Very useful! Spent about 20 minutes trying to fit this link, failed, watched this video and tried again, and it popped straight on! I think watching someone struggle, and then suceeding (like Robert the Bruce watching the spider) gave me confidence. Dumb design though. Not as good as the push and slide one that I had on previously.
The secret to installing this link is to do the opposite of the instructions. The instructions has the connecting left and then right. Was easy when connect hole to right and then left. Also, what kind of instruction (Shimano instructions not this video) says “depression should be on the outside”? I was like..what the ........ I didn’t understand a word on the video but him struggling with the chain was relatable.
I laughed so hard watching this. Didn’t understand a word he said, but I’m pretty sure he was thinking the same thing as I was when he was trying to get that darn quick link on! 😂
The trick is to not be afraid of bending the non-slotted plate so the ends of the pins come closer together. The non-slotted plate is very springy and won't be permanently deformed.
Yeah I got it after that using the part of my link plier that holds spare links, to grab the link and closed the plier over it. With the other side in the chain I could bend it
I was like this for ages. But its simpler. You need to bend the 2 pin heads inwards so they appear closer together. You do this by pushing the link away from you. And slip the cover over it. It should pop in. Not too much force needed.
Agree, even though the instructions indicated this, the way you said it made it click so much easier!

I tried today, had some old chain. After 10 minutes breaking my fingers, took a pin and connected the old chain. The dumbest system ever designed by Shimano!
I agree and did the same thing just took out a pin with a chain breaker. Shimano should be ashamed even putting something like this on the market. Quick link? after spending an hour trying to put this pos on a bike you might think different
Someone should take the engineers who designed this system and rough them up a bit . I have been at this for hours and my thumbs are hurting from all the pressing and I finally figured it out. The quick link behaves like spring steel and bends slightly ,maybe a millimeter, inward allowing the other pin to lock into the slot on the quick link plate .
@@xVoLAnD I tried that earlier but I finally snapped it in . I didn't know how much pressure to apply before the chain breaks and thankfully it didn't or I would have been out twenty bucks .
I was about to give up on installing mine when I saw this video and realised you just to push it until you feel like it's going to break. Thanks a million, man, keep on the good work
i gave up on "quick link" i use the chain drift tool... i saw other type of quick link but don't know if really easier .. but apparently people accostumed to use these link do it easily but when i try, it's not the same
01:52 No offense Vitalii - but that's *exactly* why I'm here, watching your video. I *can't* press the damn thing into its place. 02:48 Jesus Christ! I'm going to purchase another pin, closing the chain without a lock. This seems to be a nightmare. 04:29 Okay - I try that as a last resort [switching sides]. Absolute horror. Nonetheless - useful video. Thumbs up.
@@xVoLAnD I switched sides, just the way you did, and finally I was able to press it in its proper place and it locked. I hope mine will not (break) ;-) So - thank you very much, Vitalii.
It hurt watching this video but he did it in the end, I'll give it another go now that I understand the chain bending trick that my original instructions failed to teach me.
Oh, not that I could understand but knowing this was possible made me persevere. Basically if you bend the link inwards you can get that half mm or so of flex to get the pin in the slot. Thanks! Still, crap design though.
I’m seeming to have difficulty, despite the instructions in the comments. When I try to push the chain away from me, the pins out of the holes and I can’t fet the link to fasten. Is it possible to just force it on with a pair of pliers?
You won't be able to do this, because it has strong metal. Actually, it's easy when you do it. You need to somehow break the chain ... and then everything will fall into place.
Update: got the chain on successfully. Like many others in the comments, I got it on right away after switching to the opposite pin. That being said, terrible design but an grateful this video exists to assist!
I don't feel so stupid now after watching someone else struggle with this ridiculous design. I expected more from Shimano. Surely the other style of quick link is better. They slot together relatively easily. Removing a chain is my least favourite part of bike maintenance. It always takes me ages and this KMC lock does not help things. I ended up using a pair of pliers to clip it on.
When I looked at my master link the side that had the two pins, out of the packet, was already bent the other way making the two pins further away from eachother than a standard link. With it like this there was NO way I could have ever popped the link connector on. I took two sets of pliers and bent the pins closer together and the link connector popped on fine.
@@xVoLAnD у меня штук пять таких замочков скопилось. Поковырял, понажимал - да и выбросил. Sram / KMC намного лучше, еще и снимаются удобно клещами или монтажками специальными.

I had about the same experience that's why I'm here except it's still not done Fucking shit.
