I love how you always say “I don’t want to be a hero”. I know it’s a joke but as a working mom I agree that sometimes you just need that shortcut so you can have time for yourself and what is important to you. Thanks for the budget videos lately!
I love your longer videos. You're such a chill influence in my digital world. Everything's always so calm and clean. The food looks delicious and I like that you didn't go 100% budgety, bc, of course you could have beans and rice flavoured with meat (which is great, don't get me wrong), but I love that you included fresh veg, fruit, delicious baby croissants, lemons. Instead of surviving, even in budget, you're thriving!
Good morning Jen ! I think you looked gorgeous in all of the glasses, all of them! Even the last pair were attractive on you , but perhaps my least favourite. The prices in the Walmart are not too far off our Walmart prices in Canada, but when I factor in the difference in the US $ versus CDN $ , wow groceries have really gone up ! Great video as usual, I will be trying the chicken chili. Have a wonderful Sunday, Margaret
Best meal prep video I’ve seen in a while! You usually inspire me when you cook anyway, but this one was great. I’m for sure making some chicken salad this week and your idea of making chicken and rice soup from the carcass of the rotisserie chicken is just brilliant! I don’t know what they do when cooking those rotisserie birds but they are so fragrant and delicious! I save the carcass of rotisserie chickens for bone stock that I make in my instant pot, but I like your idea for the chicken soup. Thanks Jen…you have wowed me again!
Hi Jen, this is my first time writing. Thank you for doing this really affordable menu plan. I’m 65 and on a fixed income, so I **really** need recipes like these. I cook for one (me😁) - so I think I can freeze (except the salads and lunches) what I don’t use immediately. The crockpot chicken recipe reminds me of one that I love called “Chicken Crack” and it is almost identical to your’s but it includes bacon and ranch dressing mix. Using lemon in chicken is so good! I make baked chicken with a lemon pepper mixture. I’m so happy I found your channel! Thank you, Jen !❤️
Hi Jen! Those meals all look yummy! Thank you so much for sharing! I will eventually make every one of them! The soup especially looks wonderful and would pair up so well with either the chicken salad or the Cobb salad for a dinner! I love how you separated the chicken salad from the croissants so they don't get soggy in the boxes! Hugs and blessings!!
The first recipe I made from your cookbook was the fish cakes. We love them! I've also used cod and salmon too and also was great. Thanks for another great video!
I grew up we washed paper plates and re used them we was so poor so love they fact you do budget meals hope you and your beautiful family have a great week hugss 💘
My mom used to write our names on our lunch plates and we’d use them for dinner too. She said a sandwich and chips was not enough to justify throwing them away. We just dusted them off b
Oh Jen my mouth is watering everything looks so good 😊. I just love watching you cook I have learned a lot about spicing food. I mean I always use spices but it’s the different ones that you use together in one dish. My mom used to make salmon paddies and my son and I loved them, I haven’t made them because I don’t know what she put in them lol 😂. I know she used canned salmon for convenience and we all like making sandwiches with it as well. Thank you for sharing I love your videos I have been watching for several years now. I hope you have a fabulous day hugs 🤗 for everyone. 🙏🤗❤️👍🦮🥐🥚🧀🍗🥘🥬🥒🥕🍚🥗🇨🇦
When you read the title as 50 meals for $7 😂. I was like how on earth?! She must be magical! I’m still so impressed with these meal options and how many you got for $50. Thanks for sharing 😊
I've never had fish cakes. I do have fudgbon hand so will have to try making some. The chili recipe looks delicious. Thanks for the menu ideas. Great as always. Oh I like the wire frame glasses on you the best.
It all looks so good! Love breakfast sandwiches. How you manage to have a RU-vid channel all the while working a full time professional job is so impressive. Kudos to YOU!
Put the green onions in water on window seal they will continue to grow and you can snip off as many pieces as you want I have about 8 in a small juice glass. I have not purchased green onions in 6 months.
Hi Jen, great vid. Thank you. 😊 I agree Tahini is expensive, thus, I never put it in my hummus, I instead sometimes pop in a tsp of sesame seeds and as long as you blend it well, you wouldn't know the difference, honestly. Most of the time though I just leave it out altogether. It really makes very very little difference lol, Murphy's like ummmmmmm where's my chicken salad???
Totally agree about the tahini. Homemade hummus is so good, but it can be expensive, and time consuming. Love all the ideas, especially the snack boxes, and breakfast croissants!
