The EFXtra is a fast sports plane, and not the sort of aircraft you'd normally put INAV into. However my buddy decided that's what he wanted to do and I so I helped.
Hopefully this video will help anyone else who wants to do the same. Running INAV on the EFXtra means you can have a OSD that shows just how fast you're going, as well as give you the usual features of INAV such as RTH and launch mode.

You think one can put the ET micro vector in the same space? I have seen you do it with the mpx dogfighter ;) I'm soon about to jump off the fence and buy the efxtra.. but doing research for now.. Ps. love your channel!

you can get rid of the lines in the video by running the power to the crossfire rx through an lc filter (maybe your fc has a built in one?)

Congratulations for your detailed video. May ask you how long is flight with extra, maximum I mean, and which lipo are you using with such configuration?? Then, is it finally suggestible to work a lot for a limited flight time , despite an adrenaline point of view, or it's possible to get an appreciable result anyway?? To a lot

Gian Luca Mazza i got about 6 mins on a 2200 4s graphene. Which is par for the course for this plane. Was great fun. But had an untimely end on a bad launch. Which caused bigger problems down the line. Of only it was epp.. .

THANKS A LOT. Now i undestand a lot more about wiring! question: if i will use a Sbus, i will use G and 5V for three element-> sbus, buzzer and GPS...correct? And can i use the same setup with a flingwing (esc and two servos)? And Happy new year!
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 лет назад
FPV Daniele Yeah you could use the same hardware in a flying wing. Like you said, you'd just use 2 servos instead of 4. In inav use one of the wing presets instead of the airplane preset. And yes, GPS, Rx and buzzer all run off the 5v pads on the board

How many of those 5 UARTs are accessible?
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 лет назад
Robin Bayer 3 of the UARTS are dedicated pads on the board, 1 UART is for sbus, and the 5th UART is accessed through the ribbon cable plug. So in theory you can access all 5, although practically on this particular build only 3 could be used.

I'm right in the middle of my build and only just found your video. I actually relocated the rudder/elevator servos to the rear and plan on using their original spot to house the FC. Hopefully I've got enough room for everything. Was considering using the TBS Sixty9 for control/vTX. Excellent video.

How much space is there for a battery? I’m looking for a plane that can go fast and stay in the air for at least 30 minutes. Thanks in advance

I don't know how many times I watch this build but I can't even count. Would be nice to do a follow-up like an overview and another longer flight it seems very stable and certainly is very fast. but would love to see more pictures and more video of it up close and some more speedruns. Thanks for all the hard work you put into all these videos. Best regards from Northern California Rob

Great build, and an ambitious one considering the install difficulties. Im amazed the video is as clean as this because you took VBATT directly from the (Noisy) ESC feed point and fed it not only to the the FC but the VTX and Camera as well. The trick with the LC filter is to filter the raw VBATT before feeding the FC / VTX / Camera with noisy power.

Q: I see from the iNav configurator Version 1.9.2 after using "general airplane" that one uses S1/S2 for the motor. But in your setup S2 up to S5 are used for servos. Was there a change in iNav since your video? I see there is a Matek405 "S6 Servo" Firmware I could use to fit all to the standards as shown in the configurator. But all in all your setup does not fit to the configurator that you used in the video. Could you please heal my confusion? A lot of thanks!
@KaiPosadowsky
@KaiPosadowsky 6 лет назад
Uhh... should have a deeper look first. Sorry for stupid question. The answer can be found here github.com/iNavFlight/inav/blob/master/docs/Board%20-%20MatekF405.md#flying-wing - I think the only 'bug' is the schema in the configurator itself.

Cool video. I have had some issues with my flight controller and fpv hooked to the same bec as my servo's. Now I just use 2 bec's, no more fc glitches and way less chance of getting bad video.

@@gizfpv Thanks, its a 20x20 FC also, so should be fine and maybe give me a bit of future proofing. Planning on doing a pan and tilt headtracked DJI version, probably on 3S. I'll get some videos up if it all works out ok. Cheers.

