I’m not a paracordist. Never have been. Never planning to be. And yet I’m here watching the video like “wow that’s such a good point”

I've ended up with several keychains while trying to figure out how much cord to use for bracelets. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The trick I taught myself for making sure the loop is the proper size for the closer knot (on a snake knot bracelet, since I’m a total beginner) is to tie the first knot of the bracelet to create the loop. Then I tie a dummy closer knot at the bottom to test out how it fits through the loop, and adjust the loop until it’s just right. Once satisfied, I undo the dummy closer knot and complete the bracelet, then re-tie the actual closer knot at the end to finish it off.

I have found the easiest way to avoid the buckle problem is to snap them together into mated pairs before storing them, and only taking them apart when you’re starting that bracelet.

A lot of them, but the sizing part is the one that I am struggling more. I’ve been in this hobby/job two weeks but I love it. Thanks for all the tutorials are helping to get this fast.

I've had the buckle upside down twice on the same project. That was a learning experience. Now I doublecheck that and I also started using knot/loop closures.

In order to avoid the loop size problem, I begin weaving on that end of the project and adjust early. I also prefer a slightly larger loop and use a brass plumbing collet as a sliding keeper bead. They patina quite nicely after a while.

As a beginner I thought that I could just "wing it" for the length, not to waste any paracord. Now I mesure!I ALWAYS MESURE AND DONT BE CHEAP on giving extra length. I learned that in macrame too lol.

When melting the end of para cord😀 to lock it, don’t use a torch to burn the cord but heat the tip of an old knife and use that to melt the cord. It leaves a nice finish and doesn’t blacken the cord as much!

Great info. I've made a few of these. Also putting the dominant color on wrong side of 2-color bracelet. Easy to catch after made 3-4 loops.

Re: #2, my rule of thumb is leaving a length equal to the cord's width. When i melt that and squish it down, it makes a nice-sized stopper.

When doing a thick bracelet I normally place my finger under the the core strands around my wrist and compensate that way and it works for me

I’ve been weaving paracord for about a week now, have done four projects, and... have basically made most of these mistakes. XD The cobra weave, now I know how to do it right, the running out of paracord - grr! XD I never accidentally used two sides of the same buckle, but that sounds incredibly frustrating!!! Ooof. It’s very encouraging and heartening to hear, though. I commiserate! And now I know! The one thing that I was stuck on the most was how long to cut off the excess at the end - mine kept being too long or coming undone, or too short it slipped back and came undone, so eventually I just gave up and melted together a bunch on the underside with my tuck-ins. LOL. (If it keeps sticking out and therefore coming apart, JUST MELT IT ALL TOGETHER is what I’d come to, MAKE IT ALL BLACK and then covering it with something decorative). It worked, lmao. But it’s funny to see how we all make similar mistakes on our own and somehow we figure out our own ways to make it work. XD And get better!

i can safely say that braiding 4 strings at the same time definitely makes me make mistakes even to this day. also cobra knots were so infuriating before i managed to realize on my own that they were wrong and came up with my own system for them to not get crossed. great tutorial!

Hi Weaver! That problem with the sizing for the loops, you solved that in another video: you made the loop just a little long, and then you put a cinching ranger bead on there to allow Easy donning and removal of the bracelet, as well as securing it. I really liked that idea. It made for a really nice looking bracelet.

I just started with paracording and my tip for the knot through the loop 2:58 is to have some excess Paracord and making a separate knot so you can use it to see if the loop is wide or tight enough for the knot to fit through

good video, allows people to see your humble side and to know everyone makes mistakes. I've definitely made a few of these, mostly the small wrist issue as Ive done 3-4 now that are just too small for me. thankfully they fit my son and/or wife so at least it wasnt a waste of time and it gives me more practice. funny thing... my very first weave was a rifle sling done with the "Covenant Oath" weave from para planet and it came out perfect ! I cant seem to get the crusader weave though, neither the basic or the hardcore. but Ill keep at it and will eventually master those weaves/knots !!

