Chlorhexidine is an ingredient found in HIBICLENS sold in American Wal-Mart Stores. Ask someone at the Pharmacy counter to help you if you have trouble finding it on the store shelves. It is a surgical scrub that surgeons use to wash their hands prior to performing surgery. It is a very mild non-abrasive soap with no soap suds or residue and very gentle to skin. Hope this helps everyone.....
You don't know that. My cat got out Saturday and we've spent every day looking for him. Never keep a pet, always post it on your local lost and found pets and let animal control know since that's where we look 1st!!
My vet said it's okay to use Q-tip inside the ear because cats' inner ears is L shape so it's impossible to go too deep & damage anything like human ears, because we would meet the end corner of that "L" when we stick the Q-tip, if you can imagine what I mean.
Great video, they're so adorable! As a quick disclaimer. Only use a Q-Tip if you know what you're doing and the cat is calm, so if it's you and your cats first time use a cotton ball or soft rag. But as you can see, once you and your cat get comfortable with it, they enjoy a little help keeping them clean. :)
I don't even own a cat but someone mentioned to me that they were searching up videos on cat ear cleaning and I got so curious...how DO you clean a cat's ears.
Wow, what kind of cat is that orangey striped one? And the light gray one? Soooooo pretty! I have never liked cats but then I rescued one after it's owners abandoned it! They had put a kitten collar on him when he was a baby and then LEFT HIM to grow out of the collar! When I carefully removed the collar from him, it had literally cut into his flesh in many parts on his neck! My Sammy Cat is my bestest buddy now and while I was going to leave him as an outdoor cat, he has slowly wiggled his way inside and is now mostly an indoor kitty. He does go out for short periods during the day but he is loving being indoors! I think he's an orange tabby mix because he has an orange color but it is more like a light strawberry blonde. He is sooooo pretty! I can't believe I'm a cat owner! HEHE! Love it!
I've got a 6 to 7 month old kitten. It's a he cat. He fights me every time I get close to try cleaning his ears. He's scratched them till blood is in them. But fights me when I try. I'm left with rolling him up in a towel to do it.
Aww your cats are very lovely! Btw can i use ear drops that we use or are there any special ear drops for cats?and is there any other stuff i need to know bout how to clean my cat's ear?
Definitely do NOT ever give cats any medications or cleansers etc that are meant for humans. Pills, creams, drops, sprays, anything. They could really hurt them or even kill them! Please only use ear drops specially made for cats. Hope your kitty gets better soon x
Just found your podcast. I subscribed bc I love how u r with your cats. It’s a blessing 2 c how u care 4 them. I love 💕 how calm & gentle u r with your cats. Your voice is very soothing as well. I adopted a five year old cat a few yrs back & they said they gave him medicine 4 ear mites. I took him home & ended up getting 2 more scripts for ear mites meds. My cat has always had dark discharge from his eyes & ears. I have been cleaning them with q tips ever since I brought him home. He doesn’t care 4 it but I give him treats & I get as much as I can. I’ve noticed my other cat now has some brown discharge from his ears but not nose as well. The second cat is older & a loner so I’m not sure how he got anything from my five year old. Could it still b mites? How would it look different? I’ve been going down further than just the outside. How would that cause a problem? I’m very careful & slow. Ty. Ps I’ve never noticed either cat 🐈 shake or scratch at their ears.
Oh, I'm super blushed, thank you :) As for your older baby, I doubt it's ear mites due to discharge from nose. As per description, it seems to be an infection, but after so long time... It might be that the cases are not related. Brown discharge from eyes might be ok, if there is no pus; it could be just due to anatomical peculiarities. The discharge from eyes turns brown when it's oxidized. One can damage an ear-drum or block ear with ear-wax if not careful. BTW, ear-wax could be of a brown color, so your younger cat might have increased secretion. But I don't see your cats to say if it's ok or not. It would be better if you take them to a specific veterinarian, with good reviews. Here, in Ukraine its common to leave reviews about services and specialists we deal/t with. You need a good one, who is qualified in diagnostics in cats.
