I remember very well when slaves and masters came out. The album is very good. I also saw them live, they opened up with Burn.

Joe Lynn Turner with Ritchie Blackmore on their 2nd Rainbow Tour in UK ( Lita Ford support) was the most magical brilliant timeless of tours. Joe was now rollin on the scene, still finding his newer rock skills onstage, but had learned so much already from the very first tour that when these guys played together woah, it was just brilliant. Anyone who saw that tour never forgot. And that sealed the deal for him to join DP later on. 💜💜💜

I met Joe on the Long Island Railroad one time. Sat across from him and he talked to me the entire time. He had his notebook with the lyrics for Blackfoot’s Train Train. Said he was doing an appearance with a local band. Great guy, told me stories about Ritchie and Yngwie. Will never forget that.

I listened to this album once and never again. It is a weak effort, like an inferior Rainbow effort rather than Deep Purple. Very generic US 'hard' rock of the time.

If only Joe’s cassette’s of his TBRO era vocals could get an official release. Ritchie of course has/had an archive of demos he recorded in Deep Purple. To paraphrase David Coverdale,some of these and ‘were good enough to go straight onto the album’. David and Ritchie recorded a demo of ‘Solder Of Fortune’..

First song I ever heard rainbow 🌈 did with JLT singing was “Jealous Lover” which got me hooked, never found that song on any album but bought Straight Between the Eyes” record and still my favorite rainbow album to this day

As far as I recall it was a B-side of a single. First time I saw it on vinyl was „Finyl vinyl“.

BLACKMORE likes JOE'S way of songwriting and the way his voice sounds that is why he enjoys anything by JOE but they were left alone during the SLAVES AND MASTERS YEARS in the song creation part. LORD, PAICE and GLOVER added little, that is why I think only HALF of that album is good. there are some tracks which are fantastic but some others were not at the same Level, JOE should have joined FOREIGNER in those days.

Yeah from the early Mtv videos I expected he would be soft spoken and effeminate...and kinda weird to be honest. First heard him talk just last year. Funny, he's the complete opposite of those early impressions. More New York City cop. than fey flower arranger.

Bad luck. Slaves was a much better album. Joe with Ritchie was by far the most successful commercial partnership.

Afraid I never liked it. Paicey and Lord sounded so bored on it, might have been a drum machine rather one of the best drummers of all-time.

@@morrisanderson3180 Should have called himself Ian Price. Would have saved a lot of neighborhood arguments about the right way to say Paice. Same with Carmine 'n Vinny Appice. They should have gone with Ahpissy and the kids would have gotten it right.

@@bruffie As rock guitarplayer and singer myself I imagine Ritchie Blackmore was liking the American $$$$ with Joe Lynn Turner when Rainbow was touring to promote Straight Between The Eyes and playing sold out arenas. Including my local arena the unforgettable New Haven Coliseum (gone now). It was a great show.