As a true beginner I did the 'too short bracelet' error just couple of days ago with a bracelet which had buckles. I solved by cutting out the buckles and make it adjustable. It's a bit of a Frenkestein now but I had to learn how to join 2 pieces of paracord in order to transform it, which is great because it's good to build up some new knowledge over an error and at the end you feel that you didn't really lose your time because of the error

It was a frustrating journey for me at first when learning to tie the cobra knot. I did in fact tie an entire project wrong a few times .

After watching this, I realized I was not a beginner Paracordist, but had some good chuckles. Definitely helpful though

Great video, thank you. One problem I have is ensuring that the buckle ends are the correct way up when starting. I know it sounds very basic, but when I'm trying to get the buckles attached to the cord, I have, once or twice, got one end the wrong way up!

A good thing I discovered while making bracelets. Before cutting and melting your piece, make sure it looks like you've planned, and it fits around whoever's wrist it's made for.

Yes I have ended up with two of the same buckle ends. As yourself, I also vowed not to make that mistake again. Melting ends together to cinch, yup did one as well. But the more you do better one gets...

I’ve made the mistake of not compensating for the thickness of a bracelet ONCE... I was so furious with it because it was so dang hard to make that there was no way I could fix it... I had to remake it with an extra foot of each cord color I was using... I normally make my bracelets 8 - 8 1/2 inches on a jig depending on what size buckles I am using. A simple half inch buckle for a single cow's hitch will get me about 7 inches of weaving. If I am making a very thick bracelet and use either a 7/8 inch or a full inch buckle, I will lengthen out to 9 - 9.5 inches on the jig to compensate for the thickness. It also depends on the type of cord you are using. I a, really starting to like the 325 cord so that the bracelets are no only slimmer, but not as wide either....

I like bracelets like those, specially with those inticate designs 😍. Unfortunately, nowhere near here to buy from or choose from 😭

Maan, I've made the length mistake so many times. By the way, Tim, what do you think of dying inner strands black before melting the ends? It gets rid of that white dot in the center. Also, your videos are very nice to watch and you're such a man! Ruined several bracelets just to show us the mistakes

Just a tip on when I have lots off small off cuts...I am an archer so with the bits left over (from no. 1 using a bit more than needed to make sure you don't run out). I make Finger Slings for bows, and if you pull out the cores you can use the outer string as String Silencers on a bow.

Around the 1 minute mark you use grey and maroon cord to weave around a green cord, could you tell me what type of pattern that is please and if you have a tutorial for it?

You mentioned at the end about using both male or both female clasp ends. You forgot to mention making sure both sides of the clasp are either face-up or face-down. More than once, I have attached one side wrong so the clasp ends won’t meet unless you twist the entire work. Every bit as frustrating!!

I like to use a sharp-point soldering iron to melt the ends. You can shape the molten nylon, and melt it as much or little as desired.

Question: what are the two colors you use to weave at 1:08 in the video? What diameter are they, and where can I get them? They look like some kind of dark gray and burgundy. Thanks! Your video is wonderful and extremely helpful.

What torch and punch are you using? And that board?

Unpopular opinion but I don’t like flattening the melted ends like show in mistake number 2. I prefer letting it mushroom out as it melts so it’s nice and rounded. Looks better imo and doesn’t risk having any sharpish uncomfortable edges.

for the bracelet sizing i recommend trying the bracelet before actually melting or finishing the working ends if the size wont fit i usually just unravel everything then re-measure

For a single cobra braid, I've found that adding 1.5" to the length of your wrist size will give a you a good braid fit and approximately 1' of cord equals 1" of cobra braid.