Thanks for sharing this with us. I like recipes where you don't have to stay in the kitchen all day. Because I used to love to cook Big dinners, but now I can't walk. I just have to get around in my wheelchair. And these the recipes that you showed here. A lot of real good! And I would like to try! So thank you for sharing.
When I do eggs for breakfast sandwiches, I scramble them and bake in the oven ( 350/375 for 10- 20 mins) on a cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray. Then u can cut them to size or use a glass to make rounds.
Hey, Jen! Great video. I'm so hungry now I could eat a cactus. I'm definitely going to make the crockpot chicken soup and the fish cakes. I love fish cakes!
Ava frames 🥰 for the whole chicken it's worth it! it has seasonings in it already so you won't need as much for chicken salad. we get them at BJs for 4.99.
Hi, are you no longer linking your Amazon store in the description box? I'm looking for the small spatula and fork. I noticed that there's no link to your store in a few past videos. Not sure if this is an oversight but it's very convenient for purchasing. Thanks 😊
I love this kind of video. I have your cookbook but I wanna try this chicken chili do you think that a package of taco seasoning would work for the spices?
“If you've noticed that eggs are more expensive at the supermarket, you're not alone-and it's not just the usual grocery inflation you're seeing in other aisles at the store. The USDA has confirmed that an avian flu is spreading among many birds in the United States, infecting both backyard and commercial chickens and turkeys alike. In particular, commercial layer chickens in Iowa, Maryland, South Dakota and Wisconsin have been affected. The state with the most endangered layer chickens-about 12 million-is Iowa, which produces the most eggs in the country. Backyard chickens in 19 states, from Maine to Nebraska, have also come down with the virus. Millions of poultry birds have died due to the illness so far, NPR reports, either because they succumbed to the flu or were killed to prevent it from spreading further. The commercial flocks likely caught the virus from wild birds, who have also been testing positive for the virus-the wild birds affected include bald eagles, mallards, owls and swans. Egg prices are already on the rise, according to the USDA Egg Market. Inflation coupled with an increase in feed prices due to the war in Ukraine are the two major causes. The shrinking number of the layer chickens in the U.S. hasn't helped, according to animal protein economist Brian Earnest of Cobank. As the outbreak goes on, further depopulation could compound the problem.” (From: EatingWell.com)
I wanted to see if there is a price difference in eggs at my Walmart in Southern California. For 1 dozen Great Value brand eggs, the cost is currently $3.26. 😬
I want to copy all these recipes. Thanks Jen. Here lately I've been cooking us breakfast sandwiches such as sausage, egg, and cheese, or bacon, eggs, and cheese. Better than McDonalds and probably healthier too but so yummy. Top them off with mustard, jelly, or honey their choice delucious! Have a good Sunday.
I havent seen a whole chicken under 6 to 8 lbs at my walmart in over a year. I think I saw your rotisserie chicken weighed 2 lbs? Maybe I misread the pkg. I do buy rotisserie chicken there though! Love the look of the chicken chili@ Gonna try that.
My kids have been mad that haven’t bought cream cheese in awhile. Aldis raised the price to $1.45. I been too cheap to pay that much. On Friday the cheese store next to the Kraft factory posted a sale that Philadelphia cream cheese was .99 each. I bought a case of 36. Now we need bagels lol.
Food is crazy expensive. Even the deals are still expensive. I buy bulk when I can and freeze extra. I am spending a lot on groceries. I'm also trying to stockpile as well so I'm not shopping as often. I used to shop every two to three days. I'd shop and prepare meals on the fly. Now......I buy extra and freeze. I'd love to have a 3 or 6 month supply on hand. But....I don't have the organization for that. Lol
If you have a store that is targeted towards people from the Middle East you can often find much cheaper tahini than in a standard store. It lasts for a long time so if you like hummus you can really make hummus yourself for very little if you invest in some tahini. If you want to make it yourself but don't want to buy tahini, buy sesame seeds and roast them in a pan and either mix that in your hummus or spread them on top. That is still pretty close in taste.
It is sad that we have all started sounding like our parents and grandparents… Remember when you could get eggs for $.59? But times are changing. It’s just crazy how expensive food is these days. Ridiculous. Just within the last year… It’s just crazy. Thanks for all the recipes.
Have you ever did the fish cakes in the air fryer?! If so, what temperature and how long did you cook them for?! I'm cutting all fried foods out of my diet due to my Crohn's.
Chicken salad is bomb! You haven't prepped that since.. like... Forever. Made me hungry for it 😋. Love you Jen.. been missing you too. But I'm happy you're taking summer time to enjoy the family more.
