It’s sad that society was so hard on Miley. I mean everyone goes through a faze and deals with things differently we need to realize as a whole that everyone makes mistakes but they are still human. The Mickey shirt represents her time on Disney and the red outfit represents her “crazy” faze. Miley is tearing up not only cause of the song but because her mom was the one behind the camera listening to it all.
I'm not fond of the overproduction on her voice, especially near the beginning, but its a very very good song. It's certainly very lyrically clever, and it's (I think deliberately) emulative of "The Climb".