Awesome video, inspired to build one. I've followed your video instructions. Except installed Inav 2.6.1 on the FC. I'm using the native crossfire protocol in options. I use a 5V bec to power the servo's (was easier for me to wire and save me from cutting the open the wrapping in the ESC). Only problem I'm having is that no matter what I do the S5 (servo 5) pad used for the rudder will not work. It's mapped to servo 5 "Stabilized Yaw" and I can see it moving in the output page and the reciever page. The actual servo in the plane just locks to fully in one direction 🤔 Not sure what's going on did you have any similar issues
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 3 года назад
Hmm that sounds odd. Not really sure what to suggest. Have you tried another servo? To rule out the current one possibly being faulty?
@metalmonkey1113
@metalmonkey1113 3 года назад
@@gizfpv thanks for the quick reply and advice. I've tested the servo (with a servo tester and plug it a working channel) it's working fine. I then soldered another servo plug to pad s6 and hook up 5v and ground and assigned to Inav to yaw etc. But again didn't work 🤔 It's seem pad s5 & s6 are mapping but not working. I double checked my Radio mapping, all good, Inav see yaw movements, tested S5 and S6 plugs with a multi meter, power is at the end of the plugs. Right now I'm a bit baffled, and seem to be going around in circles - lol 🥴 I am considering using a servo slipter on the Alierons, putting them both on S3 and using S4 for rudder instead of S5. Not sure if that will work with Inav mixing? this is only my second build with Inav, previous build was a AR900 wing.

Can I ask what firmware version you flashed to the board.
@metalmonkey1113
@metalmonkey1113 3 года назад
Sorry to keep posting here, made some progress, seems the S5 pad on FC is now used for the LED signal wire in the lastest firmware for the MATEKF405. S6 pad is for servo. www.mateksys.com/?portfolio=f405-std#tab-id-6

Hey Giz..... i think i figured out what my Dumb a$$ did...... i never down loaded the R-XSR firmware onto my new Taranis Xlite. and im assuming its just not seeing "ANY" receiver l... lol gonna give it a Whirl.... wish me luck JD

James Donahue Did you get it working?
@jamesdonahue5299
@jamesdonahue5299 6 лет назад
actually YES .... YEAH !!!! good news i used a different Rx, ( S6R ) cuz the X4r-sb for some reason the rudder channel was pulsing the servo violently !!!!! & BAD news (for me anyway) is i took out the "INAV set up and went regular.... but now that its working i may change it back some day...... another dumb question for you..... is there anything special to do when you take a receiver out of a drone and bind it to a different Plane ????
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 лет назад
I don't think so? The receiver doesn't know what aircraft it's in, all it knows (and needs to know) is which transmitter its bound too

Neil Agravante I'm not sure you can add a barometer, but you don't need one. You can get good altitude information from the GPS unit

Nice Vid! Do you know any other FCs that have 6 or more Pwm outputs without conflicting uarts? I am working on a similar build but on my omnibus f3 pro i can only use 4 of 8 pwm outputs because pwm 5-8 is blocked by uart(sbus) and I2c...
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 лет назад
On the Omnibus F3 you can enable pwm 5+6 if you use a UART to connect your rx rather than use the sbus pin. Connect your sbus rx to either RX1 or RX2 and disable any functions on uart3, and then uart 3 will default to pwm output and can be used for servos
@henningm9823
@henningm9823 6 лет назад

Awesome setup and great explanation..... HELP ME though !!!! i did this set up... but used the frsky R- XSR mini sbus receiver and set it up as you did !!!!! BUT im new to "INAV" and everything works ... but im cant get any receiver or servo movement.... what am i missing ????? receiver was bound and i do have a green steady light..... motor spins up in the motors tab,... but no receiver signal
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 лет назад
James Donahue Assuming you have the correct Rx type selected on inav (sbus), it might be due to the R-XSR outputting a inverted sbus signal. You could try either using the CLI code serialrx_inverted=on/off, or you can use the uninverted SBUS pad on the R-XSR. Both of those methods are worth a try
@jamesdonahue5299
@jamesdonahue5299 6 лет назад
Thank you Soooooo much for responding. i didnt think of that.. i will try it ... dumb question for ya !!!! the EFXtra came with a y connector on the ailerons !!! i unpluged it and went with the pin set up you did !!!! AND... does the channel mapping matter in the TX ie. RETA or AETR etc.....cuz in INAV the mapping only show AETR at the top.... but no 1234 after, like it always did... is this norm ?????
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 лет назад
James Donahue All that matters is that the channel map on inav matches the channel map on your radio. On inav it should appear as taer5678 or aetr5678 etc
@jamesdonahue5299
@jamesdonahue5299 6 лет назад
the only thing that comes up on my receiver tab at the top is the mapping... no numbers 1234 or 5678...... i have the mapping matched Tx and Rx to AETR..... but im not getting the numbers !!!!!!! WTH
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 лет назад
James Donahue Huh, ok, that's weird. That probably means either the port has been set incorrectly or the Rx type is incorrect. Have you defo assigned a port?
