I live in New Jersey and I'm from New York City and honestly if the cops are looking at things in a place like Newark I think it's awesome sign of security especially by a counterterrorism team..... For everyone talking about amendments like they wrote the declaration of an independence because they went to college would actually be dangerous if they had brains

The cops violated the boater’s 4th Amendment Rights. They need probable cause to ID you, this isn’t Nazi Germany. Furthermore, the Supreme Court has already ruled that video taping in public is not a crime. It’s a protected constitutional activity under the First Amendment. If you don’t exercise your rights you will lose them like this guy and be violated.
@FLyAgaric421
@FLyAgaric421 3 месяца назад
I agree with your sentiment.. but you’re wrong. Police don’t need probable cause to ask you a question.. “You don’t happen to have ID do you?” He voluntarily handed it over. You have a lot of studying to do..
@quill6211
@quill6211 2 месяца назад
Actually the context wasn’t asking. Did you not watch the video?You don’t happen to have any ID on you because I want to see it is the proper context. The boater should have known his Civil Rights and told the cop to kick rocks.

To be fair, the rivers around here have come a LONG way. Most of that brown is from silt. I've canoed in the nearby Hackensack River. When the tide goes down, you toss in a rock and it goes PLOP! in that silty mud/muck. The storm drains from streets are the mian source of any pollution. 11:44 It is incomprehensible to me why the infrastructure everywhere in the USA is being allowed to rust away. When I watch videos like this, I get the impression that there isn't a single older steel bridge that doesn't need a new coat of paint since years. Coating is the be-all and end-all for steel structures. In my country, painters start all over again when they're finished, they don't even wait for a condition like we see here. Maybe someone can explain it to me?

Great video. Newark is not known as a recreational area so you get attention. After 9-11 the police are aware of people filming bridges and buildings . I used to boat in the passaic River years ago. It's best to time the trip with the tides for an easier trip. I see Red Bull arena and the old Clark Thread factory. Yes, it is a fascinating area but few folks are on the water. Thanks for the video trip. Good times!

I'm so thrilled you did this! It is fabulous to see the Passaic River from the river! There needs to be more people with more direct access. Like you I stress SAFTY! The Passaic can be treacherous in the spring, after serious rain fall, and at the mouth to the Hudson. It is SO refreshing to see the authorities have done so much to clean this body of water up. Now we get to see just how ugly those bridges are! We need to work on that too. Upstream around The Citys of Passaic and Clifton there is a weir or man made fall. Even further upstream there is the Passaic Falls in the City of Paterson. This waterway belongs to US, let us take care of it and use it with pride. When they ask for "your ID" they want to run you for warrants. They already don't like you and want to arrest you and seize your boat. The "courtesy" is just a ruse police are taught to use. Best initial response should be "with all do respect, why do you want to run me for warrants?" At least that brings some degree of honesty into the situation where the officer's then know you are not just another ignorant sheep and they generally will treat you with more honesty and genuine respect. Also, when they run your ID, they STILL DO NOT KNOW YOU, they just know you have no warrants so they can't have as much fun with you.

I grew up in bayonne NJ which the Passaic river eventually empties out into Newark bay which then goes around bayonne and out into the Atlantic ocean /lower new york harbor. I was a police officer in the town across from newark/Belleville along the passaic river and it Is one of the most dangerous rivers to go in. I was a certified diver and even I had trouble recovering bodied from people who woukd jump into the river thinking they could swim it,but some times the current is so strong near the bridge tresstles it used to spin our police boats around in circles near the bridge supports were. The most dangerous part of the river is near the old newest railroad bridge. The water actually pulls you under. The man in the video is going the correct way if you ever fell in accidentally. The only people who are usually on the river are the high-school crew teams. Whats so dangerous is the ground is made up of thick muck, that is impossible to walk on. Just south of where he was talking to the guy in Harrison. That old broken railroad bridge is EXTREMELY dangerous. Just everyone be careful.

@AJerseyJohnnyEntertainment
@AJerseyJohnnyEntertainment 26 дней назад
@OutDehFamily no, I'm a retired police officer from kearny. Which was east of where you were by Harrison. I didn't say my opinion was you would drown wearing a life jacket. It's a fact that just further down where you were filming, (especially during the winter months) people who jump into that river almost always die. One guy jumped in on a Day like the beautiful one you had today, and he got about 10 feet from the shore and realized he was in serious trouble. Luckily, those annoying conrail cops people are bashing were there to throw him a safety jacket and line to save him. (I've never seen conrail police working anywhere but south kearny, maybe those were Harrison or Belleville police that stopped you in the video? Your wearing a life jacket, which is smart, and I know this isn't your first river ride so your not going to panic at the tug of the undercurrent near the bridge supports. Unfortunately, in the winter, unless we saw the person go Into the water, they were gone in minutes. From the cold, or drowning and the current would hold it under the bridges usually. I mean forget small boats, the pretty large state police boats that patrol newark bay, poet Elizabeth where fighting just to stop spinning in circles which was making the divers lives impossible as you can imagine. I kept thinking you were gonna take the river all the way down and around south kearny where the passaic and the Hackensack rivers flow into Newark bay. Now newark bay Is awesome for jetskis and all types of water craft. The water is calmer, cleaner, you just need to stay out of the shipping lane, which i think is 80feet deep now? Possibly more. A decent swimmer could swim across newark bay. )not even joking. As kids we swam across right to port Elizabeth. The passaic river is much more dangerous then newark bay is. Most of the bay you can just stand up, or is between 8-12feet. Except where the army core of engineers blast it every couple of years to keep the shipping lane depth super deep. It's so deep, they had to raise the bayonne bridge because the new super tanker cargo ships couldn't pass under it anymore. I know I went off topic brother , I'm just letting people know what's around them that they might not be aware of. (As far as nature) There are huge blueish, snappers, flounder, giant eels, some sharks all in the bay, the closer you get to the rivers obviously you have all your brackish typed of species. Giant Carp fill the Meadowlands. Probably the only dangerous thing I could think of is sometimes a mother sea lion will come onto shore with her pups in Lower bayonne. They are the size of a car, and not friendly so do not approach them at all! Sorry for the long post brother but I like your channel. Keep doing what your doing. I'd advise people who are going to go out on the open water to atleast familiar themselves will laws of the water. So everyone comes home safe and happy. This video was great. I wish you went into the Meadowlands but if you did that you'd need a 30 minute ride back to your car. Lol