Meowgical family, Awe, I’m so glad that my comments were a blessing 2 u. You surely deserved them. I also noticed your 🐱 🐈 purred which is a good sign that they feel content, very loved & cared 4. My older cat Simba doesn’t have a discharge from his nose. I said he didn’t have a discharge from his nose but I meant eyes. 🤦♀️ So maybe the discharge m his ear is ear discharge. ? I gave him 2 scripts of ear mites meds @ the same time as BooBoo’s for his protection. Unfortunately, Simba’s previous owner(s), or father of owner wanted 2 put him down along with their other cat who was sick. The father said bc the mother was allergic. I’m thinking Simba was the daughters cat & was going off 2 college. The vet had them sign him over 2 her & she put him up 4 adoption. He was 9 yrs old & no one came forward. I adopted him happily but it turns out he had blood n his stool a few months later & hasn’t wanted 2 use the litter box when defecating about 50 % of the time. I think someone wasn’t being honest. I’m not capable of paying hundreds of dollars for him 4 tons of tests. I don’t think it would b easy on him as well. Simba’s discharge is a little lighter & there’s less of it. It didn’t show up until maybe 5-6 months ago. So maybe it’s regular cat/ear discharge. I clean BooBoo’s ears all the time. I’ll take him n & have him checked out. But I’m thinking he just has ear discharge as well, since I can’t remember either cat scratching or shaking their heads. Thank you so much. I’ll check with the vet on how I clean the cats ears. I’ve been doing this 4 around forty years. 😺 Thank u so much for taking the time 2 get back 2 me with this information. May u continue 2 b blessed as u have surely blessed me & others. 😻
Bills are always the issue that's why I decided to spend a considerable amount of time reading about cats and their health. That's why I try to track everything related to my cats and provide my vet with as more details as possible, because a cat wont tell them what's wrong and where it hurts. A little tip that might help you, if you don't have several litter boxes, try to have at least two, one of my cats was pooping near a litter box because she didn't want to poop where other cats poop :) In addition, they might not use it if there is some poop in it already :) But again, it depends on their personality.
My cat has a gnarly case of ear mites. I’ve taken it to the vet and applied the antibiotics, tresaderm. Nothing worked. I’ve been trying to solve it myself and it’s impossible because my cat scratches me and squirms. I’ve tried immobilizing it with a towel. But I only have enough time to put the drops in not clean the ears before it totally freaks out.
Try to get your cat used to the towel, wrap it daily and make it feel comfy (stroke it or whatever it likes), hopefully, this is going to work. If you immobilized it in a towel the right way plus hold its head firmly !but carefully! it shouldn't escape. Yes, the cat won't like it. But it's something that should be done if we want them to be happy and healthy in the long run.
When it's in the towel and starts to freak out, if you gently grab hold of the scruff it should cause them to sit still long enough to clean the ear. Holding a cat in the air or picking it up by the scruff when they're no longer kittens is bad, and can hurt them, but if they're sitting or laying (in a towel for example) applying pressure there wont cause harm but should trigger the "limp" state.
Your video so so graceful and I love your accent, I feel my cat has ear mites as the discharge is very dark like coffee! 😭 he won’t sit still to let me try and clean his ears can you advise?? Thank you x
I'm not a pet professional, just speaking from recent experience with my kitten. Ear mites can cause ear infection, and are important to treat. Like the video mentioned, treatment is usually inexpensive for mites (thankfully). If you suspect mites (which based on your comment, sounds very likely) you will want to get in to see your vet soon so they can properly treat it for you. Hope it all works out 😊
My cat accidentally got water inside his ears and now it's oozing discharge. I wanna clean it but the moment I touch his ears he turns into mini satan 💀 I might try the liquid snack bribe or the burrito method
My cat went 100% deaf on both ears after i took it to the vet to have the ears cleaned for mites , he pored some ear cleaning liquid in the ears instead of using cotton swabs etc to pull the dirt out , im not sure if the cat has lost all her hearing forever or if they are just plugged up with ear vax and thats whats making her 100% deaf .... the vet sais i dont know what happend to her.... he cant do nothing to help or fix it , what am i supposed to do ? :(
Would it be possible to get advise of another vet? Also you need to know which liquid was used exactly. I hope everything will be fine and you will figure it out.
