I love how no one commented on the ram using traction control. You do not use traction control in the snow, especially if you're towing something, or stuck, or both such as this situation. You want some tire spin when stuck in the snow. Having the traction control kick in will stop your momentum and get you nowhere. SMH at least the guy in the Chevy knew not to use the traction control

I was thinking the very same thing haha. That big tricked out Dodge with those fancy wheels and tires, and then that big ass expensive fifth wheel and the dude can't even drive the dame thing, even with 4WD and snow chains....like wow.

Tell your uncle to turn off the traction control button on dash next time and his 4x4 will work properly. The computer was trying not to let the wheel spin. Stupid safety features cars have these days. Only works in 4x4 low range

Using a chain to recover a vehicle is the first mistake. The 2nd is hooking the chain to an aluminum hitch. You need an actual tow hook and a strap lol

Seen a video of a chain like that one snapping and killing the driver of the rig being pulled out. Covering with a blanket keeps it from flailing though.

I would suggest that rver's towing a trailer but the trailer brakes on the lowest setting or turn them off. If the trailer locks up and truck doesnt. That trailer will try and out run the truck.

i get around 17 -18 mpg not towing and around 10 - 11 mpg towing with mine, its a 2016 with the cummins

Yes v bar chains for all truck and at least two wheels on the trailer . No problem then if driver has a clue. Don't think this driver very smart !

the hitch that's connected to the fifth wheel trailer has way too much movement it's moving and the trailer is not something's wrong, it should be a 100% rigid mount to the frame of the trailer with no movement if the hitch assembly moves so should the trailer

When chain controls are in effect, chains are legally required on a trailer (at least in the Sierra mountains) for at least two reasons - First any trailer over 3500 pounds has brakes. Without chains, the trailer brakes are useless and it will push the truck into jackknifing. Second, if the road has any bank or road crown, the trailer may start sliding sideways, especially if the vehicle is cornering or stopping, and this too can result in loss of control or jackknifing.

Gregory Parrott yea but on a tiny trailer like that for his bikes is it really necessary. We drive on ice all the time and never have chains on trailers and are fine, however we aren't in the mountains

Carson Tumbach In the video, he mentioned the use of chains for both trailers and in the case of the fifth wheel, without the chains, he said it literally slid away right out of the driveway. The chains would have prevented that. With a lighter trailer, your vehicle can overcome the trailer's tendency but in principle, the small trailer will have no better traction on snow than the large one.

K-9 COOPER so the gearing and chain drives inside the case will be ripped apart. it was designed for slip. you put chains on the rear it well cause the synchro in side to eat it self. even chaining all four wheels well cause major harm. if it is a gear drive it won't do anything to it. But most smaller transfer case's are chain drive like in that 3500.

Seems like a really great guy, I hope for him and his family and others on the road he doesn't film like that again especially in the snow. I'm sure it felt easier then how it appears, I've been guilty at using the phone at the wrong time too but we really need to consider others lives. Great video otherwise.

Click bait. For one that’s not jack knifing; that’s stuck. Two; you don’t put chains on the trailer; only the drive tires. To even attempt this feat with “especially without” chains on your drive tires is ridiculous. To blame this on chains is asinine. Three; you say “oh well he decided to not go and to not push it” sounds really stupid. Like don’t you really think that should’ve been thoughts about BEFORE putting the rig on the road?? This is the most idiotic decision I’ve seen an operator make. Should not have a license. What if some kids were playing on the edge of that ditch, and the corner pinned and killed them? What if he made it to the top of the hill, and he slid down the other side and took out multiple pedestrians or other vehicles? Very irresponsible. Also.......your face really annoys me.

Who the hell puts tire chains on a trailer??!!! Ive been hauling travel trailers and equipment trailers for the last 15 years and up until watching this shit show and major over exaggeration never heard of chains for a trailer.
