Hi guys! Thanks for your awesome videos! Watching in preparation of my trip at Christmas. =) I just have a quick question: You talked about hairdryers being provided but do hostels in New Zealand generally also provide towels or do you always need to hire them? Or does it depend on the hostel?

Hey there, thanks for watching! Great question! No you should not expect to be given a towel when checking in in a hostel, however, almost every hostels will have towels for hire and generally, hostel private rooms will come with a towel though. How long will you trip around for during your Christmas holiday here?

BackpackerGuide.NZ Thanks for the quick reply! =) We'll be in New Zealand for 3 weeks. If we need to hire towels, I might think about buying one or two just for the trip... I guess you can see on the hostel's website if towels are for hire or included, right?

Nice one! 3 weeks will give you plenty of time to see heaps! I bet you have watched a lot of our activities videos to do your itinerary haha. Yeah I would definitively buy a towel if I were you, in fact, I would get a microfiber towel, it's light, it dries super fast and it is pretty cheap. I think we use this one (or similar) -> amzn.to/2hsO74v To answer your question, most hostels website are very basic so you'll probably learn about towel hire only when checking in or maybe send them an email before booking.

Yep, it will :) Nothing you can do about it, it is one of the "cost" of backpacking :(

New Zealand is really safe, you should be ok as long as you don't flout your expensive gears around :)
