One of the most memorable and iconic scenes of television, wonderfully acted by Richard Chamberlain and Rachel Ward Everything was on point, pure perfection
😰😰The Thorn Birds. Meggie tells her secret to Ralph who breaks down in tears😰😰 1554pm 27.5.24 it's no different from the bold and the beautiful - the script being nothing short of well worn. his tears genuinely sounded like the tears of a weary man. the fact he's called ralph kindda made his woes seem nothing, though.
Oh, my goodness! I had not seen this since it first aired in 1983, over 40 years ago, and yet I remembered that the next line after "Poor Ralph" was "Poor Cardinal du Bricassart!" That's the impact this scene had on me!
😰😰The Thorn Birds. Meggie tells her secret to Ralph who breaks down in tears😰😰 1551pm 27.5.24 the 1980's..... the era of the soap opera - being seen as the way forward re: imparting a yarn. melodrama saw fit to keep me glued to the set..... from large biblical blockbusters to rural southern belles making eyes at the latest cad and bounder..... to....................... religious turmoil like this..... we all fancied this lady.... those of us who didn't have a religious calling, that is.
@@drewprice8468 Comments on ‘😰😰The Thorn Birds. Meggie tells her secret to Ralph who breaks down in tears😰😰’ AHAHAHA.... i watched this during my childhood. enjoyed soap operas in them days... dallas, dynasty, corrie...eastenders... all good fun.
It's so pathetic to see an ignoble being like Ralph and Meggie's nobility who for over 27 years kept this secret about Dane and his father. Her leaving his presence shows a gallantry that only great women possess. Ralph, the ambitious one, lost everything that mattered most in life: DANE. In this infamous struggle between Ralph's god and Meggie's cruel reality, Meggie emerged victorious. For Ralph, he regrets not having lived 27 years with Dane because of his selfishness. For Meggie, there is the fullness of having been a full-time mother. HERE THE WINNER'S GRAND PRIZE GOES TO MEGGIE!!!
What did she win exactly? Ralph was not innocent, but neither was she. This scene just showed cruelty for cruelty's sake because misery loves company. All those years she hid from him that he had a child, only to tell him in that moment. It's pretty disgusting.
Watching this now, I think she told him because she wanted him to feel the same horrible pain she was feeling - or better said, so she wouldn't be the only one hurting. It doesn't make it any less cruel of her to do it, of course, although you can't really blame her, considering she had just lost her favourite child in a stupid accident.
When I was younger I thought that was really cruel of her to have told him that. Now that I'm older, I don't. Neither of them are true blue heroes, we are all flawed people in some way.
What a scene!! Merciless Meggie have had enough of God & Ralph. Poor Ralph, he has never seen Meggie this harden before, it broke him, maybe even killed something inside of him.
For a minute way back when I watch it for the very first time, i thought, oh no. Meggie has turned into Fee. The circle of life is upon us. Delightfully it doesn't end that way.
@@thorn-birdsthey sure don't make them like they used to, i miss this era of Hollywood, back in the days when the story was favoured over cooperate profit
In all fairness he brought it on himself, his inability to choose between Meggie and the Church ended up costing him both.... not to mention Dane Mary Carson was right all along
@@thorn-birdsThank you for uploading them! It means alot This scene in particular hasn't been on YT for quite some time so im glad someone finally decided to re-upload it.
@@thorn-birds , I watched The Thorn Birds when it first came out in 1983. I was only 10 years old at that time, and even I knew that it was a big event. That scene had always stuck out to me. And, still one of my favorite scenes until this day. Rachel Ward did not get enough love and praise by the critics and the awards people at that time. Even though there were many great actors in that miniseries, she was the one that carried that miniseries. And, that scene proved it.
Very cruel by Maggie to keep it a secrete all those years and to tell him now. She knew Ralph was a man of God and would never be hers. Yet she still pursued him, got pregnant by him and then the rest. She did this to herself and wanted to hurt Ralph as some sort of revenge.
He absolutely was not innocent. He was a “man of God” but was also drawn to her and kept stringing her along. He was hungry for power and ambition which ultimately destroyed him and any chance of happiness they could have had.
@@gee2541 he was always honest with her and told her that for him God comes first, before her. Yet she always lived and did everything with the hope that one day he will be with her or choose her. And when it finally became apparent to her that he wont, she decided to share the truth about their son to him. So he can also feel the pain she felt of losing their son. That is the cruel part. Her choices also destroyed her happiness.
@@seven92023ehh but if he hadn’t followed her to the island and broken his vow - if he had stayed away, since he knew very well he wouldn’t leave the priesthood - this wouldn’t have happened. If he had made a firm decision either way vs stringing her along, then treating her like she was the idiot for thinking they could be together one day, this could’ve been avoided.
@@JenniferBardall He didn't string her along. On the island she knew that was their moment, they had it and she let him go. Her plan was already created at moment - to have his kid, at least as part of him, something from him. He was always clear with her that his commitment to God comes first. She understood it on the island and that's why she made the plan she did. But it backfired on her and then she decided to tell him so he also experiences the pain she did. It was vengeful and cruel on her part. The "what if" is on her part too.
A lot of times, when an actor is incredibly handsome or an actress is incredibly beautiful, people overlook their acting skills. But Richard Chamberlain is such a great actor, there is not denying his talent.
