I was at my local giant store in central Pennsylvania on Saturday. A woman was in front of me. Her large cart was about a third full. Her bill was over $400. Wow. I remember hearing people say that their monthly food bill was as much as their mortgage. Now, I can see why. I spend about $60 a week for two adults. I usually save close to half with sales and coupons. But, god bless people that don’t have the time to do that. I’d be upset if I spent $400 every week. I usually cook at home. I just don’t understand why people think that voting for Kamala and the Democrats are going to help them. I feel like I am watching a train wreck in really slow motion and I can’t stop it!!!! Hang in there people.
its very sad, being VERY frugal is going to be the only way for many of us to stay afloat , so many people are using credit cards for monthly expenses, like food and gas etc, ( out of necessity) . and its not getting better, its getting worse
I took some grocery receipts from March 2022 and checked the prices now-overall it was 87.9% increase. Now, my pet food was 112.7% from the same time period. A single pack of cat food that used to be $0.69 is now $1.65, a bag of food that used to be $32 is now $67 … just two examples of pet food. It’s ridiculous..what’s more ridiculous is the people who believe the lies they’re spewing. They do not include groceries, utilities, fuel or housing in their “inflation numbers”. ❤❤There’s hope though….in Jesus Christ-and Salvation is free if we choose to accept such a wonderful, blessed gift. I’ve thought about the turmoil going on … if it takes things getting worse for some to come to the Saving Grace of Jesus Christ-it will be worth every obstacle we face. The best is yet to come for my brothers and sisters in Christ 🙏🥰
I’m seeing cans of soup dropping from 15 ounces to 10 ounces also. Lots of “ shrinkage “ is the cute little euphemism they use. Jesus is the only solution
My 91yr old mom's favorite yogurt, is a lemon Greek at Aldi's. I used to pay $2.29 for the large container and it's now $4.10. My step dad loves the "organic" vanilla, and it's gone up from $3.30 to $5.49. If I had a cow, I'd be making my own butter, yogurt, cheese and of course cream! Keeping calcium and vitamin D is important for the elderly, and they HAVE to want to eat it! Yogurt was a good way to milk products into them, but now I'm just making tapioca... They are ok with it, yet they have worked their entire lives and are literally priced out of life. Without me caring for them, they wouldn't be able to pay the bills... It's just getting very hard. I doubt I'll have enough money left for my own old age. At 67 tomorrow, if I live as long as they have, I'll be flat broke. Literally.
My parents are 91 and I'll be 67 in Nov. Same. My parents have SS and a military pension. I don't need to help them financially. I had kids late and have 3 kids in their 20s and help them to an extent. Looking at it straight in the face makes me hostile.
If you have an instant pot you can make yogurt. Very easy and sooo much cheaper and healthier. Just a thought for you. You can also substitute it for sour cream 😊
Not only our human food, but also our animals food ALSO as far as inflation goes.Even some of the sacks went from 50# to 40# and cost more and we buy the cheapest..shrinkage
Hello from New Zealand! Our quart canning jars are the equivalent of $4.90 usd EACH! It’s hard to get them here in bulk, most are sold as singles in our supermarkets. Canning has not been big here in the past. When I started in May 2022 I had never heard of it nor knew anyone doing it in my whole 47 years….but it sure is increasing now!
I have unintentionally lost weight the last 2 years just by no longer buying little extras, skipping dinner sometimes and not going out to eat very often. I call it the inflation diet lol
I lost my major weight over 2years purposefully but I Keep losing down to 119 not feeling strong i lost another 5 # in two months and dont know how to gain Hopefully winter biscuits n gravy will pack on tha 10# where i feel healthier n stronger .to dang hot now to wanna eat
The dog shelters are full because everyone got a dog or cat during Covid and I told my husband watch, as soon as this is over the people will dump the animals and then the shelters will be full
Yes, they mentioned this on the local news too. Also some did the same 'adopting' loads of house plants and then were bored with them, didn't want to care for them and so forth and they ended up in the dumpster.
Bought Wal-Mart great value classic medium roast instant coffee 12 ounce jar on August 6 for $5.24 went to reorder on August 18 it is now $7.24 That's a $2.00 increase in less than two weeks. Sure inflation is going down.
