I would never buy a second hand turbo Falcon XR , a better option would be but a standard XR manual ute or sedan in good condition then upgrade your engine with a high quality turbo kit which includes good quality pistons con rods injectors, I would also get the stock head reworked with high quality valves and springs. My brother worked in engine reconditioning knows what to do just give him the parts and a few hundred bucks and a couple of slabs and Bob's your sister!
Glad I’m not the only one who buys parts and hardware when they’re cheap- not because I need them, but because I predict they’ll fail way down the track. Hope the family is well!
I see the beverage can is back in the video. Out of Ford & Holden, it's hard to say which fuel injectors are harder to replace. I replaced all of mine on my Holden ute over a year ago & have had no problems since. Another great video Sean, can't wait to until you get this finished.
The running problem was caused by misconfigured Injector dead times - watch the update here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_Ac9vZau5Dc.html
I`m always keen to watch any trouble shooting content you have, the more the better. Nothing wrong with even having the 30 minute vids as well. cheers james.
The chewed up hex socket bolt in the throttle body, use a size up in torx bit hammered in- trying that with a hex bit leaves no room for the excess metal to go except to shallow up the depth in the hole, then it just chews it up more- Try the Torx bit! You find the metal binds around the torx shape better. I don't understand why you've taken off the air intake manifold to change the injectors- you can work around the intake manifold for less time overall. But yes it makes it easier to work in there ok! The short injector is designed for the FG.
..... XB was the best looking of that era, instrument cluster layout, bucket seats, 12 slots. No wonder 'Main Force Patrol' chose them ! (We're still in the game Max).
Cheers for the heads up on the bov. As you said, probably the awesome wiring hack that the last owner had done on the ecu. I’m sure that it’ll be an easy fix. Lovin the series buddy.
U are doing all the mods I'm doing. I have a ba xr6, and I'm really nervous about flooding the motor with 2 much fuel. I bought a ecu from a mechanic on ebay. He was really nice to me and he did a custom tune and flashed it. Then he posted it to me. He reckons 650cc injectors are perfect for 550hp. I know he's a professional with barra motors, so don't believe everything about having to use 1000cc injectors 2 get the sort of hp I'm chasing. Maybe you should think about getting a couple of fire extinguishers for your baby. You sell yourself short mate, u can use a computer well and you have a mechanical mind. Thanks again for showing me things that I have been thinking about for ages.
Thank you mate. I actually have a fire extinguisher mounted in the car and filmed a video showing the installation if you're interested. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zJHygI4aLcQ.html
650cc to get 550hp? on 98 maybe. im unsure on my injector duty cycle but i know its high enough id struggle to make much more than my current 370kw on e85 with the deka 60's i have. If you want your car to last, get a proper tune, not a mail order tune. As far as people choosing 1000cc, there isnt really a reason not to these days. Its a minimal price increase and they idle like stock and leaves you with much more head room.
Hey mate, love the channel, I know it’s an old video but I just learnt my EPMAN BOV is installed around the wrong way, and so is yours. The bottom port of the EPMAN BOV is the boost side, the side port is the dump side. I installed my one the same direction as the factory Bosch BOV which I’ve learnt is not correct. Sort of made sense in the end because the little trumpet you get in the pack that screws on the side so you can vent to atmosphere would not work when the bottom of the BOV is connected to the low pressure side (before turbo) of your in air intake.
The biggest difference is when you unscrew the top and want to make it softer it works. Because boost was coming into the side it was effectively just blocking it off, same if you used a rubber plug and deleted the BOV all together. Obviously the EPMAN BOV didn’t come with instructions but looking at other brands like Turbosmart instructions manuals, they all suggest flipping the direction compared to the Bosch which makes sense, vacuum pulls from the top, boost pushes from the bottom and vents out the side, and thats where you can attach that little trumpet that come in the pack to vent to atmosphere.
I had a similar issue when I did my intake gasket. I managed to swap around the only 2 connectors that are the same, the one on the throttle body and the one on the plenham. (Can't remember exactly where is goes)
Awsome video even though mine being n/a no need upgraded injectiors but great video well done hopefully u find the little hiccup and be sweet straight 6 again
Thanks for this vid Sean. I think my map sensor is playing up on 'White'. I was wondering if it might be easier to get to if I took off the same parts you did here instead of just the throttle body. Also just recently replaced the injectors with 'updates'. Now it's running rough, so I'm not sure if they may not be talking to the ECU properly, or it's a co-incidence and the MAP sensor failed at that time. It went from running real clean plugs to filthy black.
I love how you're keeping the factory look. My FG will forever be stock so long as I own it. In my personal opinion, what you've done is too much modifying haha but each to their own, as you say!
"Inner hex". Better known as Socket head cap screws or Allen screws. No need to buy the genuine Ford as Unbrako Cap screws have been around forever and are available from most bolt suppliers. Nothing better.
Awesome video. I've got stripped throttle body bolts on my XR6 throttle body too from a mechanic replacing my inlet gasket. Just wondering what the Part Number is for the bolts if you know?
440's would be better for a stock turbo, I want to put bosch 295cc injectors into my barra (naturally aspirated) but is that too much? Apart from headers and a hi flo I haven't done anything to it @ 117, 000k's. Bosch says for "hot n/a's and mild turbos" I wouldn't really call mine warm I was advised it needed to be tuned after the headers were installed, I hardly drive it so I haven't. Do you think its worth putting them in upon dyno tuning? because I want put new laser iridium spark plugs in too.
I bet the figure for the injectors is too high. Engine starts and runs for a bit from cranking pulses, but then can't idle because injectors are not flowing as much as the ECU thinks. Engine position error is a red herring and is being triggered because the engine stopped 'unexpectedly'.... Was I right?
P0373 isn't a documented fault in BA workshop manual! is it a custom Haltech code? You are lucky you didn't strip the thread in alloy intake manifold overtightening the bolts.
Some people say silicone grease, some people say Vaseline - with both products also having arguments against why you shouldn't use them. I just use Vaseline 😁
@@MotoringBoxTV I was taught to use a product called rubber grease on orings especially as we were assembling diesel engines with wet cyl sleeves apparently vaseline being a petroleum product can break the oring down over time. The rubber grease is really slippery i have used it also for fitting extremely tight silicone hoses. It was made by PBR.
@@MotoringBoxTV same, i just used a small amount of petroleum jelly. It only needs to be enough so that when youre sliding the injectors in it doesnt pinch the oring and move it
Up the polyurethane gloves! I always get shit for wearing them from the lads but it's nice not bleeding like a stuck pig every time I stick my hands in the engine bay.
Phew, i would miss your videos if something happened. But serious removing the negative terminal is good practice for all mechanical work. Helps stop shorts and stuff when pulling and moving wires
Talking of injectors...or rather nozzles. Anyone know how to access the windscreen washer pipes and jets on a Falcon? Maybe a video on it, hint hint... : )
The injectors you installed are standard territory ones. SORRY but stuffing the head on those Allan head bolts is not on Use the proper size key. I have never damaged a Allan head bolt in 55 years of repairing engines
