A thoughtful and insightful look into so many underrated trails here in OC. Quality video. Thank you for putting this together! The sound in your video has improved too!
As of 22 July 2023 the SART is very safe, doesn't smell anymore, generally a really good ride. The only bad thing about clearing the homeless population and "rerouting" the trail as you put it, they removed all of the public restrooms. Even the porta pottys that were a bit further up the trail. Oh well, it's a much better ride now. Thanks for the cool video, I'm going to have to go south a bit now. I live close to Angel Stadium but this video showed me some good stuff
Thanks for your status update! I agree, the sart is a fine ride as of today. And thank you for watching! The south side is a very nice ride once you start smelling the ocean air. Some parks, open spaces etc. Hope you get a chance to check it out!
Very cute video! We have never been there and are planning a birthday outing there. I can already see we're going to have so much fun! Thank you for sharing and keep having fun. ❤
I was looking for new trails. I run the Huntington Beach and Santa Ana river trail frequently on my long run. I will try the others long one as well thank to you.
Fantastic video! Love the drone footage as well. I would also add #11: Salt Creek Trail (from Chapparosa Park to Salt Creek Beach). It's a short one, but one of my favorites. 😎
Well done. Subscribed. At 70+ I'll be cycling again on a Yamaha CrossCore and may have to bus or train in then ride home to Long Beach or visa versa. I had no idea the OC was so bike friendly. Thanks again
Thanks for subscribing! Honestly, I could’ve extended this video to cover the top 20. OC is secretly a great place to cycle! Have fun on your upcoming rides!
Sure! I would recommend the Brea Trail & Coyote creek starting in La Habrá or the El Cajon trail in Yorba Linda! All great but just nearly missed the top 10 for this video 👍 thanks for watching!
@@TrailsofCalifornia Gotcha! Yea, just whenever you get a chance! I used to work in Newport Beach a few feet from the Newport Back Bay and never stop to check it out. Drove by everyday for 13 years and never took the time to check it out. I'll do it soon tho... i did Trails #1 & #3, and you're absolutely right about the Wind in the afternoon it's extremely windy so bring Vest/Windbreaker if possible. Went from Bolsa Chica State Beach to Huntington and went through the Santa Ana riverbed all the way to Anaheim & back in time for Bon Fires at Bolsa Chica State Beach. Not sure if they allow Overnight parking/camping on the beach now but it used to be Overnight beach parking/camping $45 per Vehicle. Probably a lil too fast for a Date, but fun experience with significant others or partner.
Liked! FANTASTIC! Exactly what I needed for a Valentine's day ride with my wife. We have to drive 90 minutes to get to these locations but happy to do so to make it a day. Question: Are any of these paths in a loop so that one can start and end at the same point, but not have to backtrack on the same path? Thanks again.
Great news! I hope you two have a great Valentine’s Day. The only real “loop” trail on this list will be the Shady Canyon/turtle rock loop in south Irvine. It’s a beautiful route that takes you in and out of the wilderness. The loop will also take you along the 405 on the north end so see if you can spot it when traveling to it! I have a map in the video describing this route for the full loop. So check that out! Have fun!
Note: there’s one hill in particular that is pretty steep at the end of the ride (if traveling the direction this video recommends) outside of “quail hill community park”. Otherwise the rest is very flat. An ebike may be a good option as well for an easier loop!
Yes absolutely! Looks like you’re talking about a class 2 ebike. My video here explains everything you need to know! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y_kfrFeSrCk.html
If something feels unsafe, it’s probably unsafe. Simple and Genius, thank you for addressing the homeless, it is an issue and a safety problem. Very real view thanks
Thanks for the question! I just added the link in the video description but for you here it is! Maps by Franko Maps: Orange County frankosmaps.com/collections/trail-maps/products/orange-county-trail-guide
@@TrailsofCalifornia I'll usually start in Newport Back Bay and take Mountains to the Sea Trail to Peters Canyon Trail, then off that you can zig zag between Peters Cyn and Jeffery Rd through Freeway, San Diego Creek, Walnut, Venta Spur, and Hicks Cyn trails to get 25+ miles of trails. You can also link up to the Jefferey Open Space and Shady Cyn nearby. Their network of trails provides hours of no car riding.
@@nerigarcia7116 that’s so cool! Have you ever been to Davis, Ca? The whole city is inter connected with bike paths and bike lines similar to Amsterdam! I have a video on it! Check it out on a map
Yes I have! All the way from seal beach to Azusa and back! One of the longest continuous rides in the region. Love it! I would like to film a video for that trail at some point!
Man if only you could do other states too..like neighboring states..this channel would explode if you do that..a lot of people just want to ride bike paths..including me and my family but its been hard to find good bike path..
Thank you for your comment! Yes! I hope to one day build it up enough to first expand to the rest of California and then neighboring states! Resources always being the main factor (I run the channel on my own). If the channel continues growing hopefully I can devote more time to production and expand to these other areas like the ones you’re from! 🙌
I remembered your comment and wanted to add that I’ve started a new channel focusing on northern and central cal. Follow youtube.com/@ridecalifornia-qj9cv !
Glad you enjoyed the video! As far as guides go, I personally reference this book quite often. "enCYCLEpedia Southern California 2nd Edition" You can find it on Amazon. I have no affiliation to it but it's a great book. It breaks down bike routes in LA, OC, SD and the Inland Empire. Definitely worth the $20.00! "Franko Maps" are also great bike specific maps for the entire region. You might find them in local bike stores like I have or also on amazon. They appear in my videos from time to time. In fact, they appeared a few times in this one. Hope that helps, Thanks for watching!
There are plenty of mountain bike trails around the OC area. Maybe not all designed exclusively for MTB but still great options. Try the bommer canyon nature loop in Irvine, Peter canyon regional park in Tustin or the Fullerton loop! Hope that helps.
Although pristine and beautiful as the video indicates, the Huntington Beach path is not so safe. Since this video was posted there has been a proliferation of persons riding electric things: Ebikes, E unicycle things, E skate boards, etc. These persons move at great rates of speed with no regard to bicycle riders and pedestrians. The expecirence of pedaling a beach cruiser along this path has essentially been ruined.