12:00 "You don't happen to have ID on you by any chance?" is the question YOU should be asking to the complete stranger who says "we work for an agency". What agency? They don't even know if he's not allowed to be there. Why would you thank these identity thieves? They're probably afraid of you taking pictures of the bridge and alerting authorities to disrepair from corporate neglect.

It's actually funny reading all these comments, you all need to learn that yes the constitution does protect your rights but at the same time they do have a job to do. Whether you think its right or wrong, there job is to protect infrastructure whether or not it seems like it is important to you or not. Clearly there was an FBI building right near it and then you have someone on the river taking pictures of that along with rail bridges that is a legitimate concern whether or not he was doing anything wrong. It's actually funny because all of you sitting here going, I wouldn't have gave it them and I would of just told them to fuck off or whatever is pretty funny. What happens when something serious happens and then your the first people going, well why wasn't anything done to protect our country and stop people like that from doing what they did. Allow the police to do their damn job what are you hiding that your afraid to just give your ID to them. You can't be arrested for doing nothing clearly so unless you know something that they don't that would be your only reason to not give it to them. Yes, he had the right to say I am not doing anything just making a youtube video and politely denied giving them his ID. Why make it to that point of making it an issue, then putting yourself in more of an issue? That is right there where the problem begins when people feel like they are just going to deny do everything the police tell you to do. Follow their instructions and record everything then use it against them in court if they were wrong or that. Let your lawyer handle the situation, stop thinking that your rights are always being violated for them doing their job and protecting us and the country, because I know as well as a ton of other people that you would be the first people crying saying the police didnt do anything to stop this from happening and AMERICA and fly our flags all over our trucks and talk about this and that, when your the first ones crying about the police doing their job. If had been in an area that didn't have rail bridges, and FBI buildings and that and they came and started to harass you then fine yes i would agree 100% that now your just harassing but what they were doing was not harassing or anything they simply asked for the ID to just verify who he is and make sure if something does happen then they know who the guy is.

Your wrong, law enforcement is given the right by the city officials who employ them. Photography is free speech and you have the right to refuse their questions, but at the same time law enforcement has the right to question anyone. It’s called common law right of inquiry.

Wonderful video! It shows a part of the city that people never see. It’s too bad you had to haul your kayak over that locked gate. I’m sure more people would kayak that same area off that great park and floating dock if the access gate was open like it’s supposed to be.

hi there, I've come to realize: 1-this area of the passaic is toxic and not safe for any regular contact/exposure 2- folks in the general area don;t have access to boats/storage 3- many can;t swim! , But my goal is to get more people on the waterways in NJ. Its an opportunity for sure. thanks for your great comment

Me, my brother and friends often canoed and rafted on the Hackensack River in the 80's. Our raft was not quite a zodiac, but did have both an electric and gas motor. Always had a cooler with 'refreshments' 😉 This took me back to the tremendous fun we had! We would launch in Little Ferry and went as far as Newark Bay.

I am an avid kayaker among other things. I recently did the Camden Water Trail which starts I'm Cherry Hill NJ snakes all the way through Camden (equally if nit more dangerous than Newark) and ends on the Delaware River with a route around Petty Island. This is right by the Ben Franklin Bridge which goes from center city Philadelphia to downtown Camden by Rutgers and Rowan Camden College Campuses. It's a little interesting going under one particular bridge in camden where there's a homeless encampment. Scary....actually it was scary since someone started throwing rocks at me. But I would recommend in a group.

Nice video! Anytime on a river is good! I live on the Wood River River in RI. I go out 3-4 times a week for a paddle. There are several blue herons and a bald eagle on the part of the river I paddle, beautiful birds! Wear ear buds, if cops ever call out to me I just pretend I don't hear them and keep paddling.

with all of the crime that goes on in Newark on a daily basis they deem it necessary to hassle a guy in a kayak paddling around. I wouldnt have even approached them, should have kept to the middle of the river and if it was that pressing for them then they would've had to come out and meet me on the water. P.S. never volunteer any information to authorities, answer only questions that are asked.

When I was a kid, 60 years ago I lived right there and used to play along the banks of the river. I lived right up the street from where the storm water enters the river. Sure does look different. A lot of things are gone forever. I remember playing on the seesaws and the swings at Riverbank Park and going to the Ironbound Red Shield Boys and Girls Club. St Al's Church is still there but the school is gone. The Dairy Queen is gone and well as Park Stand Hotdogs. Thanks for the videos.
