You could use a little paint or washable paint I used washable paint nailed it in and then took a wet rag and cleaned around the nails that I hung my picture from up I hope this helps someone😊

Just use a sharpie on the back and press against the wall. It'll leave a tiny dot barely visible. Enough to indicate where to put the nail.

You can tell that those are not level just by looking at them