If that was at Walmart, I heard they are marking down because they are going to stop selling beans and rice in 20 lb bags. It will be interesting to see if they are on the shelf in 2 months
I saw someone on a channel, I don't remember who, but they brought up the fact that if you ordered your groceries on the Walmart app, you can look at your history, so I brought up an order that I made last October and then hit the "reorder everything" button (you don't have to actually purchase it) IT WAS A SHOCKER! Last October i paid $36 for an order that when I hit "reorder all" it came to $97!!!! Yikes!😡
I did the same thing from 2021, and it went from $87 to over $200. I used to spend around 700-800 feeding 5 people, now I am lucky if I can make a month on 1500.
Full disclosure here and I need I feel like I need to provide context and a little bit of education about food and the prices of food today. My husband owns a large commercial bakery in the Midwest. If I gave you the name of the product that they make, you would probably be able to find it in your grocery store. They have been in business for 125 years. I understand that for the average citizen youfeel the crunch in food. But you have to understand the larger picture. All of this is not driven by grocery store greed and supplier greed. This is driven by government, these price increases. And that really should be, your larger discussion. Consider the fact that health insurance, property tax insurance, the cost of housing, have gone up exponentially in the last 5 to 10 years. Store and commercial food companies, and even the smaller food, suppliers and small grocery store chains and individual Mom and Popp shops are seeing huge increases in Taxes, the cost to provide insurance for their employees has gone through the roof tripling in prices. If Kamala Harris asks price controls, it will have a devastating ripple effect across the food chain. If you are complaining now about a box of pasta going from $.99 to $1.50 per box… Wait until all the Mom and Pop, local small and medium grocery stores go out of business because again, their margins are only 1% to 5%. That is the honest honest truth. They would all go out of business and you and your neighbor and your community would be forced to stand in line at Walmart for your box of now $2.50 Box of pasta. I’m telling you, you need to refocus your energy on the drivers for the increase in food prices. So many food companies would go out of business. Because they are only right now trying to survive to be able to provide you with options. It’s the insurance company. It’s the health and pharmaceutical company. It’s the government that are putting so much burden and price increases and corporate tax increases on food industries all across the board whether they’re large or whether they’re small and the smaller people simply cannot handle the burden without increasing their prices just to break even every year.
Thank you for your input. I believe you. On fixed income..can hardly afford insurance anymore. House and old car insurance is $413/ month. We are sinking.
Everything is up. Eat as cheaply as you can. Make one trip do many things. We try to only go out twice a month. (With the exception of Dr's. vists.) It's safer and cheaper. Depending on the human chaos that may arise we'll be going out even less. Summer is coming to an end, prepare accordingly.
I agree w that. It’s the double whammy that’s so terrible and then the addition of additives and geo to everything they’re sneaking it into on TOP of it So if you actually want to stay healthy or ahead of the curve it’s near impossible at this juncture.
I stopped by Aldi this afternoon for a few things. They had sent out a coupon for ten dollars off a forty dollar purchase. I decided to stock up on a few items and managed to spend $70. Thank you Aldi for the $10 coupon.
My grocery bill has more than doubled in the past 2 years. I can't say tripled because I didn't actually document it. I just know when I leave the store, I spend 150 to 250 dollars when I used to think 100 was a lot. Add in the fact that shrinkflation is also present and yep, tripled is possible! Wow. Remember bacon was usually a pound pkg? Now many are 12 oz packages for a lot more money.
I work for an Albertsons in oregon. My favorite homeless bacon went up another 50 cents yesterday. It now is 12.49. So I looked over at the Oscar meyer bacon it is now 11.99.
Thanks Patara. I went shopping for a few groceries today. WOW! It's just getting worse! I was SHOCKED at some of the prices I saw at our local Walmart. Fortunately, here in Central PA we have a lot of nearby Amish farms where I can by great produce at very reasonable prices. At this point, I truly do not know how many people are going to keep body and soul together. All the best to you from the mountains of Central PA.
A crockpot is a wonderful thing. Yet so many refuse to use one, supper almost ready when you come home from work. Mix up some biscuits or coleslaw to finish the meal.
@@MargaretFinnellyes indeed! My whole life working I always used mine and yes it was a life saver. I'm old and we are retired and have not been anywhere to eat out in four years or more.
For those interested in a dog or cat, many rescues have foster programs and some cover the expenses of food, medicine and vet care. Some even pay for training. I adopted through GRRAND out of Louisville, Lexington and Cincinnati. Right now they have many Golden retrievers, great Pyrenees, Golden doodles. They have great dogs right now that need foster homes. Check them out if your in the triangle area and are looking to foster...or adopt. Some incredibly cute puppies and mamas too. They get dogs from Amish and other breeders that are shut down, from rural county shelters, from owners who have had life changes.