I just did a flea care with Dawn dish soap to a kitten and it was possibly the hardest thing I've ever experienced in my entire life. Now she won't stop sneezing and idk if they are all out. She is and has been an inside cat but another cat got in and infested her I think. She's only 7 weeks and it was bad
@@Meowgical she's definitely doing a lot better now. I think some soap got in her little nose. She's happy as can be now and comfortable more importantly. I used a flea comb and I was shocked how many came out. Don't think the previous owner even knew. No more itching or miserable cat lol now I am worried about worms. I have over the counter stuff but my faith isn't all in that
Hello can you help me my cat is about 8months 3weeks and i can tell that she irritated because of her ears and she keeps scratching and itching her ears 3 days ago just a bit of blood came out but do you know anything i can do at home to get rid of it and also if i got vets for it how much will it cost
Unfortunately, I don't know how much it will cost. As for the itching...it really depends on what she has. It can be allergies or mites, or fleas or something else.
My kittens have been taken to the vets and they said they have no ear mites... however they keep shaking their head and scratching their ear, what do I do ?
Getting a second opinion might be an option. If it's happening sometimes then everything is probably fine. If they do it abnormally often like several times per hour then there is definitely something that irritates them either inside the ear or outside.
You can either get a second opinion or they might simply scratch it without any particular reason related to their health :) or they might have polyps but if nothing else is disturbing them (e.g. disruptions) then everything is probably fine
She is a well-behaved kittie who never had issues trusting people as we never did anything wrong to her, plus it's related to genetics. But look at my leg, maybe you'd notice where her claws are :D She was ready to run away as soon as she sees a moment, it's in their nature, they don't like to be immobilized.
My cat's ears don't stink, but I know for sure they ain't clean. I'm thinking about trying to clean them by myself, I'm just not sure how not to go too deep.
I can see why he would because people are not always sensible, especially when it is in an effort to avoid vet bills. Clearly this kind of regular basic care reduces visits to the vet or your cat getting a worse infection than you were aware of. She's very clear about it: don't go inside at all, just a peripheral clean.
I'd really like to clean my cat's ears, but since he's a street cat (even if I'm trying to teach him about home) is a challenge bigger than achieve the peace in Afghanistan Can't hold him, can't touch his ears, he just complain and run away.....
If I grabbed my cats ear like that, my arm would quickly look like it just came out of a meat grinder. And would every time she thought I was going to grab her ear after that.
The logical thing to do would be visiting a veterinarian. Think what could have caused it, fly bite? Some chemicals? Allergy? Does the ear have cuts, bite marks or something weird on its skin? Does your cat show signs of pain when you touch her/his ear? Usually it's a sign of inflammation/irritation.
Why is it so easy for you to clean your cat's ear. My cat dont keep still. He is always moving around so I am scared to clean his ears 😔 Any suggestions please 😔
It's due to her personality, she is always like that - sloooooow and chiiiiiiiled :) Take some damp tissue and clean the ears with it, it's much easier (minding you shouldn't go much inside the ear) and you won't need to worry about hurting the cat plus try to secure your cat using kitty burrito method: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N78_dc3lS14.html
I use 'diateamaceous earth' to worm and flea my animals...I havent bought a prescribed or over counter treatment for years, and they thrive. My dog is 16 and in great shape. I gave some to my neighbour....he said it cleared up his cats ear mites. 10 kilos cost about £20, I take it myself (its almost pure silica) Its saved me quite a bit of cash, it's not just natural, but beneficial for coat skin and nails too. Animal treatments are a rip off, some dont even work, and some are harmful, and they're all way over priced.
I just mix it well into wet food. It doesn't really have a taste, so that's not a problem. I only use about a third of a tea spoon for my dog (he's about the size of a large Jack Russel), and a bit less for the kitten, they dont seem to notice it, I cant taste it in a smoothie, it's not unpleasant...or pleasant. They have it 2 or 3 times a week.
I have five cats but one of my cats died of cancer and my birthday was July 9th 2019 so I just got a kitten and I'm very concerned about him I called him Justice and if you look at my video it's when he first came home what it was like just in case he's got ears going things going in his ear and they're not alive or anything but I'm just worried cuz when I'm cleaning his ears he starts to meow a lot like I've heard him or something and I just feel like I there so much of it do you have any suggestions
Anyone watching this. Please this is a very wrong technique and can cause damage to the animal. Never ever use a cotton swab in a cats ear. Cotton balls yes but never a swab on a stick. Ask your veterinarian this is definitely the wrong way to do it. I’m not saying this to be disrespectful to this channel just I would hate to see any animal harmed.