I've not had the double male or female problem, but I have found out much to late that one end of the buckle was upside down

Have you ever done a tutorial on making the weaving bar (Used in this video)?? I've gone a huge step farther with mine. I use an artists easel, the 3 legged kind that folds up. On the wooden bars that hold the artwork, I put some screw-in eyelets with a male buckle on one side, female on the other on one row, then a female, then male on the other row. This way, I can put the male part of the buckle on one side and the female part above it. So, basically, there's a male on the top row and a female on the top row, then on the bottom, there's a female on that row and a male on that row as well. Use the adjustable bar (the top one I think it is) and move it up or down to where the length of the bracelet needs to be. With this gizmo, I can make paracord bracelets in about 5 minutes depending on the knot I want to use. The easel also has a nice drawer where you can store all your buckets, clips, etc. I also have a lanyard I hand on one of the vertical parts that holds my EMT Shears (GREAT for cutting cord) and any other tool I need handy. On one of the horizontal bars, I made a hole that will hold my Bic lighter in place.. The main part of the easel where your artwork would he held has marks on it with dimensions so I can raise or lower the top bar ro rhw right length, clip in the fasteners, and start throwing cord.. One last addition is my spool holder. I use a 1/2" copper pipe holder and screw it into the legs, then slide a piece of copper pipe through them. Drill a small hole and put a 1" or so cotter pin through it to keep the spools from running away. Sorry for the long post, maybe I should have just made a video of it all.

I think the worst of all errors is still the rsss size. by any chance do you have a specific name for your most robust base? I can only get weak.

What is the tool you use for melting, I can see at 1.59 it says micro jet on it but can you give me more information, I need to get a new melting tool my soldering iron method just isn’t easy to get a clean melt and this looks great.

I made a camera strap and I ended up not using enough cord and having to add more on… twice. It ended up coming out okay it wasn’t super noticeable because of the color and it served me well 👌

What is the name of the knot being tied @ 1:09?

I never singe the end down to the side of my bracelets. I use a pair of kelly clamps or a fid to thread the ends under the last two or three stitches on the back. I tighten it with the clamps or needle nose pliers and I singe the end with a little extra room sticking out and flatten it with the clamps. This hides the ends inside the bracelet and it is locked in place with the last few stitches.

Enjoyed the video- years ago i bought a my first bracelet and wore it all the time on vacation- my youngest daughter wanted one- so we were at a flea market on vac- i bought her one and she loved it! It didn’t last one day so we went back to exchange it for another- the vendor said no! I was upset for my daughter and when we got home i left it aside for a while- i not only learned how to tie some i also taught my daughter- i have made a-lot since and have donated and giving a lot away for different reasons! On your video i usually use a foot more of each piece of paracord you list because it is easier to tie knots

Measure three times and cut once. While you are learning, you will NOT get it right so there will be wasted material, even experienced cordists have waste. Especially when learning a new knot or technique, such is the nature of experimentation. Make mistakes. If you worry too much or overthink, you will have a harder time learning. Those scraps from the previous mistakes? Use those to learn that cool new knot. It's no longer wasted material, congratulations you put it to use. If you are learning a new knot or technique, go to the junk paracord at your local store. If I want to learn a new knot, or pattern, Walmart is a great place to go. $4 for 50 ft may sound stupid but you don't have to wait and you can always just use it for practice only. Seriously? I can't count the amount of money I've saved by having the same 200ft of paracord that I practice with. Buy junk until you are confident that you have learned. No shame in it.

Another beginner mistake: Eating while making Paracord bracelets, wallets, coin pouches, etc. 🤦🏼 It stains, you waste time, and you make ALL of these mistakes.

I did not know thay where two different types of paracord materials. Now I understand why thay don't stick together. I prefer the one that's harder and it useasly shines more and the colors are brighter

I'm new at this, and started with doing collars for my dogs. Of course I would forget to put the d-ring in.... and what I've noticed now since my dogs have had theirs on for a while is that the end starts to shift up, so the collar end up with space where some more knots could have been. I hope you understand what I mean and maybe some one could let me know how to stop this? Maybe I need to do my knots tighter? Thanks, enjoyed the video!
