people familiar with the Android platform. So first determine which platform android or Apple most of your mother's friends and family will be communicating. Second, the iPhone voice assistant a.k.a Siri Is getting better at doing things for the visually impaired person all the time. Set up properly Siri works surprisingly well. Your mother wouldn't necessarily need to find the proper button on her iPhone or iPad. Mom could easily ask Siri to do whatever she needs her devices to perform. Then there are accessibility vision settings you and your mom can easily customize that make it easy for your mother to use her preferred device such as the iPhone Pro Max size, or 13-inch iPad Pro. For instance, you could set up larger text bold text, and the iOS voice assistant a.k.a Siri voiceover for starters. Hope this helps, make it a great day, and remember overcoming low vision challenges is worth all the effort. By the way, my wife loves her iPad. She uses it for everything: digital book reader, social media, emails, and texts all are easy on the larger screen.
