The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral was a 30-second shootout between lawmen and members of a loosely organized group of outlaws called the Cowboys that took place at about 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 1881, in Tombstone, Arizona Territory. It is generally regarded as the most famous shootout in the history of the American Wild West. The gunfight was the result of a long-simmering feud, with Cowboys Billy Claiborne, Ike and Billy Clanton, and Tom and Frank McLaury on one side and town Marshal Virgil Earp, Special Policeman Morgan Earp, Special Policeman Wyatt Earp, and temporary policeman Doc Holliday on the other side. Billy Clanton and both McLaury brothers were killed. Ike Clanton, Billy Claiborne, and Wes Fuller ran from the fight. Virgil, Morgan, and Doc Holliday were wounded, but Wyatt Earp was unharmed. Wyatt is often erroneously regarded as the central figure in the shootout, although his brother Virgil was Tombstone city marshal and deputy U.S. marshal that day and had far more experience as a sheriff, constable, marshal, and soldier in combat.[1]
The shootout has come to represent a period of the American Old West when the frontier was virtually an open range for outlaws, largely unopposed by law enforcement officers who were spread thin over vast territories. It was not well known to the American public until 1931, when Stuart Lake published the initially well-received biography Wyatt Earp: Frontier Marshal two years after Earp's death.[2] The book was the basis for the 1946 film My Darling Clementine, directed by John Ford,[2] and the 1957 film Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, after which the shootout became known by that name. Since then, the conflict has been portrayed with varying degrees of accuracy in numerous Western films and books, and has become an archetype for much of the popular imagery associated with the Old West.
Despite its name, the gunfight did not take place within or next to the O.K. Corral, which fronted Allen Street and had a rear entrance lined with horse stalls on Fremont Street. The shootout actually took place in a narrow lot on the side of C. S. Fly's Photographic Studio on Fremont Street, six doors west of the O.K. Corral's rear entrance. Some members of the two opposing parties were initially only about 6 feet (1.8 m) apart. About 30 shots were fired in 30 seconds.[3] Ike Clanton subsequently filed murder charges against the Earps and Doc Holliday. After a 30-day preliminary hearing and a brief stint in jail, the lawmen were shown to have acted within the law.
The gunfight was not the end of the conflict. On December 28, 1881, Virgil Earp was ambushed and maimed in a murder attempt by the Cowboys. On March 18, 1882, a Cowboy fired from a dark alley through the glass door of a Campbell & Hatch's saloon and billiard parlor, killing Morgan Earp. The suspects in both incidents furnished alibis supplied by other Cowboys and were not indicted. Wyatt Earp, newly appointed as Deputy U.S. Marshal in Cochise County, then took matters into his own hands in a personal vendetta. He was pursued by county sheriff Johnny Behan, who had received a warrant from Tucson for Wyatt's shooting of Frank Stilwell.

That was an interesting time in history for sure. Sometimes the gunfights weren't as glamorous as they appear in the movies. I can't remember if I ever told you or not (I'm old you know), but my Great Grandfather died in a gunfight. Shot in the groin by a shotgun. It took him 3 days to die. He was a law enforcement officer. He was outgunned, so he deputized a couple of guys and after the smoke cleared, he was the only person who got shot. That was in Oklahoma. When my grandmother was born, Oklahoma was still Indian Territory. That side of my family has some pretty interesting history around the last of the 1800s and the start of the 1900s.

Lol, you and I both 😂 (getting old 😂). No, you haven’t and that’s quite a story! I had no idea your family goes that far back... Quite fascinating and I hope you have some mementos from your grandparents... You are full of interesting stories!

@@SashaDeKasha I have tons of memories of my grandparents :) I starting researching my genealogy about 40 years ago....before computers. I even have copies of the newspaper reports of my great grandfather's last 3 days. We visited his oldest son's daughter when she was 96, and she told me so many stories. This will be a long one, but I've got to tell you. After my gr. grandfather died, the older children found jobs if they could. When one of the older boys was leaving for work, his nephew was playing with some cars in the dirt. Clifford drug his foot through the dirt where his nephew was playing with cars. His nephew said "you son of a bitch." My great grandmother was there, and she said "honey, you shouldn't say that because you are calling grandma a bitch." Next day same thing happened. The boy said "you son of a bitch." Then he remembered what his grandma said and added, "and grandma's the son and you're the bitch."

Nature's Cool lol 🤣🤣🤣 that’s too funny 😂 Isn’t it amazing the things she remembered at 96!!! I like when my mom tells me stories from when she was a kid! My mom’s uncle (her dad’s brother), never returned from WWII, and I love listening to the stories about how my gr. grandpa went on a journey to look for him/his body and how the family lived... his wife was pregnant when he left and my mom became really close with her cousin as he had no dad... My sister did some research, and we now believe he died of his wounds in a hospital in Serbia and was buried there...

Sasha my great uncle Orlando Thompson... ran a mule train from San Bernardino valley through Tombstone to Tucson on route he delivered a grand-piano to The Birdcage Theatre in Tombstone in 1881.... its still there today.... strange feeling when i go into the Birdcage and stand in front of that piano i get shivers...to think a ancestor of mine actually walked in that Theatre and saw Wyatt Earp.... Sasha you filmed that with so much professionalism well done ... i live close to Tombstone its sad but its only a theme park tourist trap now.... the only building i associate with 1881 is the Birdcage theatre ... Sasha inside the birdcage theatre is a grand-piano.. My great uncle Oranldo Poppitt- Thompson delivered the said piano to the birdcage he operated a mule train freight. haulage company in San Bernardino his route was through Tombstone to Tucson .... every/day correspondence was sent to my grandfather up in Utah.. from his brother Orlando... i have those letters {{ they really make for interesting reading ... how the boomtowns really were .not Hollywood's version Tombstone in the 1880s was in two halves the residential part were town folk lived... then there was the red light district..... saloons gambling den and brothels.... tombstone was a thriving town after silver was discovered.... people came from all over the world to seek their fortune ..... little ghettos sprang up Chinese.. set up laundrettes.. restaurants.. Jewish clothiers tailors.. Swedish food parlours German food stores general stores ran the European way... .and they had Wyatt Earp.... bad guy good guy.. how can we ever know??? but what i do know is my grandfather and Orlando his brother met up with Wyatt Earp and his wife Josie Marcus ... in Nome Alaska all three had a share partnership in a saloon called the Dexter on main street.. Nome next to the Warwick hotel in have photos of all three standing outside the Dexter... late 1890s... during the Klondike gold rush.....Okay Sasha seeya now take care... Ed AZ

I do love reenactments but what's with all the sound effects in this one, it's meant to be living history and when they play some modern day music in the background it takes you away from back then and brings you back to the present day and then the reenactment is ruined
