An inexpensive filofax but a good addition to my collection of EDC binders. I will periodically be using this, and letting you know how it shapes up.

@@Flatability between the Stratford mini and Finchley mini , which one do you think is best, I heard the flatability of stratford is out of the box, also which is “more rarer” between the 2.., is it worth paying 60+pound for any of these.. waiting for your valuable review thanks ( also if u have any suggestions for other mini Filofaxes I would be glad to listen ) Ps-much thanks to you for solving my earlier doubt , I bought the filofax 2CLF 😊👍🏽

Sadly, I haven't reviewed either of these models. But, if you are looking for a mini sized binder with a full width back pocket, I'd take a look at the Portland model, which has superior leather in my opinion.

I bought it for 2euro, it had massive flaking, damage all over the place, messed up rubber-band, overstretched penloop. I thought it was a fake, how could original filofax be so unreliable. I just wanted to test the pocket rings. I removed the rings and fixed it with two small screws on some random A6 small cover so it works fine. When I look in this video I think it was probably real one, the inserts had good paper and the look ,and the damage pattern is very similar.. 15-20euro is not a small amount, for a little more you could buy a used leather filofax which could last decades.

This is an 9nteresting point, bust we must always recognise that a top quality binder, made of the finest materials, by English workers 40 years ago for perhaps £250, would be over £600 in today's money. We cannot expect that much of a Domino, made of the cheapest materials, the cheapest rings, and possibly by the some of the cheapest labour globally. 15-20 Euros is a very good price for those who are prepared to accept the inevitable rapid cosmetic deterioration.

FLB Group, who own the Filofax brand, are seeing their turnover fall year on year, with profits of only 343k on turnover of 19m for 2021. So, not much profit at all. I guess that the factory gate price is perhaps just a few dollars, but every part of the supply chain, from the wages of the factory workers to the electricity bill at the warehouse in Dalkeith, needs to be paid for somehow.

09:06 I am really surprised the Mini Executive says 'Deluxe leather' when it's clear that at least some of the inside is a faux leather. Do you know if they do this a lot?
@Flatability
@Flatability Месяц назад
This seems to be a common problem with the "Guildford" model, in all sizes. I also have a "mini Executive" model that also suffers in this way. I suspect that this may be the reason why these models were only produced for a short period. I think the "inside' is indeed leather, but so thin that they would have been better of leaving the bare fabric on show, rather than, what many call, "spray on" leather.

I know the leather flakes off but so does the vinyl. I have a personal size and it's starting to flake. My Lyndhurst is also having the flaking interior leather issue. It was fine a couple of months ago then suddenly it's showing cracked leather all along the edge of the rings.😢

Luckily I see these filofaxes predominantly as working tools. But Of course I would prefer it if they didn't peel.

@@Flatability is there any method of preventing it that you are aware of?
@Flatability
@Flatability 2 месяца назад
It's an interesting dilemma. I own an A4 Lyndhurst myself and, as yet, my leather hasn't yet started cracking, even after 20 years of heavy use, but I think what I will do, if it did stop cracking is to use some leather conditioner, to at least slow down the deterioration. Inevitably, the problem, as I see it, is that the interior leather is actually a very very clean surface layer and has no structure or strength. It is just a cosmetic veneer glued onto a man-made substrate. As you may know, I have experienced this problem with several filofax models, and I have just decided to put up with it, because some of those models have such an excellent form factor that I am prepared to put up with the peeling leather, because I use them as working tools. However, it is annoying, and it is something that I think Filofax should have anticipated, through experimentation. It's a good question, and I might discuss this in the future podcast. So thank you for raising it.

@@helloashilliNot that I’m aware of, other than perhaps Filofax deciding to avoid this type of construction in the future. But I guess that would increase prices.

@@Flatability I think you are right about the leather conditioner. I recently bought a 2nd hand binder that I have not shown on my channel and the ring protector flaps seem to be constructed in a similar manner. One side is a higher quality leather tht is the same as the cover and the reverse side is a lower quality that is bonded to a substrate. In this case it looks like some sort of cloth. The lower quality leather is degrading and peeling/flaking but it also felt very sticky. I cleaned it but the stickiness did not go away until I used leather conditioner on it and it also stopped the flaking. I'll probably make a video trying this solution on my Lyndhurst to see what comes of it.
