😲 CAN I BUILD MY OWN BOARD? | DIY Windsurf Board 2.0 

In the 80s, I constructed a windsurfer in one day, rode it in the afternoon. Shaped an EPS blank, then laminated it using 8 lb urethane pour foam, water proofing it with sun cured polyester resin. Used pour foam for the inserts and fin box as well, sugar deck for traction. The 14 lb board, 120 liters worked well, I was able to best local sailors.

This is better than TopGear. Love it. Best entertainment in a long time.

Hi Nico, i like the project and the fact you developed the board is awsome. I enjoy every minute on the water and normaly don't care about footage. I started wave sailing one year ago in the baltic sea and now i do my first turns and "big" jumps as well. No one before did a picture or video about my skills and i would love to see myself windsurfing, from another angel. 🤙🤙🤙

next time you should build your own DIY Fin!! like a slalom one, using carbon fiber plates, and araldite glue + carbon fiber tissue and epoxy :) i am currently building one right now, and id love to see you guys do it

Board looks “great “ so well done. Heavy surfing like early 1978 when I started. I like to use camera with fin- and foil surfing summertime, winter with kitesurfing on ice and with motorcycling when it’s not windy

You encourage us to build board DIY. This is great. In Indonesia, getting a windsurfer is very difficult because of the high price, and the transport cost to get it sent here. And Windsurf board is the most expensive and too large for transport. If we can make it our own, it will be much possible to popularize this sport in Indonesia. I would use the Insta360 to film windsurfing sessions of course, and windfoiling, and catamaran sailing, and bike rides, may be a bit of wing too. And I am sure I'd get a lot more ideas down the line 😁

A very successful further development of your first DIY surfboard. What a great project! With the insta360 I would be able to capture my children's progress on the surfboard and my own mistakes when power jibing and other surfing mistakes. 😅

My wife went windsurfing for the first time… although she got a little worried at times. She was saying if only we could have recorded it. I think she is hooked now! Asking me when we can go again!

My wife would even be more happy then myself with the Insta360. I can now film my windsurfing sessions myself and she will no longer be sandblasted on the beach. 2 persons more then happy. And in winter we will have super ski and snowboard footage too.

I can put the insta360 on my various hobbies, e.g. windsurfing, wingfoil, kitesurfing, cycling, fishing etc. One of the best shot I can think of is to put it behind the foil under water. Just like a submarine chasing my foil.

I will put the Insta360 in the inner of my board to film it's emotions when I'm riding it ;) Use Paulownia wood the next time, it is light weight, floating and relatively water resistant.

I would like to take part to the draw for the insta 360, because it would be super usefull to film all my long distance projects with it (I'm trying to see if I could not create one where I live in Brittany (the region), France, and I need images to get sponsors for the upcomming event) It would also be usefull to film sessions on my gear (homemade foil & board) to see witch points I need to tune. Thanks again for your work, I usualy don't leave comments, but your videos are really cool (racing events are my favorites)

Great entertainment. I liked how you solved the problems. I never thought this heavy board would come up on the foil at all. Very very cool. And yeah the insta360 footage looks quite nice. I never tried one in windsurfing because of the fisheye clips but maybe I should give it a try. And last I was impressed how much gear is stored in your shed. It looks almost like a surfshop. Well done for this challenge. Ah and one thought: are this videos the path of how to shape and create your own board brand I wonder? 🤔

Really fun video to watch. It reminds me of what I want later and that is make my own windsurf brand. Would be amazing to make my own board for fun. Was thinking earlier to make my own custom fin or foil for my internship. Sadly I didn't have enough time to do it but I would love to once. For the next step I think you should try and make a tendem board and invite a fan to surf with you on it. Or of course make a board that actually foils! Always love watching your videos can't wait for the next!

I understand it's just for fun, but there are many ways to improve it, even with only wood and glue. :) No need for these thick and heavy constructions. I saw videos of how wooden paddle boards were made and it could be a nice starting point to make a windsurf board in the same way.

If I got the camera, I would continue my journey as a windfoil'er and took it on my euro trip to the best spots in the world and share my passion and experiences with other windsurfers out there! Doing funny challenges, recording tutorials and giving tips on how to get better and enjoy this beautiful sport :D

Very impressive! I feel you could go to a 6mm plywood. The rails could also be shaped easily by bending and ‘laminating’ 2-3 slices on thinner plywood with construction glue and or screws.

Hi Nico and team. Great video again. I would suggest to fil the body with poly styreen. To reduce weight. You could add a paint or epoxy coating ( car ) and than sand down with fine sandpaper for more speed. And yes I would like a I sta 360 to film my 3 year old daughter on the windsurf board. Insta360 rocks 🤙🤙, I would use the insta360x4 to upgrade my x3 😇, use them both for a second angle 🤙x3 on the mast and x4 on the boom 🤙🤙🤙🤙

This was great i absolutely want you to do more home made boards. I and my father are going to make a board using EPS core and lamination with epoxy later in the year if i won the camera i would use it to document our results

I would use the insta 360 to film my first time over 30knots on a foil. So far I m stuck on 26 knots on the iq foil…but might a smaller frontwing will do it..😅 wish me luck🤞🏼 Great footage once again Nico!

I think you need a much bigger foil wing, like an Infinity 99 to get that up happily.

Foil boards always remind me of floating ironing boards, try an ironing board. The shape is perfect.

Very interesting, in the end it is only the fin or the foil in the water....Nice shape, maybe you could have also used thinner wood to make it lighter but how could you know. Looks like you needed a bigger foil with all this weight, IQ size foil wings maybe, would like to see you try it, probably you will make it foil fine with it. Good luck for the next PWA in Sylt!