Patara, thanks so much for these videos, I know these videos take a lot of work to put together, but they are SO helpful and much appreciated, crazy that half the country votes for this. thank you!!!!
Almost 19,000 views. We need to be hitting the like button. This is information that most of us don't even think about. But soon we will have to. Thank you ma'am for everything you do
I wrote down all the items you just talked about. I work for kroger. I'm going to check prices as I work. I did hear through work that all prices at all stores for everything, not just food, are suppose to really jump in prices next month. I will check again and take notes when that happens. I'm in WA state. Going to keep notes on gas prices also.
Well if Commie-la has her way they will control food prices. She thinks Krogers is price gouging. Yet the data shows the profit margin at grocery stores is very slim due to the competition. That being said we need to stop these stores from being gobbled up by other stores. There are fewer and fewer places to shop so they can charge what they want.
So glad we shopped to hedge against inflation. Still buying 5 cans a week. Thanks for all your advice along the way. I love their refried beans and chili beans.😊
Lord says ! FEAR not ! Great I'M , Lion of Judah! do not worry says Lord ! must know what is going on but have Faith! God is in control ! Praise the Lord!
Not only are prices going up and the amounts in the package going down..... it's being poisoned. I now go into the grocery store and like a military drill....i try to find non-poisoned food. I almost feel a sense of dread once i hit the store door
I am somewhere between mad as a hornet and frustrated when I go grocery shopping. I keep saying "what did I even get that cost that much"? 🤦♀️😡 I make my own laundry detergent, vanilla, mayonnaise along with some other items. We just started making our own green tea with honey and lemonade. We can barely go out to eat anymore so you know who all that stress of cooking every meal falls on don't you. Yea, Mom! My blessed mother takes the kids to the grocery store and gets them snacks and things I just can't afford now. 😢 I really hate it. But I keep praying Lord give us this day our daily bread and don't give me an easy life, please make me a stronger person, courageous and able to walk in victory in spite of the negative circumstances
Can you talk about car insurance next ? My car insurance was just under $1,000 per year. They just raised it to $1,530 per year. No accidents, no tickets. Same car a year older. I spend about $50 a month in gas. I tried finding a cheaper rate, but there wasn't one. I believe insurance companies have a monopoly going on.
Patara, very nice to see you, thank you so much for doing this. We all know what’s going on. I know they don’t think we do but we do. If we don’t prepare, we get ourselves ready. We’re all gonna be in a world of hurt. I appreciate you and all you do tell James, the boys and all the animals from me. Sending you blessings, prayers, much love, and a great big hug.❤🙏
The Democrats tell us that inflation is at 3% I know that is a bunch of malarkey because I bought a half bag of groceries last week and it was $59 (the bag was only 1/2 full) and I didn’t buy any meat, just milk, yogurt, and veggies
Not only food/grocery inflation, but as a market farmer, I've noticed my inputs have risen in price substantially. Most noticeably, 3CF of peat moss is now double what it was just a year ago. No coco coir doesn't work. It inhibits germination. Prices have consistently risen, year after year, also for chemical, fertilizer, etc.
We are on limited income working hard on paying house off. Also, getting baby formula put back for newborn grandson to help supplement my daughter breat milk. My son-in-law doesn't think they should stockpile on items , but my daughter does.
I am doing the same thing. Our grandbaby is due in November but we are getting a head start for our daughter. She breast feeds also but you never know and if it's not needed we will give to whoever needs it.
In the last year we bought cases of black beans and great northern beans from Aldi's. The store is 30 miles from our home. Opened 2 cans of each the other day for a fast supper, the cans were all 1/2 beans and 1/2 water. It took 2x the amount to equal what was normal a year ago. Now that math will blow your mind. It is really something if you really look at it hard!!
🦋🇺🇸👍I was at a Giant in Central Pennsylvania. I got 3 Tomatoes and lettuce for Salad. One Tomato was rotten and I had to throw away 1/3 of the lettuce because it had dark spots on the outside leaves. I got the cheap brand of smoked ham and it was almost 7.00 for a 1/2 lb 😢. I had moved to a place in the middle of May and I could have a small garden per my landlord. I got a few veggies off of it and I am grateful. No vehicle because I can’t afford it. Sending Prayers to Everyone 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I went to my Aldi this evening. Prices are definitely up and there were a lot of holes this evening. I'm grateful for taking your advice and stocking up. Love and appreciate you and this family here! God Bless!
I used to buy heavy whipping creme because it was cheaper to make my own butter, the half gallon was $2.39 at Walmart, yest the same half gallon was $9.69 I kid you not! This is at the Owensville Missouri Walmart!
