Geoff resisted doing this song for a long time because he was not comfortable with just how evil Frolo is. Personally, I don't think anyone else would do this character as well.
The arrangement for this one was done by Layne Stein, the beatboxer on the far left. And you're right, their voices were especially gorgeous on this. It should be illegal for anyone to sound as glorious as Eli did singing the words "Destroy Esmerelda". Geoff's tone was especially 'rounded' and gorgeous on this song, but also with that liturgical drone when asking for Mercy. And Layne managed to beatbox the sound of Castanets!
If you really want scary from Geoff then please do a reaction video to Geoff Castallucci's ( the low bass singer in Voice Play ) solo cover of Jack's Lament. If you love Disney then please do a reaction video to Voice Plays cover of The Little Mermaid. Geoff is scary in this one too. Voice Play are the masters when it comes to Disney. They do just about everything themselves, except for the final mixing & make-up..Thank you for a great reaction to Voice Play. I just subscribed ❤
If you want to run out of notes on your keyboard entirely, I'd recommend you listen to Valhalla Calling by Voiceplay. Excellent song. Aaaand Geoff shows off a little.
I would have to demand Jonathan Young play the part of Frollo. His cover of this song remains my favorite version, even over the original (It hurts me to say it, folks).

And of course, it took forever for VoicePlay's fans to convince Geoff to sing this because he so hates the character. I highly doubt anyone could ever get him to play Frollo for an entire movie.

Welcome to Voiceplay! Here's some rules and also some info on them. As a hardcore Voiceplaya, these are just some "rules" (suggestions, really) I just came up with them on my own, but after years of being a Voiceplaya, I've found they're necessary for optimal Voiceplay (and to a degree, Home Free as well) listening. If you've already got some of them down, know I'm just posting the list, not criticizing your reactor skills! And if you want to remove this post, feel free. The rules: #1) VERY important! ALWAYS watch to the very end of the video, or at least a ways into the patrons scrolling. Often times it may LOOK like the video has ended, but there's an outro. Also, watching to the end lets you see their awesome cover art, and hear more of the music, including karaoke and sometimes remixed version of the song. #2) Always leave the closed captions on. Geoff's wife Kathy (who helps with their videos, she also appears in some, such an amazing woman!) has hearing loss, so sometimes there will be little hidden gems in the CC. #3) If you pause a video to speak, rewind it five-ten seconds before you start it again, to make sure you don't miss anything. #4) Don't look away from the screen, or close your eyes for more than a second, because, again, you might miss a visual gag or clever moment. #5) Don't go into their videos with expectations on what the song will be like, i.e., that it will be the same as the original. These guys put their own spin on things. The only thing to expect, generally, is to be blown away by their sheer talent. #6) Unless you have a REALLY great speaker system with stereo sound, ALWAYS wear good headphones/earbuds with Voiceplay and Geoff. They do amazing little tricks you can only pick up with those hearing devices. Plus, some of Geoff's notes are so low you practically can't hear them without headphones Oh, and FYI, Voiceplay is: (Left to right.) Layne Stein, their beatboxer. Sometimes he sings, and it's always a treat to hear his voice. He's also known as The Carrot Lord and has another talent as well, which I'll leave to surprise you. J. None. Currently on reverse leave, he is away from the group singing for the Navy, but frequently does videos with VP when he can. Geoff Castellucci. (Said Jeff Cas-teh-lou-chee) He's the bass, with long hair. He has a solo channel of low bass covers, well worth checking out! His lowest note, currently, is a B0. You can hear it in Voiceplay's "Valhalla Calling." You almost feel it more than you hear it. Eli Jacobsen (pronounced El-ee, NOT E-lie!) Tenor rock god. Cesar De La Rosa, their newest member. He brings the feels to every performance! And he flirts with the camera, and it flirts right back! Glad to see you were blown away by them! As we all are, even those of us who have been their fans for years! This is my favorite Voiceplay line-up too, with Cesar and J. None. There have been different line-ups through the years, so don't be surprised if the core members' faces change as you go back farther in time. With J. None on a sabbatical of sorts (the Naval Choir asked him to sing with them), they have different guests for each song. But fear not, because they always find the PERFECT guest for each song! I could tell you all sorts of facts and opinions about each member, but I'll let you discover them on your own! Enjoy! I know we will watching you!
you should check out VoicePlay's version of the Halo theme or there version of Valhalla Calling from skyrim, they also do an amazing version of The Dragonborn Comes, also from skyrim.
I like the comment from one reactor who said he'd never want to be Geoff's kid, having to confess to something gone wrong, and getting that "Say What?" directed at him.
One note, that last note from Geoff was a subharmonic, not a growl, which is part of why the sound is so much fuller. Geoff usually uses subharmonics for his range extention notes.
The audio/video sync was so far off, it would have been better to not even have the video on screen. I kind of gave up watching after 3:45, the disconnect between what my eyes were seeing and what my ears were hearing was too much.
Something interesting I heard about this song. On the line where Geoff sings “She will be mine or she (up an octave) will (up another octave) burn,” the person singing it for the movie couldn’t get that high and asked them to change it to make it lower. Instead, they showed him how to expand his range and hit that note. Now Geoff, VoicePlay’s bass, hits that note and then goes even higher!
Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff! This was probably one of the most serious of their videos, and they knocked it out of the park, but if you want a look at their silly side I highly recommend their other Disney covers. Little Mermaid Medley and We Don't Talk About Bruno are the standouts for me in terms of humor, and each of those also feature an absolutely phenomenal guest artist. Regarding Geoff being the live action Frollo, I think most everyone who's seen this agrees with you, but I highly doubt it will happen. It took the guys literal years + an incredible arrangement from Layne to talk him into doing just this song. He's said multiple times that he loves playing villains, but Frollo disturbs him on a very deep level and I think that's reflected in this performance. Geoff can't help but humanize him a little, which just makes him scarier IMO. And personally, I find it very reassuring that he can't stomach Frollo.
To see VoicePlay's ability to take an exceedingly simple song and made it a thing of the beauty, see " My Mother Told Me" and " Hoist the Colors", or for something fun, " The Lion Sleeps Tonight".
"… he to be Frolo" well Geoff wasn't so happy to sing Frolo as a main voice since he hates to be twisted characters I've heard, so I hope he won't have to do the role if that will ever happen to be a real thing the live action 💀
All that stopping and starting threw the video and audio out of sync with each other. Well done, but not worth subscribing to if all your videos are going to be this way.
