The dealbreaker for me with moleskine is the poor paper quality. I write exclusively with fountain pens and I'm not going to risk buying a moleskin for the 1-in-100 chance that I get one of the good-paper ones. I really like those little Rettacy A6 notebooks (the ones with the pen loop on the spine that you showed at 7:44). I bought those after seeing your review of them and was really impressed. In general, I don't need repositional pages in my pocket notebook, because my notes aren't intended to stay in there solely. Notes I need to keep for more than a day will get transferred into my planner, journal or commonplace book. Now, my commonplace book is where repositional pages REALLY shines - because notes in here are stored by topic, not by date.

Thanks for your detailed feedback. I appreciate that. Thank you also for your feedback about Rettacy notebooks. They certainly work for me.

I used Moleskine small sketchbooks for 20 years and it was when I was photo copying the best drawings from each of the 8 or 9 books to make a 'best off' collection of drawings to store in a Filofax when the benefits of moving my sketching into a Filofax dawned - I can have any kind of paper in a Filofax 'sketchbook', and when I do duff drawings I can just click the rings and it's gone. A major benefit is I can choose whether to store my sketches in a narrow binder with small rings, or bulk up to a 30mm binder. Or put categories of drawings together in a subject binder (portraits for instance. It becomes endlessly variable. Just like your choice of what to draw ..

Fountain pen - a show stopper for me regarding all things Moleskine. I have been a die hard user for years - Weekly calendars in Pocket and L format.. The paper went from ok to just bad. I love the pocket-ability which with ring planners is not that easy but the paper is just no good. And there is no excuse to it. Leuchtrum2017 took the spotlight just a bit too easy. Moleskine was the benchmark with its heritage of famous users like Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Ernest HemingwayVan Gogh. Not anymore except - for watercolour its still very popular.

I recently purchased a Filofax refillable A5 notebook and a hole punch to make my own pages. It works well and of course, the pages can be repositioned without traditional rings.

Thank you for another video. You got me into mini binders and I just bought my second 8mm rings a couple of weeks ago. They are not Filofax brand but do have Krause rings. 😁

Krause rings? Sounds interesting 👍

Which ones did you get? I really want to try an A6 sized one. Thank you

I would re-title your video to "how to ringbinder instead? Repositionsl pages versus one-off notebooks" You converted me more than a year ago. I know own more than 30 ringbinders, a few minis and mostly A6 size ones. It is great fun to hunt for bargain used ringbinders that are much better than new Filofaxes anyway. Old Filofaxes, great Org-Verlag (German, Minis and A6) metric Krause rings, impressive "Succes" (big Dutch brand, A6 size with imperial rings), similarly TeBe (small German luxury brand, Imperial Krause small rings, superb A7 Mini that is a tiny bit smaller than a Plotter Mini 5), Eastpak Pocket that fits A6, Tempus (German, A6, imperial compatible) Of course these brands offer other and larger sizes as well, i just listed some of the ones I got.

This makes me want to use this ring system. What’s a good A6 alternative to the Filofax? Another alternative to the plotter as well? Good video. Thank you

Happy to see you in the new studio ☺ I agree with you completely. I only use bound notebooks for journaling, for everything else a binder is so much better just because you can remove and reposition its contents. I also like the idea of being able to use a binder over a long period of time, and having it change with use and wear. You don't get that with a notebook as you'll just replace it when you've filled it.

Your point about not getting to see a notebook change with wear is a great one. I never thought about that. Thanks about the new studio. I'm going to make a "behind the scenes" video for channel members as soon as I can.