You don’t even want to know what prices are in Alaska! $49 the other day just for six dairy items! If a certain nutter gets in, and we get “price controls”, the prices will go up through short supply. Hope that is obvious to everyone here.
Patara, thanks to you I bake my own bread now ❤ You are a gem & im so grateful to have found your channel. It’s been a good 6-7 years now I’ve been following & have learned so much.
I have been purchasing Auguson farms food buckets for years. I decided to add some more and ordered some oatmeal buckets this week . 25 year shelf life . I purchased 3 huge white rice buckets a few years ago and now they are double what they were. 😔
Pet food prices are outrageous! I run a small sanctuary for animals with medical and special needs. Feeding our 30 fur babies healthy food has become very challenging over the past few years. Our doors are now closed to being able to help anymore animals in need. 😿
I have rescued 25 dogs since Covid! I currently have 8 on my homestead. I also have 4 rescued cats. These are my permanent fur babies ❤ But if I can help any animal, I will even though the pet food is outrageous. Please start a GO Fund ME for your rescue. Best of Luck to you
Good morning Patera. Thank you for keeping track. I know we shop the sales as much as possible. You have to anymore. I couldnt imagine having to raise my kids on todays prices.
Great work keeping up with the groceries Patara! Thank you for the info. Some other things that we’ve seen go up astronomically is gas, power & water bills, and dog food etc!! My bag of science hill dog food used to be around $45 pre 2020 and is now $85-$90!!!! I had to switch to Iam’s…larger bag than science hill at around $40.
Your tally was how I persuaded my husband to prep. It appealed to his wallet! LOL! He proudly told his young cousin this weekend how much a simple can of soup was and what it is now. That was the eye opener that the young man needed. So not only did you win over my husband, he is now forwarding the knowledge. Sadly still blinkered for everything else, but better than nothing! Cheers Patara xxx
Wowser 😡😡😡 I knew the heavy whipping cream was 329 and I went and bought it last night at 5:39 I was so mad can't even make a dessert for your family anymore this is just ridiculous these prices yeah they're lying you better know they're lying I can't thank you enough I can't thank you thank you thank you thank you and God bless you
Wanted to let you know, I write my groceries on a list in my kitchen every time I use something. I mark it down to replace the same groceries i used for that month. I went to replace it at Aldi's where I shop every month. my groceries went up 87.62 from last month 😮
I consider the essential items that take most of my budget is 1. Housing 2.Water and sewer 3. Food. 4. Fuel for the car. 5. Insurance: vehicle, house, umbrella, health, 6. personal care.
Teenagers have hollow legs, esp boys! The days of all the kids going to each other's houses & snacking are over! I even heard if one Mama sending a child home from a play date w/a bill for all the food she ate!!!
Not only are the prices going up ,but the size is shrinking. I don't throw anything away. If I can't can it I find a way to utilize it and feed the animals. And I feel if I'm feeding my animals I'm not wasting it.
Weve seen a jump of almost 2 times higher in ONE year...we typically buy same things, but after a year we are now nearly paying double, so rotating is becoming a lot pricier
And if you’ve also look at the canned goods like the corn and beans, there is more water than there are product so it weighs the same, but you’re getting less product from more money
I haven't seen can goods on sale for a while. I see junk.. chip, cokes, boxed processed food on sale mostly. My local HEB will have chicken legs for 99 cents/lb or leg quarters in large bag for 49 cents/lb once a month. I do not shop weekly so I don't keep up on prices that well. If I am in or near the store I do pick up my 5 cans.. tuna, beans or some vegetable etc. Right now I need to organize the large pantry 😢. I stocked up on spices from Ollie's a few months ago. I'm afraid to even ask my granddaughter what she wants for Christmas this year. I usually go overboard but not this year. I do need to get busy making a list.
I’ve enjoyed seeing these videos that you’ve documented! Some things have been up and down, but dang…. No one can argue inflation these days!!! Thanks for taking the time to do the math and share it!
Patara, are you seeing or hearing about a really debilitating bug like RSV going around in your area. My elderly brother and his wife live in Sparta and they said it is going around. They barely have energy to walk. Thank God for their church. No family in the area. And my brother-in-law is in the hospital in New Bern, NC and they said there are a lot of cases of Covid and a RSV bug there, too. Praying for our everyone to stay safe and well. Anyone else have anything like this going on in their area?
Preach about that grape jelly girl! I used to load up on it in the spring to feed the orioles. The last couple years I’ve only bought a jar or two at each shopping trip when I can.
