Another experiment in paper based philosophies. This time, an addition to my "rectangular to-do list.

I started using boxes for tasks and project breakdowns last year. It really helped me visually as I have mild dyslexia so allows me to quickly see what has been part done, done and not at all. I just use a mild liner, it is neat and easy, I done like crossing out large sections as it look,s do messy and makes it hard to look back on important notes.

I started by marking completed tasks by simply closing the box (adding the fourth side), but have moved to using a large X (from corner to corner) in red (I carry a Lamy multi pen) of the box. That simple line still allows me to easily read the text of the task, but the scribbling looks fun too!

Hi neil, i watched this video when you first posted it and i thought i was an adamant vertical to do list person. However, just today, i decided to try your box technique. But no ruled boxes, simply just a quick scribbled note and then boxing that note freehand. Guess what, i love it!! So now i have a page to just scribble down any thought, boxing it so its visual, and i can just cross it off when done or no longer needed. So, many thanks again!

Thank you for the follow up! I like this idea very much, I just drafted out today’s list in this method and it has a very similar visual impact without the legibility loss (I also like that I can keep with my single pen system still, cuts down on what I need to carry in my pocket while I’m out and about). 😊

The darkened outline makes it look more like priority tasks instead of finished ones to me 😂 it’s the same reason why I wouldn’t use a highlighter because it makes me think important instead of complete. I would just make a neat x over the box to say it is complete but still be able to read the text under the x lines… better than scribbling over but you do lose the satisfaction of scribbling!

One cannot dismiss the satisfaction of scribbling, for sure! Thanks for your input on this issue.

I cant seem to find those Filofax notebooks anywhere for sale. I love those sizes.

They don't come up for sale very often unfortunately. Which is a shame, because they are so useful.

You are using way more ink than simply ticking/croasing a bullet out.

That's a fair point.
