Constantly listening to Queen Cds, one day I noticed Freddie singing the words, 'never had a real friend, a boy or a girl", I tear at Roger's heartfelt assurance to Freddie in his words, "you were a real friend of mine".

That just made me cry. It's such a beautiful song that Roger wrote for his soulmate and you can see that he was very moved by singing it. They've known each other for 23 odd years, having a stall together in Kensington before Freddie joined Roger and Brian to establish Queen. They were always having fun, laughing and ganging up on John and Brian always up to shenanigans. Roger was on his way to Freddie the evening he died and wanted to visit him as he used to every few days. He was 300 yards away when he got the call that Freddie passed. It must have been so devastating that he wasn't able to say a proper goodbye. With this song he finally could say everything he couldn't before.

A lovely song, such an epic friendship-Jim Hutton, Freddie’s last boyfriend said that Roger was Freddie’s muse. They were roommates and friends way before Queen. In fact they ran a clothing stall in Kensington Market, and used to go to see Jimmi Hendrix play as much as possible-both huge Hendrix fans

richlisola1...Yup...this is true! Rog AND Bri were flatmates together with Freddie pre-Queen days. That damn Bo Rhap biopic was so misleading with respects to this part of their history as pre-Queen friends.

Keziah Yeah, they really had a special relationship. Did you know the logo for Queen, which Freddie as a graphic designer, designed, has all the zodiac signs of the band members-And a Phoenix? The phoenix represents the fact that Queen emerged from the Ashes of other bands. Cuz Brian, Roger and Freddie knew each other while they were in other bands-Brian and Roger were in Smile. And Freddie was in a band called IBEX (renamed Wreckage), and after he was in a band called Sour Milk Sea. All the while Freddie wanted to join Smile, he was a bit of a Smile groupie and was friends with their lead singer Tim. Once Tim left Freddie pushed the others to make a new band from the ashes of their old bands-That band was and is Queen

It's such a sweet song. I've always loved the "sleep in peace, old friend, for me you'll never die" 😭 Roger and Freddie were soulmates according to Jim. He mentioned in his book that when Roger would come over, him and Freddie would just sit together chatting and giggling. They've been friends and flatmates before Queen as well. If you're interested in very early Queen you should definitely read Queen in Cornwall. Beautifully researched, full of less known stories. There's just something so endearing about them camping out in Roger mum's living room for the summer 😄 if there's one thing I won't forgive Bo Rhap is not giving enough screen time to these friendships.
